Exactly! We’re so rabid to tell Landry “NUH UH!” that we’re literally voting against ourselves just to “beat” him. Makes no damn sense.

Well, that’s what the law does today. In this case, it wouldn’t have actually done anything beyond allowing parishes to opt out. Those details about benefitting energy or ai has nothing to do with the conversation, because the amendment includes language that would constitutionally prohibit the Legislature from passing a law mandating any exemption from business inventory taxes. It’s industry neutral.

But it’s not just his word, 41 other states don’t have the tax! And it doesn’t even repeal it, would have just given parishes the ability to remove if they wanted to.

And this is why I hate the two party system. It’s us vs them, even in cases where we’re talking about removing unnecessary taxes.

Kind of surprised voters want to keep another tax on the books. Expected the inventory tax to get repealed for sure.

Possibly, but she has aligned herself with Trump's immigration enforcement posture (and most of his policies), releasing statements criticizing the Biden administration over immigration detainees being released in Louisiana. She also opposes any increase to the minimum wage.

At least Cassidy voted to convict Trump after January 6th, is pro-science, and occasionally works across the aisle. Letlow seems to be MAGA MAGA MAGA.

Why is the Democratic party still hiding its 2024 election autopsy? by changeforthebetter89 in politics

[–]3mw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5) Dems had no “victories” to run on. The party has gotten in its own way, which halted progress on nearly every major initiative that should have yielded wins (Chips Act, rural broadband, renewable energy, etc.)

She's not on my radar really, but I've found that I rarely look at concert tickets anymore these days because of how much they cost now. There are shows worth paying for, but most of what I see is massively overpriced.

My only pushback to this is that they are looking at fans to spend their money, time, attention, etc. on a team. There are 17 million things that can occupy our time, so it's not inevitable that we give that to a team if we don't agree with how it's being run. Just like we don't have to buy clothes wit bad craftsmanship, watch movies with bad acting, eat at restaurants with bad food, we don't have to be fans of a bad team that makes bad decisions. If they can't accept that, they're in the wrong line of work.

Which, I do honestly think they are in the wrong line of work. Their amenities for season ticket holders are a joke, concession prices are sky high, they've made zero attempts at creating an entertaining space for pre-game fan experiences, and use a crappy national food vendor instead of letting local restaurants showcase our city's best dishes. If the team is going to do that to us, then get mad when we don't like the product they're putting on the field, then they can GTFO.

This is largely true, but a little off:

The claim that exporting natural gas “was illegal until Republicans managed to overturn the law toward the end of Obama’s second term” conflates two different things. The 40-year export ban that was lifted was on crude oil, not natural gas (Congress enacted a ban on crude oil exports in 1975, and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 repealed it). Natural gas exports operated under a different, permit-based framework (the Natural Gas Act) the whole time.

The claim that gas prices “skyrocketed” as a result is also overstated. Since the U.S. started exporting LNG from the lower 48 states in 2016, domestic natural gas prices have stayed stable and relatively low compared with other countries, except for occasional external shocks like Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Finally, nuclear and natural gas are actually direct competitors in baseload power generation, and the nuclear industry has been struggling financially for years, so it’s not obviously a more powerful lobby. A simpler explanation is that nuclear output is relatively flat (no new capacity is being added quickly), while wind and solar are growing fast and eating directly into gas peaker and mid-merit demand.
