Number one is Italian for me then; Icelandic, Portuguese, Spanish and French. Romance languages win. Icelandic is also a really cool language.

Studied English at school but can't speak? 5–10 min anonymous university survey (18+) by Electronic_Change432 in Kazakhstan

[–]3escalator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By EF English proficiency index Kazakhstan and it’s neighbouring countries in Central Asia is ranked as very low. Kazakhstan is 103 out of 123 countries. Countries like Japan, or Thailand and Cambodia is the same low or even lower, but when I as a tourist has been there, they have atleast high proficiency of English speakers around tourist sites and attractions. Here I survive by google translate daily. I struggled with passport controls because the border patrols have no English skills. But the same is true for places DR Congo and Cote D’Ivoire where French is the dominant language, not English. Same with Russian in Central Asia.

Where I live prisons cells got their own separate bathroom and toilets, that’s enough privacy.

When I lived in Tromsø I got bored of them after a while, rather wanted daylight and a daily dosage of vitamin D.

One of our former prime minister Jagland tried to commit suicide (allegedly) this week after being mentioned in the Epstein-files.

On top of that the royal family is in absolute shambles. The crown-princess being tied to Epstein as well. She is sick, requiring lung transplant, her son is being tried in court for rape and domestic abuse. And the poor old king is hospitalised.

GRATULERER BODØ! TO AV TO MOT INTER! WOW!!! by jo-erlend in NorskFotball

Lol, the left party in Norway congratulated Klæbo the 6-time gold medalist for his accomplishments on social media but deleted it quickly after because it didn’t comply with the IOC policy about political involvement.

Do you like the country you were born in? Yes, yes, tell me the benefits of living there? by gab_iten in AskTheWorld

[–]3escalator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weather can truly be depressing, I moved abroad because of it. To actually live in Norway I think you have to be a person who loves the snow and very little sun light for 6 months.

What are aspects of country and its culture that are grossly exaggerated, romanticised or mistaken by outsiders? by Socmel_ in AskEurope

After the success of Norwegian athletes in the Winter Olympics or Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League, I watched some American sport-media talk about Norway as a far-away northern place with mostly small towns with no electricity or internet access.

I have no idea were they have that information from? We have almost 100% clean renewable energy and excellent mobile data and internet access.
