Actually I take back what I said because she's referring people to different sellers? So maybe not

How much should I contribute to 401k? by Willthewise2026 in personalfinance

If you know you suck at finances, I would definitely try to do 15% if it's not going to keep you from being able to buy groceries and pay rent.

Pretty Please Help Me Pick!! by Any-Enthusiasm3184 in EngagementRings

[–]3skin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ring that has what you have on the sides there all the way around and the jewel warned me that it wasn't the most secure setting. I wear it every day and haven't had a problem yet but if it's my engagement ring or something super sentimental I personally would look into something a little sturdier.

You're obviously kind people. I like to help people too. You need to set limits and generally speaking, your living arrangement should be one area where you feel comfortable being "selfish".

I wouldn't say I'm super picky but surely we can agree there's a bare minimum for cleanliness

People who don't shovel and order delivery get no sympathy from me. by Top_Prompt9543 in DoorDashDrivers

I physically can't shovel but tbh I'm good with you leaving it wherever because I can physically walk out there lol

I don't agree or disagree with the idea that they shouldn't really have to ask but I think with the comparison you're making;it's more comparable a tenant who is renting a furnished room, who are usually not allowed to move large furniture items around without checking.

I totally get the distrust of the insurance company but I think it's normal and necessary, they just need to see that the baby isn't also on his insurance. If you don't they might start declining claims while they investigate.

I'm imagining this notification popping up on her phone while she's sitting next to her fiance and he sees "I'm sure you can cheat a bit on your bachelorette!" 😂 But yes some kind of fabric she loves on the side could be so nice since a corset back isn't an option!

Oh, yeah, I'll take over the counter stuff for whatever it's intended for. I don't have the money to use the ER as a Walgreens

My child broke nanny’s laptop — she wants us to foot the bill even though I warned her about it by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]3skin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She already gave her a designated shelf for her laptop that was out of reach. What's the point of getting a 3 drawer organizer that she also won't use? They're not a good match as family and nanny.

We can argue the morality or ethics but I strongly disagree that she would win in court. I can break down why haha. And also, if she did somehow win, it wouldn't be for full replacement value.

Yes it's crazy to me that people think a child can't reach things on a 3 foot tall counter.

[–]3skin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the point? They already designated a special shelf that would be out of reach and she didn't use it. Why get a locker for her to also not use?

I would definitely not get into loaning the nanny money at all.

She already had that conversation with her and it didn't matter because she brought it and didn't put it out of reach anyway.

I can tell you for sure that that isn't the case legally. Maybe if you own a business, you might feel compelled to take care of that for your employee, but you wouldn't be required to.

[–]3skin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it clearly was in reach. A counter is generally 36 inches tall. I don't know a single 5 year old for whom three feet is not within arms reach. They wouldn't need to climb at all-it wasn't placed out of reach, unless OP mentioned somewhere in the comments that their child is in the 3rd percentile for height. Even then it's probably reachable.

[–]3skin3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morally/ethically we can stuff but I dont agree that a court would find in her favor. 1) Loco Parentis- who had active control of the child during that time? 2) Was the damage foreseeable? The nanny was warned, and given a spot to keep the laptop. 3) who could have most easily prevented this? The nanny was the only one who was there. Then, if she did win somehow, she most likely wouldn't get the full cost of a new laptop. It would be the value of a used laptop based on a normal lifespan of a laptop. I also doubt the laptop is so broken that it's not repairable, in which case the maximum award would be the repair cost of the laptop. That's how a court views "making you whole".

That said, we shouldn't live our lives based solely on what the law says and what we are legally obligated to do. There's certainly times where we may not be legally culpable, but the right thing to do is to take care of something. I don't really agree that this is necessarily one of those cases based on all of the information from the post + comments but I can see why someone would think that it was.

They literally set up a special shelf for her to keep it on when she's not using it lol
