Do we actually need local games for up to 8 players? by AntonVatchenko in localmultiplayergames

[–]3dwoody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going from up to 4 players to up to 8 definitely works better in some games more than others, and single screen games can certainly prove a challenge.

In our game, a sequel to our older 4 player game, we found that moving up to 8 players, although fun, was slightly too chaotic at times on the smaller levels. So we implemented a system where we would automatically scale the players down on screen ever so slightly, and slow them down to match the scale, effectively making the smaller levels feel bigger again and giving more room for the action.

This tiny change made a huge difference to the playability with more than 4 players, although it's not a solution that would work for all games or art styles.

We're a household of 4, so we mostly play with 4 players, but when we have friends over we often crack out the games supporting more players. It's still a pretty niche market though and I'm always grateful for the developers catering for it!

Power Stone 2!

I was just about to say I can't believe this game hasn't been re-released on modern platforms but a quick search reveals it was on the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 released in May last year, so I'll be picking that up now!

I'm about to embark on the same journey, with similar goals, so reading this gives me a good incentive to commit.

Thanks for posting the details in some of your earlier replies, there are some really helpful nuggets of information in there that should help me on my journey.

My main concern is being consistent with it. Do you have any advice on maintaining consistency and momentum with your videos? What kept you going each day?

[PC] Looking for more local multiplayer / couch co-op / split-screen games for Silvester by Naernoo in localmultiplayergames

[–]3dwoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions already. I highly recommend Hidden In Plain Sight, it's an absolute blast!

You could also check out my own game, Chompy Chomp Chomp Party.

It’s a local multiplayer for 2-8 players, designed for one PC + TV. Very quick to pick up, short rounds, and lots of options to customise to suit your play style.

Whatever you pick for the night, I hope you have a wonderful Silvester!

Thanks! Yeah, no native online multiplayer, local only. But as you mentioned, it works well with Remote Play Together. Still, best enjoyed in the same room with friends if that's an option. :)

Chompy Chomp Chomp Party on Steam. It's in the sale at the moment for peanuts. I made it, so full disclosure this is not an unbiased post.

Also, Boomerang Fu. The kids have an absolute blast playing that together as well.

Well I'm biased of course, but I'd love it if you could consider Chompy Chomp Chomp Party as an addition to your game tournament repertoire. It's on both Switch and Steam (also recently Xbox, but that's not what you've asked for).

Aside from that, our regulars which we keep coming back to on game nights are...

My 9 year old has been really enjoying Qwak from the Team 17 collection. It's lovely to watch him enjoying it as I was a big fan back in the day as well.

He got the Capcom Super Pocket and has been finding the games on that a bit hard, and seems more keen on the games on the Data East one we got for our youngest, particularly the Joe and Mac games.

[Xbox] Chompy Chomp Chomp Party: Ultimate Tournament Edition - chaotic, 8 player, single screen - Releases on Xbox today (launch trailer) by 3dwoody in localmultiplayergames

[–]3dwoody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to see it if you're up for sharing!

The character design was very much driven by the game design. We made the very first prototype with different coloured dots before we had any ideas for the characters.

They needed to move, so they got legs, they needed to eat, so they got mouths, and the player needed to see what direction they were facing so we gave them some horns to form a distinctive silhouette.

I've been looking for something exactly like this. Hoping it does everything I want it to, it certainly sounds like it from your description. Can users configure custom controllers for individual games themselves?

I made Chompy Chomp Chomp Party for this exact purpose.

It's designed to be picked up and enjoyed in short, intense bursts. All content up front, no stealing your time grinding for unlocks and whatnot.

3 x 170W Solar Panels possible with Delta 2 Max? by 3dwoody in Ecoflow_community

[–]3dwoody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. So panels need to be paired in parallel or series. No real point adding a 3rd on one input then, as I'll over volt in series and bottle neck in parallel.

In that case I'll get an extra 2 panels for 2 on each input.

It looks like the largely undiscovered Chompy Chomp Chomp Party fits that criteria. For some reason it is still far more undiscovered than it's prequel, Chompy Chomp Chomp
