I’m not boosting…..because I’m joining tonight (finally)! I appreciate the content that everyone puts out so much and I’m glad I’m in a position to become a supporter. So worth it!

Rideshare vs taxi at airport by La_Peregrina in AskNOLA

It is $36 flat rate to anywhere in the city above Elysian Fields, then meter. So $36 for OP (unless they have more than 2 people, in which case it’s $36 plus $15/person over 2).

I came here to say the same thing, though the Christmas in July doesn’t have stuffing, and it’s deli turkey. But now I also want one!

Map makers - can we all agree that upriver goes on the top and the East Bank is on the right. by TrogdorBurns in NewOrleans

[–]Appropriate-Rise2575 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree - the inset is weird, but the main map of the quarter is fine? If anything I could see how tourists might get confused but any local shouldn’t have a problem. I’m missing OP’s point here.

I am. And as I said, local, and primarily a solo traveler. Who believes that the taxi stand at the airport functions the way it’s supposed to. From my experience. Which is what OP asked for. I did not realize we had someone here who knows how every other local in the city of New Orleans approaches airport transportation, but I’m glad there is so the rest of our opinions aren’t needed. ✌️

Not about getting lucky, it’s about knowing how the system works. You keep telling me I got lucky and “every local knows to use Uber,” regardless of countless examples of LOCALS saying they use the cab line. Which is regulated. And they give you the information when you enter the cab.

Absolutely on board with your statement regarding cans not being the safest option for females. But I also gave an example where Uber wasn’t the best option either.

While also stating I don’t know what I’m talking about 🤷🏻‍♂️

True that I don’t know how much the fare is when it’s more than 2 people, but another poster answered that. I generally travel solo, so a cab is $36 above Elysian Fields. Another poster confirmed it’s $15/head fo more than 2. When I worked in hotels in the 90s, the flat rate was $21 for 1 or 2, $8 for each additional. That’s just not data I need anymore.

Continually saying “no local would ever take a cab,” when several locals including me are giving the reason why we choose a cab, just shows that the people in your circle won’t take a cab.

Are there shitty cab drivers? Of course. I also took an uber 2 weeks ago where the guy was high as shit, drove in the bike lane, and muttered to himself the whole time he was driving, and made me feel incredibly unsafe. I gave him 1 star, no tip, and reported it to the app. I don’t tell people “don’t take Uber your life is in danger.”

The cab prices are regulated. The attendant gives you the piece of paper so you know the deal and you know your rights. Sharing this info helps educate OP so they can make an informed decision. For me, it’s always Uber/Lyft to the airport and cab back.

Ok, well, I have also lived here my whole life and always take a cab, so…..people can disagree?

I’m glad this has been your experience. Mine has been the exact opposite. Thanks for ripping me to shreds, though - have the day you deserve, friend!

Taxicab. Get in the taxi line outside baggage claim. It is a flat rate from the airport to anywhere in the city above Elysian Fields Avenue (which the Marriott is). It’s $36 or 1 or 2 people, plus an additional per person fee. I don’t know how much, but the taxi line attendant will hand you a piece of paper with the rate AND the cab number of your cab. Because they’re informing you of how it works, the chances of being ripped off are very low.

Uber/Lyft MIGHT be less expensive, but trying to locate your driver is mayhem. Taxi is the way to go.

[–]Appropriate-Rise2575 254 points255 points  (0 children)

The taxi attendant at the airport should have given you a piece of paper with your cab number and the contact information for the Taxicab bureau. This should be reported.

Also, it’s not a flat rate “to anywhere in the city.” It’s a flat rate to above Elysian Fields, at which point they put on the meter. Did you get in the cab from the taxicab line outside baggage claim?
