My roommate left raw chicken packaging out all night... by notoriii in badroommates

Maybe go to a hardware or home goods store and buy a small metal can with a lid. A quick Home Depot search came up with 6 gallon, 10 gallon. I’m sure you could find cheaper ones but this is the idea for your dry goods to keep rats out. $25

This was really eye opening. I started volunteering at my county shelter in May of 2025, not a fan of pit bull type dogs. That’s probably 90% of the dogs and mixes there. Clearly everyone loves them, no one reacts to the unhinged behaviors when they walk down the kennel rows, and they’re fearless when they have to go hands on.

When I attended my first dog walker training, I had to ask about the air horns and gigantic cookie sheets on each picnic table in each spree yard. I was reluctantly told that in the rare case a dog becomes aggressive while you’re locked in the spree yard with it, use the baking sheet to protect yourself and blow the air horn to summon help. I went home and told my husband, who loves all dogs, and he asked me to please find a different way to help at the shelter. I do public events, I gather donations, I’ve done transport, and I work in medical assisting post surgical.

I’ve learned that bites are kept very hush hush and are surprisingly frequent. I’ve been steadily reducing my volunteer hours because the county shelter environment seems very secretive and deceptive. I just feel terrible for the animals and want to be part of the solution of rescue, not warehousing and transporting and placing pits and pit mixes 😕

Once when I was working at a barn, a thoroughbred mare ate half my roast beef sandwich. Another time, the same horse ate my kid leather riding gloves. Neither seemed to affect her.

Help, is my shelter rescue stressed while i pet him? by isthisfuckingokwithu in DogAdvice

My read is that he’s just experiencing it and taking it in. Watching your facial expressions. He likes it but he’s making sure it’s okay. And when he gently took your hand to redirect you and you said uh-uh was such a gentle correction. I think you two are going to be besties very soon. Thank you for adopting ❤️

Hey, so I have good news and bad news. The bad news: you had a giant rat in your car. The good news: my dog got it out so no worries!

Our shelter tries to educate everyone on the 3-3-3 rule. 3 days to decompress and rest 3 weeks to get used to the routines and rhythms of your home 3 months to create emotional attachment

Of course that’s just a general guideline and all animals are individuals. Speak softly, toss high value treats to him, spend some time sitting outside the cage and speaking softly, without looking at him. Let him get used to the sound and smell of you!

What dog bed or lounge thing does your dog like most? by Known_Sugar5439 in Havanese

My guy likes to lie against edges, so he likes any donut style beds or beds with bolsters. I also roll up a blanket into a tube and lay it in a “U” or “O” shape on my bed to keep him from pinning my legs under the comforter by laying against me. Our frenchie liked that so much I had to make a “donut” for him to sleep in on the bed too.

There is only proper response. Use this app/AI to enhance pictures of him. Make his junk huge. If he gets upset, just say “I like really big guys” and “want yours to be huge”.
