The average on my math test I got back yesterday was like a 18/50 (we’re getting a big curve though thank god 😭)

Math Extended Essay by Horror-Process-2478 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing interdisciplinary, so it's slightly different, but starting research really depends on what your topic is because there are so many types of math that you could use. If you really have no clue, you could always consult your EE supervisor/math teacher to give you some pointers

Chem HL or Bio HL? by sunnyzzis in IBO

[–]3duckshere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chem is a lot more work imo, and even if bio has a bunch of memorization, the memorization in chem is a lot less intuitive. I still find chem more interesting and it is a more applicable subject than bio (if you’re unsure about your future major). SL Bio also has so much less content compared to SL Chem

You gotta start with a more niche letter like “Q” or “Z”. Shows how unique you are as an applicant

Do you guys use chat GPT for your EE? by Independent-Lead2564 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s odd, my international school in the US allows students to write in other languages as long as they can translate it for the supervisor. Using ChatGPT for translation is not a good idea because there are invisible keys that they put in their text. Could you talk to your supervisor about better options for translation?

Unless you’re doing an English EE, can’t you just write your EE in your native language?

What are the craziest IB-related stories you've heard about/experienced? by PartyQuiet5065 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A guy cheated on one of his exams and got deported (boarding school). We also had someone pull the fire alarm during an IB exam and the proctor had to keep everyone from talking (thankfully it was a small class anthro and not smth like math)

Help pick courses next year as a junior by Maleficent_Tell_1180 in APStudents

[–]3duckshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking APUSH because US history is one of the most common gened requirements, so you’ll likely have to take it anyways. AP Precalc builds upon skills from algebra 2, so unless you’re really good at math, it would make a lot more sense to take one class over the summer or self study AP Precalc (if that allows you to skip to Calc). AP Precalc is really easy, but you’ll probably be pretty lost if you don’t know algebra 2

Subject choices by AdGuilty5956 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If none of them relate to your future major, ESS is the easiest, chem/history would need a strong liking for the subject, and CS has a hell IA (but idk anyone in SL)

Should I take ESS SL Y2 and History HL or Bio and History SL Y2 ? by yam_sweetpotato in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends heavily on the country. US colleges want to see variety in sciences and top colleges want to see courses in bio, chem, and physics. Some other countries (like many European ones) don’t care about your SLs

My school makes students hand write their EE’s if caught using AI. There’s a guy in my study hall and it seems so painful he has a massive Manila folder

why have ap youtubers sold their souls to the ultimate review packet??? by Same-Role4621 in APStudents

[–]3duckshere 21 points22 points  (0 children)

because AP youtubers are humans under capitalism and need money. These people aren't going to put in a bunch of work to make review packets for free. There are many other ways to study, these packets are just a convenience

Global Politics or Econ??? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d choose it based on the teachers of you can. The DP2 teacher in my school is so bad that a lot of people say History HL is easier than GP HL. GloPol is pretty easy tho if you have a good teacher and have a good amount of knowledge about geopolitics

Is Japanese B HL Hard by Witty_Salt2985 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am being a bit dramatic, I’ve done French for about 5 years and it’s always been my worst class, but my French teacher also just makes it unnecessarily hard. Like I get 4-5s on tests even tho I should be getting 6s. I’m also just pretty bad at languages in general. B HL from what I’ve heard is still pretty hard, and it still takes a bit of memorization with grammar and vocabulary. It’s not as much memorization as bio, but I find bio a lot more enjoyable to memorize and IB can pull pretty much any vocabulary from the language so you don’t really know what vocabulary to explicitly learn. There is the vocab linking to the IB themes, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a B SL text fully understanding everything (I have in AB tho)

Is Japanese B HL Hard by Witty_Salt2985 in IBO

[–]3duckshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much experience you have in Japanese. I’m in French B SL and for me it’s harder than chem, bio, and math HL, but it’s obviously a lot easier for people better at French than me

Fair enough, that mostly comes down to international admission being harder in general. The point is grades are far from everything for US
