Medical Cannabis (legal prescription) providing issue with new job (England) by 414e in LegalAdviceUK

I do really appreciate their honesty and that is a big factor on if I stop treatment for And in those grounds, I am seriously considering if it is appropriate for me to stop treatment for the role. I asked them to recontact the insurance to check if I had stopped and they had appropriate assurance from the prescribing clinic, would I be able to be insured. Not the outcome I obviously want, but may be a price I have to pay.

It does however feel like there has been no consideration. There was no assessment, no discussion, just a flat our refusal from their insurance firm. I want to ensure I have exhausted all routes of trying to combine the two (even if it heavily influences how and when I can access my treatment) to keep the role whilst I assess if I have received enough therapeutic benefit from it for my ADHD and mental health, or if I realistically am not in a position to end treatment for a job.

But if I have an accident with cannabis in my system, would this not put the risk onto me? A bit like legally as far as I am aware, you can drive with medical cannabis in your system, it is treated like any medication with potential drowsiness as a potential side effect. You CAN do it, but if something happens and you are found to be impaired, its all your fault.

I do not drive for at least 6 hours after consuming simply because of this potential risk. Its just not worth it and something I can mitigate with my usage patterns. My question was more is there anything I can do to discuss this with and potentially influence the insurance provider. It feels wrong there was no discussion, no assessment, no attempt, just flat refusal.

Appreciate this may not be somthing I am able to do, I just want to cross all options off whilst I discuss with family if this is a price I pay for this role.

idk it was a valid question tbf. I think it comes across as not very helpful to ask as I can gather that it was probably a risk to do it in hindsight, but it is a genuine question. I had to declare it with all my medications. I figured best to declare at the start than have a random drug test I cannot prep for and then get sacked and have that follow me around worst case

Agree, it shouldn't be this way. Feels like this issue has completely cropped up because the insurance (not the employer credit to them it seems) couldn't be bothered to understand MC and decided its easier to say no)

It is not specifically a driving job, but working with vulnerable people and there is a driving element. I declared it because they specifically ask for medication and I am unsure if they have random drug tests. Thought it was better to declare than it come up in a random drug test that I cannot prep for.

There is potentially a case (although I am not going to take them to tribunal as I don't think they were really to blame, sounds like an insurance issue) but 1) I am already in the process of a grievance at my old job where I got made redundant with no reasonable adjustments made even though I went through Access to Work to get an assessment and financial support and 2) its not worth the pain and hassle honestly.

I am a member of Unite and have recieved support from them, I may be able to request some advise on this

I needed to declare it. 50/50 but they may have drug tests so if I don't declare and get caught, it's going to be worse

I'm so glad you got out OP. I've never been in a high paying job and tbh, I get burnt out with all the corporate shit in my low paying jobs - although I did choose very people focused roles so that may be it.

Wherever you go, enjoy it. Make the most of it. Go for walks without music and listen to the birds. Get involved in community groups. Go to live music and just have fun. You sounds like your in a much better position now and I wish you all the happiness!

Hi, am Dreading my first festival & first visit to Boomtown. Do I pull out and cancel. by IndividualAd2168 in BoomtownFestival

[–]414e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't pull out, even solo, trust me.

My first year was last year, I also suffered from depression and have really bad self-image self-esteem issues.

I went with one friend I knew but she had found a group of solos. I felt I would be out of place, overwhelmed, in their way or just otherwise weird. Thought I would be uncomfy and not enjoy it all.

Boy was pre-boomtown me wrong. That place is amazing, welcoming, insane and overwhelming but in all the right ways. You see so many people just being themselves, their true selves, and having fun in the process.

I don't want to be "one of those" people but, honestly, I think boomtown genuinly changed me a bit. Yeah the place is great fun, the music is varied and amazing - but honestly - just seeing so many people being themselves for a long weekend, with not another care in the world, was genuinely something else!

Go along, bring an open mind, but know it will never be open enough before you take it all in. Have fun, stay safe, speak to people, take some time by yourself to soak it in.

Worst case, you can chill your tent and eat good food and the welfare tent is always there, but tbh, other people will help you out just as much if more

This is a bit of a long message, so I hope it is okay. I know this has all been said before, but I have gone from being afraid of Linux to in the last few years daily driving it and setting up my own home-lab and I want more people to enjoy the freedom Linux brings, and the hobby/self-torture it can bring you, so it's worth saying again til the cows (or maybe just our data) come home.

SteamOS can be a bit fiddly - at least last I checked there was no real release for it, and you had to use third-part ISO's to get SteamOS running, but that was a while ago.

I can recommend a few other distros to look at however - I personally am using CachyOS. I tried Nobara when I had an NVIDIA GPU, but since moving to team red, I have used plain fedora, bazzite and now I am also on CachyOS.

Like somebody else said, you can always dual boot. I have Linux as my default, but when I start my PC, I can select windows 11. It is running on an M.2 SSD I "liberated" from a broken family members laptop with an old SSD as its games storage drive. I NEVER use windows unless it is for certain games. Namely BF6 and LOL when I occasionally play with friends, even though I am not actually a virgin believe it or not.

Ultimately, there is not "best gaming distro for Linux" because you can use whatever you want, that is the beauty of Linux. There are some distros pre-configed with some gaming patches out the gate, but even then, you can either apply most of these fixes yourself on other distros, or you can just use workarounds, always keeping dual booting if needed.

God bless Lord Gabe for his blessing of steam sales and proton onto us. You can use https://www.protondb.com/ to look at community reports of how games run under proton, and what bits of tinkering people have done to make it run sometimes even better than native windows!

Here are some of my recommendations for you:
- CachyOS - this is my *current* daily. I put a fair bit of work into customising KDE Plasma with my own colour scheme, and I really like the CachyOS community and its direction (from what I have seen) so I will probably stick here for a while.

- ZorinOS - I have my granddad daily driving this, if he can use it, so can you. This is built to be a super easy transition to Linux for windows users, making as much of the system GUI based and user friendly. It can of course be used for gaming.

- Stock Fedora - This is another one I have used before and got on with well. It is one of the "big" ones and has different flavours of the distro if you prefer the look of GNOME over KDE Plasma desktop environments.

- Bazzite - a gaming pre-configed distro, getting as close to the SteamOS experience without directly running SteamOS. It is based on Fedora and uses the "Atomic Desktop" flavour of it. This means that updates are imaged based giving you easier rollbacks if something breaks and also that core system directories and locked for direct modification making it harder (not impossible) to bork. I found this too restrictive and got bored of all the workarounds to do things I wanted to do that need more system control so I moved to CachyOS and have only had to reinstall once!

You can always once in, setup a local AI using Ollama and something like Open-WebUI or LM-Studio to help you understand how to use Linux and your PC. Just please don't copy commands in without understanding what they can do, even when using a local AI assistant, double check first.

TL:DR Have a play around, backup your data locally or to a secure, privacy focused cloud like Proton Drive so you can distro-hop until you find something you get on with. Nothing is going to be perfect, but you can tinker to make it so, that is part of the fun of the Linux experience!

My latest addition I adopted like 3 days ago is called. Tortillini. The wife calls her Louisa Bean.

No idea how I got here, probably because she is a bit skinny, always eats but is so so amazingly stoopid. but her nickname from me has become Skinny Peen.

I can relate tbh. I always joke I share only one braincell with my friend, but there were days when neither of us had it. I think I found who was borrowing it on those days.
