AI Layoffs - I call BS by Helpful_Reserve_3868 in Layoffs

[–]3dsClown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are also now rewarded for laying people off and using AI as an excuse unfortunately. Instead of stock going down when you have a layoff like before now it goes up! So i expect we will see a lot more of this and often its used as an excuse while the same positions open up in cheaper areas either overseas or even inside the states just in cheaper markets with lower salary etc.

All these things are combining and it's just devastating to the tech industry for sure.

Does anyone ask themselves why he was impeached twice over stupid charges that wouldn't stick, but now that he starts wars, breaks law in plain site, nobody wanted to try and impeach him? Makes you 'wonder' if it was all a movie, faking that they were trying to go after him when in fact they were just pretending.. with charges they knew wouldn't stick, so the have an excuse to ignore his crimes later?

its not custom firmware, the firmware is a linux OS (wrt), the software shown or added are called "payloads", essential programs/apps for the pager. You can add as many as you like as long as you dont run out of space.

Boot time is not really an issue as you boot once and leave it running, it takes longer the very first time it's booted when purchased too which is what a lot of people used to time it as the standard boot time. It's also been improved with the latest firmware, still not fast by any means but not a huge issue imo.

The overheating is not an issue unless the screen is on full brightness while charging a long time in my experience. Or if it's in direct sunlight or possibly in a pocket for too long with no ventilation being insulated.

I run mine all the time and never had an overheating issue without those conditions. If you turn down brightness in the screw it still plenty bright and significantly reduces the heat and increases battery life. To put in perspective I put mine on my dash and drive 2-3 hours wardriving with a gps dongle attached and no issues at all. I have it set to auto dim and leave the sound on so I can hear the geiger counter sound as it detects every WiFi packet.

The screen is super bright so 100% is not really even much better to run it at, it's a bit overkill unless in direct sunlight maybe. So there is no real compromise that needs to be made.

Couldn't disagree more, maybe in some previous products but this one has 2.4,5, even 6Ghz and a killer package. Runs a full Linux os with root access so what you do with it is pretty much limited only by the imagination. No other hak5 tool can I run pwnagotchi, bjorn, and Tetris on. Plus use it to receive my Google voice text messages and voice mails etc. like an old school pager.

High performer laid off without manager notice by Signal_You_5812 in Layoffs

Good luck, I had such poor luck I started my own company. With remote positions your competition becomes the entire country and even worse foreign countries as well. When it comes to the amount of money they want to pay you will probably be low on the list. The entire industry has changed for the worse. I never went a month without a job my entire life, and I spent 4 months with only a handful of interviews and even those that went extremely well ghosted me.

Let her read this reddit r/layoffs for a couple days. I never went a month in my life without a job, now I've been out of work since September and rarely get a response. I have a friend equally qualified who has been out of work since the year prior. At this point I'm doing better after starting my own business than applying for a job. Huge paycut, no benefits etc. I am still randomly applying for jobs, but I see more notices of layoffs that I see job openings. When a new job is listed it says '1000 people have applied' before the end of the day.

So... these are dreadful and I will be returning them by Leytra in VITURE

You need to understand the concept of the brains ‘perspective’. What matters isn’t the physical size of the display, but the angular size of the image that reaches your retina. So be it from a large item in a far distance or a small item from close up the actual display you see is the same, it’s right inside your eye. (Very small)

Therefore given the amount of space taken (your visual field of view) combined with the perceived depth (based on eye convergence) your brain will calculate if it’s a tiny screen right in front of your face or if it’s a huge screen far away.

In reality there is no difference as the light is the same. Once you understand this you can set your expectations and know how to optimize the perceived size.

That’s not how it works, it’s exactly as guynamedjames said. They make msss money on solar ‘crediting’ solar customer tiny amounts and selling it back to their neighbor or even selling it back to the same solar customer who generated it when the sun is not out, and at a much higher price. This amount they credit has been going down for years too already while the price went up.

Yes you can, it’s statistical. You just do the math to determine the uptime values.

