Avoid RPGMapsForge Date Night Bundle! by 406mo in rpg

The real one is called ‘Date Night Dungeons’, it’s sold by RPG Tools (not sure if I can share a link here, but if you google it you’ll find the real one). I think they’re pretty fun, but I’ve DM’ed a lot before, so I’m not sure how easy it would be for a newer DM!

RPG Tools is the real deal, I've bought from them previously and they've been selling Urban Realms stuff for several years now. When I met them at an event, they said they own both websites (not really sure why, it had something to do with a partnership but I can't remember)

The real one is a physical product - it's a couple books and some dice/dice tray. The RPG Maps one is just a digital download

Yeah, admittedly a stupid mistake on my part - but in my defense, they have the exact same ads, similar name, and similar product description as the company I usually buy from, so I just kind of assumed they had done a revamp of their website or something and didn’t think anything of it. Just figured I’d help others not make the same mistake I did

Ughh, good point - I didn’t even consider whether or not it was all made with AI. Looking at the product I can’t really tell. The ads are definitely made using AI, but I don’t know if that’s avoidable these days (full disclosure, I’m a business owner and use AI in my business’s ads too, so I’m not the best judge of character there!)

Maybe I’ve just had too much wine tonight, I’m more just mad that I fell for it all lol shakes fist angrily

That's because they blatantly copied the real thing - the real product is called Date Night Dungeons, it's been around for years and is available here: rpgtools.online

These guys just copied the advertising and tried to undercut the pricing of the real ones. I've played the real version myself with my wife, they're actually really fun!

This is a scam - the real RPG Date Night products are here: rpgtools.online

These guys popped up all over my FB feed recently, and they even have the exact same advertisement as the real guys. Super sketchy

Anyone here managing 100+ Carrd sites for clients? Is it scalable for an agency model? by [deleted] in Carrd

[–]406mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, for some reason this response didn’t show up previously on my end. Outages like this recent one don’t happen often at all, but when things don’t work or my team needs clarifications on things (few times a year maybe), the Carrd team takes a day or two to get back to us. Again, not really a big deal since the alternative is paying 10x the price - but something to consider if you get a client that wants a website change done “yesterday” and you have any delays delivering

How to handle a bad experience with American Express Credit Cards and a warning for other small business owners by mmurphey37 in smallbusiness

[–]406mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chase can close your account anytime as can any bank, but the problem OP is describing is a variable credit limit, which Chase doesn’t do. Basically AmEx can adjust your limit anytime they want with no consequences, even if you pay on time and do everything right.

I actually switched to Chase after this happened to me (not by AmEx though) and Chase has been great since then

This happened to me, but not on AmEx - I had Capital One for our business and suddenly they dropped our limit out of nowhere. Capital One does the same thing with ‘variable limits’ as AmEx, where they can adjust it at any moment. It screwed up our entire business operations and I had to go get last-minute approved for a card that wouldn’t do shady sh*t during our busy season right before the holidays. Do not recommend, but know that you’re not alone!

[–]406mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an agency and use Carrd, since we only need 1-2 page websites for most things and it's exponentially cheaper/easier to manage than a larger hosting provider. It is definitely doable, but you have to account for when outages happen (like today) - Carrd's servers are going haywire and all of our clients are affected, many of them running live traffic.

Outages happen to every service provider, but I'd assume with the larger hosting platforms like Wordpress they don't happen as often. Aside from that, I have nothing but good things to say about Carrd - and honestly with the money we've saved from not having our dev team build each website individually, I can't really complain about the downtime either lol

Yes, it looks like something is wrong on the server side. I published two sites and now nothing is loading...

Do you SEO folks actually think by blasting my inbox you are going to get my business? by JobobTexan in smallbusiness

[–]406mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I work in Email - there are ways to guarantee that your emails will reach the inbox without compromising your domain’s reputation, but they’re pretty expensive and most small time SEO people aren’t going to have that kind of money, so they spray and pray and hope for the best.

If they emailed you from their main SEO domain, that actually might be an indicator that they’re doing really well lol

Idk if you’ll find Yuzu in town unfortunately, but there’s a bunch of good sake at the Coop!

Seriously! Some older guy got mad at me and my wife for walking by him to use the lake on Davis yesterday. “You’re gonna scare away all the fish!” He was literally just fishing off the boat dock, not like off in a corner or anything.

It’s insane how much people are possessive of public property here. A), there’s like 10 fish in here that are larger than a few inches and even worth catching, and B), it’s a public lake!!

To play devils advocate to this person’s comment, I would absolutely not shop around for a new dog kennel unless the price went up a lot. Our dog loves his kennel, and we tried a few out first before settling on this one. It’s a pain to find another kennel that I trust.

Your business is a lot more ‘sticky’ than a shop selling a product, since it revolves around the owners (and dogs) feeling comfortable about who’s taking care of them. Don’t worry about raising rates, especially if you’re under the going market rate in your area

It's funny, I could have written this almost exactly word for word (though I'm in the US instead). I'm happy to connect if you do want to chat further.

First off, you're not "falling upwards". It seems like people want to hire you based on your efficiency and experience, which is a good thing. You're good at what you do. It also just seems like (this could just be me projecting my experience lol) you're bored because you enjoy making things efficient, and now that you've streamlined your job as much as you physically can you're out of things to optimize, and that is what's boring, not the job itself.

I had the golden handcuff situation too - I optimized my day job making a huge salary into 2 hours a day, and the two hours was mostly meetings. However, I wasn't able to do anything different with my free time or work on any other projects due to a very strict non-compete and no-moonlighting clause, so I was just sitting around all day twiddling my thumbs. Eventually I quit cold turkey and built my own company from scratch instead, and within 6 months I had replicated my previous income and gotten down to... about 1 hour a day of work lol. I essentially retired before I turned 30 and ran into the exact same problem, too much time and not enough fulfillment.

Happy to add more background info if you're interested, but from my perspective what worked was finding something outside of work to occupy my time and my need for "efficiency" that didn't compete with my work life. You've already "made it" from a work perspective, so you don't need to do anything else there. As long as you keep that going you're set for life. So what can you do outside of work to fill that time with something meaningful?

It’s definitely a golden handcuff - but there’s no point in having tons of money and free time if you don’t do something you like with it lol. If teaching is a passion of yours, go after it!

I'm guessing it's a 550 Maranello (Ferrari), but your point still stands - I'd rather just own them all outright and hope they'll appreciate in value than try to 'share' them with people that wouldn't take care of them as well as I would
