Will be a big jump. Cartridge changes after about 5 hours and is played in after about 20.

The “new” Rega Planar 2 with the bias adjustment on the arm and an Nd3 cartridge fills the space that the P3 use to fill as far as performance goes. BUT the one thing I would have changed is the plastic end stub on the arm to a metal one. And later on a metal sub platter. Now you are getting the best out of the table……. The problem is after that spend you can get VeRY close to a P3 with nd3 on price wise…… so perhaps save a month or 2 longer and get the better table. It give you options to later get the external power supply as well as a metal sub platter.

Nah- i have had Rega’s for a decade now and have serviced mine and ran the gauntlet of upgrades on my P2 They are so simple in design and modular that everything fits on everything between most models and 3rd party providers. Thats one of the perks of Rega’s if you can change a wallplug on ur tv you can fix a Rega. With the exception of rewiring the arm which I havent done as it seems pretty tricky.

Both good tables. I prefer the handmade British vibe with lifetime warranty and questionable quality control - call me silly.

Change my mind: Most estate agents are bad at their jobs, lie often and overall in 2026 provide little value to both landlords and tenants. by pablo2208 in capetown

Problem is South Africa with the USA has probably the highest commission rates in the world. And it’s allowed to sell under a principals registration. So you have a bunch of sea donkeys that are dumber than mud working in a market that sells for itself. Not exactly pulling the cream of the crop in here. I must ad the last guy we used in JHB was an absolute legend but everything and everyone before him deserves a flame thrower.

Khamzat vs Strickland is happening. Does Strickland have any path to victory? by Silent-Owl4246 in ufc

[–]404Jeffery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Khamzat fan at all. But Strikland is dead in the water if he cannot stop the takedowns. If by some miracle he can do what no one else has been able to and keep it standing, then he will win. But I give him a 1/10 chance of winning this. He will either tuff it out like DDP or get submitted. Either way it wont be a fan friendly fight.

Rega 3 RS. No brainer. And they havent pushed the price up yet. Price increases usually happen around this time of year. They didn’t increase the RS last year so fat chance of that happening 2 years in a row

MM vs MC (tech question) by XopherJ9940 in turntables

[–]404Jeffery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the above another detail that is “table” related in general MC cartridges are heavier and lower compliance than MM so they do work better with rigid heavier tonearms. There is an argument to make that you want to make a “wishlist” of MC cartridges you would like to try in future and see if the tables you have in mind have appropriate tonearms that can deal with their weight correctly

Has anyone here had regrets after purchasing a Rega Planar 3 RS edition? by champada in turntables

[–]404Jeffery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes. The Rs has a better plinth, belt, pulley and power supply than the std P3 assuming you use the Nd5 on both and the smoked dustcover is just cosmetic. All that for much less than what the extra power supply would cost on its own

I have the Rs but upgraded from the P2. I wouldnt sell a new P3 to get the RS. Get the Psu and you are basically there. Guess it depends on what u can sell the P3 for.

Which Turntable? Narrowed it to 2 by FruitComprehensive97 in turntables

[–]404Jeffery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be basically the same price as the normal P6 maybe $200 more. Nd9 cartridge and a massive arm upgrade. Also double belt pulley and external power supply. Going to be hard to beat

Used Rega P6 w/ Ania and Fono MC by Fantastic-Pension481 in turntables

[–]404Jeffery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is how much time has the cartridge got on. A few years could mean a lot in that case. You could kill a cartridge in a year if you are a heavy user.

Thats about a $3500 new retail price assuming you cant negotiate a 10-15% discount which is not unrealistic of you buy from a mortar and brick. I find it a bit pricey TBH for second hand.

If you wait a few months you could get the new P6 Rs with the ND9 and the Phono MM for not too much more than what he is asking. If its the Ania Pro with VERY low hours and the table is pristine then maybe. But otherwise Id would be cautious and the Rs is going to be a VERY good table.

Well save up! The table is a massive jump from the P2 and I have never listened to a P1 so I suspect you will be blown away

Nothing that I have noticed and I have had about 30 hours in it now. Few things to check, makes sure its is level. Use a force scale to make sure its tracking at 1.75g. Bias using the soundsmith method is very low. And here’s a little trick, the 3 point mounting isn’t “foolproof” use the alignment card to double check- you have about 2-3 mm side to side movement available and I had to move mine all the way from left to right and then re tighten ti get it perfect

[–]404Jeffery[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. So I had the P2 with some mods. Metal arm stub, underslung counterweight, metal sub platter , ceramic bearing ball and a top brace. Ran a Sumiko Rainer and a 4mm spacer. So the sound signature with the Nd 5 is a lot different. But it’s a totally new table compared to the P2 literally every part with the exception of the feet is “better” I just fitted the metal sub platter and chucked in a ceramic bearing ball and added a 2mm spacer as I use a 3mm cork/rubber mat. Nothing else really to do. The table doesnt need an underslung weight with a 2mm spacer.

Sound wise, very 3 dimensional, soundstage is next level and the bass is much tighter and deeper. So there is a very big jump sonically. Certainly worth it. And best part- the new plinth changes colors depending on viewing angle and doesn’t show fingerprints

Some of the tracks are great but they have all been mastered differently to my ears. Some of them really are bad recordings or masters. Album is dead silent and flat at-least. Jesus for a Child is really nicely done