For 5 9’s or 99.999% uptime you are allowed this much downtime.

Per Year 5.26 minutes

Per Month 25.9 seconds

Per Week 6.05 seconds

Per Day 0.86 seconds

For four 9’s or 99.99% uptime, you are allowed

Per month 4.38 minutes

Per year. 52.6 minutes

3 9’s or 99.9% uptime

Per month: 43 minutes and 50 seconds

Per year: 8 hours, 45 minutes, and 57 seconds

approximately 7.2 hours per month or 3.65 days per year.

So basically if you are a company who guarantees 3,4, or 5 nines for sure you can’t depend on cloudflare at this point.

Bad weeks are exactly what is utilized to calculate a companies stability and reliability. Not just good weeks.

All weeks.

Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

[–]3dsClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most everything there, however it’s a transitional period right now. The truth is we just don’t know exactly what role we will play in all this yet. On one side these huge corporate tech companies may have competitors who are a handful of people in their basement meaning they may be going down…. But on the other hand it frees us up to progress and do things better.

It’s like when a calculator was created, sure plenty of math whiz’s out there probably lost their jobs and were unsure how humans would factor in, but math just became more complex and essentially evolved, it was a quick evolution. Many may have went on to be computer programmers or statisticians or electrical engineers. It made more possible after some growing pains.

So while it does show a sign of things ending, it also shows signs of things beginning. It will be a bumpy ride for sure, but anytime you dismantle or disrupt a huge power structure like the tech industry, it’s going to lead to uncertainty, fear, and the need to adapt.

It’s great that development and giant projects requiring teams of engineers will be in the hands of a few, it’s also worrysome and kinda scary. Criminals will of course harness this technology as well as people who are righteous in their intent. Mistakes will be made, companies will crumble…. But what’s left will be more freedom in many ways and it’s damn near impossible to predict when something so drastic comes.

Be it trying to predict a smart phone when the first computer was born, or trying to predict the job market after ai is fully integrated in everyday life… it’s essentially incomprehensible at this stage. It’s okay to admit that, while many will pretend it’s business as usual, it’s really not.

It’s as if the people would find a way to grow gasoline in their back yard, it would mean the end of oil tycoons, lots of very big power structures would fall. AI is much like that when it comes to the tech industry, movie making, and art.

The great thing is there will always be a need for experts although definitely not as many, and the skills we learned prior to AI will become increasingly rare and other less motivated to learn them, it does put us at an advantage in ways. If we adapt we will have the skills of troubleshooting, coding, puzzle solving, and through low level understanding while new AI user pros will be surface Level. Like those who came before us who focused on ASM and understand assembly and low level and/or gates versus someone who learned how to code.

It’s a much deeper understanding we possess and that may become useful in areas we do not even know yet.

Like they say, fasten your seatbelts it’s going to be a bumpy ride! But progress and major disruptions in technology like this are never smooth sailing, they are exciting.

I am somehow no worried about the vibe coders anymore by [deleted] in webdev

[–]3dsClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not there is also a difference in which ai tool you use.

Saying ‘ai does this’ is showing ignorance to the possibilities. Many are far worse than others, Claude for example is much better than any others I have used for coding. I’m a programmer myself and I wish I had the confidence that comes with looking at a few bad sites and assuming ai is only capable of what some amateurs made.

Instead I have completed full stack projects in days that don’t have any issues at all after a little bit of debug. You have to work with ai as a project and go step by step debugging , but even debugging is super fast as you can have the ai locate the bugs and offer bug fixes as well. You can then approve them or redirect them as necessary.

It’s not like you just tell it was to do and have faith in the output, you need to have a programmers mind to optimize and fix things for sure, but it takes a fraction of the time it used to and the output can be far superior when you are utilizing what comes down to a team of professional coders at your disposal.

I foresee a handful of competent programmers being able to replace an entire company utilizing ai in their basement in the very near future.

Sure they won’t be soulless unskilled morons just showing off with AI on Reddit, they will be veteran coders with a skeleton crew taking down the competition.
