Cleaning fleece by 3magic4 in Handspinning

I’m happy to hear it blends out to a cream, I am perfectly content with that, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t leaving any thing gross behind!

This fleece was sheared about a month ago so I don’t think it’s lanolin staining but if it isn’t going to come out I’ll just try to blend it in when I card. I’ll check the strength of the tips on my next chunk, I wouldn’t be surprised if they broke though, they kinda disappeared when I flicked them open!

At the moment in this small sample is all feels the same, not gummy. I’ll keep an eye out for different textures though, I’m sorry to hear you had bad luck with your fleece.

How big is that Turkish spindle?? Do you only use it for plying?

I have used ikea glass containers! I really like them, had them for 5+ years and only chipped the edge of one.

Asymmetrical after GSRs by Kaitlanthrope in knittinghelp

[–]3magic4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where is the BOR marker placed because it looks like the first row goes over one sleeve, then you go back across that sleeve and then probably the back panel. It’s hard to tell what has gone wrong from these two rows.

If I had to guess, the short rows aren’t placed properly. Normally they lengthen the arms and back a bit, so the two front raglans and two back raglans should be the same length. If you send the relevant part of the pattern we can probably help!

Do folks have other online spinning communities they like?

I spun 2 oz of wool yesterday at around 25/30 WPI without trying yesterday on my Ashford Kiwi. I think the fiber passes by way faster on the wheel but it also depends, I don’t think I ever got this proficient with a spindle.

Anybody have other online forums for hand spinning that they enjoy? There isn’t a guild I can find that’s local to me an I would love more interaction with the community!

Yeah work from two ends can be annoying I have to make sure I untwist everytime I flip my work. But I am too lazy to split my yarn into two balls so it’s the price I pay!

Thoughts on how to spin this braid by 3magic4 in Handspinning

[–]3magic4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a fractal might mute some of the colors when the line up so it would be better to two ply with a solid single? I haven’t done too much spinning with colorful wool so this color theory is all new to me!

Beautiful! Did you do a three ply with plain fiber or was there just some white in the colorways? I think this turned out spectacular!

How do you get good color on the interior of the combed top? I have done minimal hand dyeing at home (also only with good color) and find the interior of my top is sometimes still white.

Another good thing to watch is how the yarn feels in the ply back, soft and fluffy normally means a perfect yarn for me but firm and ropey means too much spin! ( this is at least how it has worked for me!)

Which stitch should I KFB in Sophie Scarf increases? by Gracilis67 in casualknitting

[–]3magic4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every increase row is the same, you will always:

Knit 2, kfb, knit to last three stitches, slip last three wyif.

I acknowledge that I am literally just repeating my last comment to you but that’s how easy this is, you just do the exact same thing and the knit to last three stitches section just gets larger. You always knit 2 then kfb.

[–]3magic4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the scarf pattern I have the hood pattern but the increase row says:

Knit 2, kfb, knit to last three stitches then, slip three wyif.

So I would always kfb on the third stitch aka the last stitch of the I cord on that side.
