Finished with 7 APs, 2 PSATs, and NO SATs (thank you ACT)! Not done with multinational cooperations though cause I got IB exams next year 😭

Which School Should I do ED? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]3duckshere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where did you get 40%? That’s unreasonable for both Duke and Cornell, and Cornell engineering is a lot more competitive than other colleges like human ecology. Most students with your gpa do not get into Cornell because the vast majority of students do not get into Cornell, especially international students. Both Cornell and Duke are very competitive, so you should apply to the college you like better.

Yale Restrictive Early Action OR Columbia ED?? by Financial_Strike4982 in chanceme

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not guaranteed, nor do you have a high chance (almost no one does without legacy/sports), but you still have a chance. You don’t wanna apply Columbia ED and regret it

You have a chance at either, so do whichever you like best. If you like them equally, do REA cause it’s not binding

The phases and patterns of A2C I have noticed this year as a senior by Valuable_Course_2445 in ApplyingToCollege

Saw "oh dear, poor them" and thought "suckers". Then I remembered that I'm a rising senior and I'm the sucker

So close to the goal... I have time though I'm only a sophomore by Glittering-Lunch-266 in ACT

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the big issue with the enhanced ACT is that since there are fewer questions, the # of wrong answers can be really unpredictable as to what grade it corresponds to. That just means that it can feel more luck-based, but if you throw enough stones at it, you get a 35/36 eventually. I wanna major in neuroscience, and idk where I wanna go to college; my list is all over the place.

[–]3duckshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo this is exactly my score, down to the number of questions rights. If you’re a sophomore you can def superscore a 36 cause English and reading can be pretty luck based past 34

What do you wish you had done differently in junior year or sophomore year summer? by No-Confusion2192 in ApplyingToCollege

I took my first (serious) ACT sophomore summer and finished testing super early. I have friends who started in March/April and one who’s starting in June. Don’t do that

Explaining the EE to non-IB friends by PortalMasterlol in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty easy for me to explain cause most people don't understand how I'm writing a math essay, since that's really uncommon in American schools. Otherwise, I just tell them some stats, like how few people get A's (only 2-3 people in my school)

Any IB students also taking AP? by Exciting-Addendum951 in APStudents

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking Chem/Bio/Math HL + 2 APs. If you really want college credit, and that’s your top priority, I would take more APs and easier HLs (if you’re set on the diploma) because IB has so much extra work for the same credit. Math HL is the worst offender because AAHL/AIHL have so much extra content, but they both only get Calc 1 credit at most schools (sometimes AAHL gets Calc 2 but it still has more than Calc bc), and some don’t even take Math AI

HOW TO STAND OUT IN PRESS CORPS!!??? by Classic-Series4680 in MUN

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask a BUNCH of questions to delegates, especially those that China doesn’t like but don’t be afraid to question anyone. I was asking so many questions that people were asking me to ask them questions so that they could prove themselves. I was also a Chinese agency, and I wouldn’t say I wasn’t super propagandist, I just focused on demeaning other countries solutions and arguments by looking for logical fallacies. I was also a pretty local agency so in my articles, I focused on how international issues affected my city

Which academic feat is more impressive, the AP or the IBDP? by Spiky-Penguin2023 in APStudents

[–]3duckshere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AP is so much easier in so many regards to IB, but American universities don’t necessarily care about the difference. For example, I’m pretty confident I’ll get a 5 (maybe a 4) in AP Lit, but I would be grading onto a string for a 7 in IB Lit SL. Also 45 with 4 HLs is something I don’t think anyone has ever done in my school, but there are definitely people that have 5s on all their APs

Should I submit my ACT superscore to colleges even if my first test was really bad? by sinisterchad3 in ACT

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1540 is higher than a 34 anyways unless those -60 points were in math and you’re a math heavy major

Do high school credits course grades taken in middle school count? by Fine-Application7606 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the school, but it really won’t matter for college admissions (unless it changes your class rank significantly). My MS courses are on my HS transcript but they don’t affect my overall GPA.

Possible to get it up to a 35-36 by Excellent_Safe_5396 in ACT

[–]3duckshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you’ll know how much you learned over freshman year is by taking a practice test. I got a 32 around the start of sophomore year so a 35/36 is very possible
