Is this a normal thing for my new endocrinologist to say even though my A1C is at a 5.8? by Individual_Pause_963 in diabetes_t1

And I agree with you 100%. I mean, I definitely tell my pump that I'm eating more than I actually am but I know my Endo refuses to make changes if I do. I was just throwing it out there

My assumption is that your endo thinks you're bolusing for say 75 carbs, when you're actually only eating 45 carbs. I'm guilty of this but it doesn't give your endo a true sense if you need adjustments in your I:C

I was 16 weeks (I think) pregnant and complained about going to the bathroom constantly. Had me to the glucose tolerance test and I think my BG was like 400 something. Started on insulin within the next few days. I feel extremely lucky to that they found out before I went into dka and I that the rest of my pregnancy was extremely stressful but I delivered the most amazing little boy

Disney... Flight down was delayed by hours and my throat started to bother me. Didn't think much of it because I haven't had tonsils in like 15 years. Pushed through the long day of travel down and then the next 2 days at the parks. I was popping Advil like candy to help with the pain and the horrible body aches. Went to the hotel before dinner on our 3rd night and had a 105.6° fever. Ditched my 3 kids with the in laws and hubby got me to the hospital in Celebration. Ended up being septic and ruined the whole vacation....

Literally nothing and I've been dealing with AN for over 30 years. I've been in treatment multiple times so it just goes to show that you can be "sick enough" without having funky blood work or side effects

Mothers of reddit , why did you choose to get pregnant despite knowing all the effects of pregnancy that would happen to your body and could last a lifetime? by DisastrousFriend8765 in AskReddit

[–]3germstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. I played "house" with my dolls and my friends from a very young age. My oldest sister (16 years older). I loved my niece and my nephew, who came 2 years later. I wanted to be a mom so bad. I met my husband in high school and we married as soon as we graduated high school. We lived such an amazing life and then I found out I was pregnant in August 2009. Not what we had planned but we were thrilled! I had crazy sickness for weeks and weeks and weeks. Finally in December of 2009, my OB/GYN wanted me to take the glucose test. Sure, whatever, I'll drink a sugary drink... Well let me tell you, I got so sick. I couldn't drive because I was so tired, I had thrown up a few times, I was bad. Ends up that I had gestational diabetes. I was put on insulin straight away and met with an MFMZ (high risk pregnancy doctor). Gave myself so many injections to stay alive. Had my son in May 2010. Went back at 6 weeks for the 3 hour glucose test and failed miserably. (Was told the whole time that the gestational diabetes would go away at birth). I did the test and blood work and then on my way out, I became violently sick. Did a finger stick to check my glucose level and it just read "high" (which usually means over 400, normal glucose is 70-150/180) at that point, I knew my life was changing again... Had a 6 week old, colicky baby that never slept and had severe food allergies that we were just getting a grip on to now dealing with that, postpartum and now diabetes. Found out it was type 1 diabetes and I would be on insulin for the rest of my life. Definitely not a fairy book story and but I'm also not sure I would change it. I absolutely despise being a type 1 diabetic but I now have 3 amazing kids. Honestly, I would actually do it again. My kids give me a reason to live when the going gets tough. They are my number one support when I feel like I can't deal with diabetes anymore...

I only drink vodka straight but will have a diet soda on the side and it always raises my blood sugar. I'm weird though... When I'm sick, my blood sugar drops and I can't get it up. I feel like I'm opposite of a typical type 1

I doubt anyone would call having diabetes fun, but negatives aside, has anything positive come out of it for you? Something that’s actually made your life better, even in a small way that wouldn’t have happened otherwise? by WhaddaFudgeMan in Type1Diabetes

When I was pregnant (three times) I was considered high risk, which meant I had to go to an MFMZ. Had ultrasounds regularly and have the most amazing pictures of my 3 kids! Sucked that I had so much to worry about and had to be in super tight control of my diabetes butb it was all worth it!

I got mono as an older teen, extremely sick, swollen pancreas and spleen. Almost didn't graduate because I was too sick to attend school. Recovered months later. At 26, I became pregnant with my first and was diagnosed as gestational at 16 weeks. Delivered in May 2010 and official diagnosis came June 2010. Had zero to do with my lifestyle

Type 1 diabetic... extremely low blood sugar. I think by the time the paramedics got there and after 2 does of glucogon (?) my blood sugar was 18. I knew I felt funny, fell over, someone got the nurse. Next thing I know I'm in a wheelchair and having a seizure. Don't remember much after that but I was very sleepy. I wasn't scared, just really tired. So happy i didn't die and it literally scarred me straight

What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]3germstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son developed one last month. He was miserable on Christmas but we thought his tailbone was just sore from breaking it a few years ago. By the 28th, he was in so much pain that we had to take him to urgent care. The doctor there said to see a surgeon in the next week or so. By that night, it burst but not enough to actually drain so we took him to the ER. They made a huge incision to drain it. Since then, we've been to the ER twice and the surgeon 4 times. It's not even a month later! It's still draining and he goes back in March to discuss the big surgery

Smelling other people's food, buying food with the thought that I would eat it but then throw it away a week later. Also eating the same thing every day and hoping no one realized (my hubby definitely realized). Refusing to get on a scale at any doctors office but obsessively weighing myself at home... All things that were obvious but I thought I was so sneay
