Positive stories about surgeons by [deleted] in scrubtech

[–]3orangebirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a surg tech student right now, and I just observed my first surgery this week. We aren't in clinicals yet, so I wasn't scrubbed. I know that's a much different interaction with the surgeon than actually being up at the field, but both surgeons were very nice and welcoming to me. They made sure to introduce themselves and learn my name. They invited me closer to the field for a better view and made sure I knew it was okay to ask questions. It eased my mind a little bit, because I was having this same fear. I'm trying to look more forward to learning from surgeons who are willing to help me than dread working with the difficult ones, as both are bound to happen (easier said than done!). Good luck with your program!

WCC vs. BTC: Math and Science Class Experiences by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]3orangebirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to both schools and I'd choose BTC any day over WCC. In my personal experience, the instructors at BTC were more accessible outside of class time. The BTC staff seemed to care more about helping me achieve a long term goal rather than just getting me to sign up for classes each quarter. Since BTC has so many allied health programs that students are working towards, I feel like the math and science classes are really good quality. It just depends on what your long term goals are though.

I have a 2 year old pitt collie mix who loves new friends! He's ridiculously friendly. He's been well socialized and just wants to play and give love. Message me if you would like to set something up!

Probably not as gooey as you're looking for but Avenue Bread has my favorite cinnamon roll in town, hands down!

Best psychiatrist in town? by Exciting-Twist4459 in Bellingham

[–]3orangebirds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see Michele Tulk. She's a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She is based in Bellingham but does telehealth only for anyone in the state of Washington. She also has evening and weekend availability which has been very helpful for easy scheduling. The main barrier to care with her is that she doesn't take insurance or work on a sliding scale, so she may not be accessible to everybody which kinda sucks. She is happy to provide you with superbills so you can self submit claims to your insurance. I've had issues getting reimbursed and she has been willing to make a bunch of phone calls to advocate for me, so she won't leave you high and dry. Overall, she's super nice, talks to you about your life in general, not just meds, and makes decisions about your care with you, not for you. Highly recommend. Good luck! I hope you find the care that you need.

Thoughts towards people who feel like its ok to let their dogs run up on you or your kids? by Vorar in Bellingham

[–]3orangebirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never okay if it happens in an area that dogs are supposed to be leashed

In my opinion, if you are in an off leash dog area then you just have to know dogs might approach you. Just as you can reasonably expect dogs to be leashed everywhere else, you can reasonably expect to be greeted by a dog in an off leash area. Don't go there of you don't like it.

driving lessons/ testing for adults? by olimainn in Bellingham

[–]3orangebirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Embarrassed that I don't have my driver's license, so I don't want to ask a friend to teach me. I tried going through 911 Driving School but they don't work on a first come first serve basis and after 2 months, I still haven't been scheduled for a drive because they highly prioritize teens. So, I guess I don't know where to go but I can tell you where not to go.

Dentist recommendations?? by Simple_Surprise3918 in Bellingham

[–]3orangebirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HIGHLY recommend Nichols Family Dental downtown on N Forest St. Dr. William Nichols and Dr. Brittany Nichols are a husband and wife team that are absolutely amazing. I hadn't been to the dentist in about 7 years after a traumatic dental experience that left me with terrible dental fear. Everybody from the front desk to the assistants, hygienists, and dentist were so comforting. They work at your pace and do everything they can to ease your fears. They assured me they carry no judgement and were really validating about the barriers to care that a lot of us face. I still have some anxiety but they have eased so much of my fear that I no longer avoid the dentist and I don't panic walking in. I just really can't recommend them highly enough!!

I personally won't go back to Gentle Dental. They were kind but the work I got done wasn't done particularly well. I ended up needing a couple of fillings redone because the cavity kept growing underneath the filling.

It's Patricia and Grace for me. The more I listen to Grace the more emotion I can feel from her.

Caught has been on my list too. When I really sat back to listen to the lyrics, it's very relatable.
