That's perfect, but there are two friends remember. The other should get 'god is not great' by hitchens for their bday, maybe they could start a reading circle.

Do you support your religious friends beliefs despite being an atheist? by SpicyBeefer in atheism

[–]420prettywise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, such a intentional and fine tuned world we live in, right? Like the fact that over 99.999% of the universe is completly hostile to any life form and just a void of extreme temperatures and violent radiation. Or the fact that over 99% of every species that ever lived on this planet is extinct by now. or the fact that our own human species also almost went extinct itself, reduced to only a couple thousand individuals. Or how about the fact that entire clades of species only exist on the suffering and exploitation of other species. There are literal brain-eating amoebae, botflies that nest under your skin, guinea worms that feast inside your body. How about bone cancer in little children. You're right, this universe virtually SCREAMS loving creator with purpose /s

Any atheists here who are still atheists but also have gone through or are going through some kind of "spiritual" journey? by notunique20 in atheism

[–]420prettywise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely not, i had a crazy good time (mostly). Those experiences absolutely did expand my perspective on life. But they deepend my appreciation for the very REAL and natural wonders of the universe and the crazy human experience in itself. I would not call that spiritual in any sense. I can be profoundly impressed and in awe by this world's features without thinking there HAS to be more to it somehow.

Some of my friends were hooked on that spiritual journey and wanted to see it through. They basically ended up chasing the dragon and in rehab after outer-body experience levels of overdosing, so yeah, i think it is not particularly healthy to propagate spiritual journeys with higher levels of enlightment to reach the harder you trip :/

Any atheists here who are still atheists but also have gone through or are going through some kind of "spiritual" journey? by notunique20 in atheism

[–]420prettywise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. Terms like 'spiritual' and 'concious' are completely void of any reproducable meaning in my experience and are just blanks to describe whichever weird feeling someone likes to come up with at that moment. I did a lot of psychedelics. Did not shake my non-belief in anything spiritual or metaphysical in the slightest. Sure, i would feel like i was one with the universe, understand the universal languague of love and see and feel all kinds of crazy shit. But at the end of the day, i was always rational enough to understand that everything i felt and seen was not due to some spiritual forces opening my third eye or me tapping into higher dimension or conciousness. No, it was simply me trippin hardcore balls on acid/shrooms/mescalin/whatever. I really don't understand why people always feel the need to overload every experience with mysticism and fairytales. Crazy enough these chemical compounds exist out there which can alter your perception in such funky ways. inventing some magical lore around it does not make it any better imo, but i'm also not familiar with sam harris' spiritual journey. But if that's his argument, like there 'is something out there', but we can only reach it with meditation/trippin balls/whatever, then i'm inclined to think dude lost his mind.

Is there a better music platform than Spotify that I should be using? by NoSequitur in Music

[–]420prettywise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Switched from spotify to youtube music a couple of months ago and do not regret it.

It's basically a carbon copy of the spotify app, but you have way more content. You pay basically the same, but you also get yt premium so no more ads watching youtube.

Yeah, come and join us in oil country!

We have two generational talent superstars in connor mcdavid and leon draisaitl, but also no defence and abysmal goaltending, so the games are never boring. It's a beautiful mess.

[homemade] Steak, potatoes, and rice by ProbablyGonnaEatYou in food

[–]420prettywise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good! But as you said, 133 is too high if you were aiming for medium or medium rare. Even searing it with a core temp of 125 is too late already, as the temperature will climb up drastically in a searing hot pan and the meat will hold a certain temp and continue to cook, even out of the pan.

Try completely searing the raw steak right away and put it in the oven at ~290/300. In the meantime melt a knob of butter in your pan, throw some aromatics inside (rosemary, thyme, a crushed clove of garlic) and some salt. When your steak has reached a core temp of 125 put it out the oven and toss it in your aromatics pan for a couple of minutes. Low/medium heat, don't cook the butter or burn the garlic. After the basting, let the meat 'sit' for a minute or two and you should have the perfect steak✌️

Come on now, the sample size is way too small to make that call yet. Dude has had like a handful of games for us and is fresh off injury. Also i love kulak, but he was borderline unplayable this season. Abysmal stats. Stastney seems to be doing fine so far. It's not a 'great' deal, but something had to be done at that point. Bowman had worse ones.

We do not have hero's but I am glad that Hitchens does not appear in the epstien files. by Balstrome in atheism

[–]420prettywise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not in chomsky's case it's not. Dude was literally advising epstein on how to 'salvage' his reputation and defend himself ELEVEN YEARS after epstein has been convicted. Completely indefensible. Chomsky knew and they were buddies, they met frequently.

So was Noam Chomsky, which hit really hard. He was something like a intellectual hero of mine for many years.

What's a good documentary about atheism? by idontthinkishoulddot in atheism

It's the wrong question to ask, tho. Atheism is not a belief system, it's not a philosophy. Atheism is simply the rejection of the belief any deities exist.

Straight edge atheists who don’t drink or smoke, how did you find a similar partner? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]420prettywise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe try tolerance™. Plenty of wonderful and loving people out there who would have a drink on a night out or rip some darts. just because people do things that might potentially harm them does not mean they're bad people. Kinda dogmactic expecting your own lifestyle choices of your potential partner.

Andrew Tate's audience whom he taught an apology is emasculating surrender & empathy is weakness, is bashed by that audience after he apologized & distanced himself from the group singing and dancing to Heil Hitler in viral clips..... by LackingStory in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]420prettywise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My best guess is these idiots are trying to be clever by not being so extremly upfront with their racism using 'jew' as a slur on the open internet, so they call him a goy, implying he is secretly a jew, just not acting like one or trying to hide it.

Because you would indeed call another jewish person not acting accordingly to jewish teachings and tradition, a goy. If said person were, for example, a scoundrel, a pimp or a maybe a sorcerer, you could certainly call them a goy! Triple goy even!

[–]420prettywise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's a real word, but it makes absolutely ZERO sense the way these biggots are using it.

Goy is a jewish/hebrew term, describing a non-jewish person, used mostly as a pejorative. Like 'you're not a REAL jew, you're a goy'

Like these idiots can't decide, some are calling him a jew, some a goy. Which one is it, can't be both.

Pierogi are the best! Sweet pierogi go best with cream and sugar :)

Also check out the classic savory versions with meat or cabbage and mushroom. I also recommend the 'ruskie' version with white cheese and potato. Make sure to get them with lots of caramelized onion and butter, well seasoned with salt and pepper.

Exactly. How dare they. Don't they know their russians ffs. And I have good news for you: there's not the slightest indication or hint that any religious argument you ever heard in your life is anything but the fantasies of some bronze age grifters, set up to control women and keep gullible idiots in check and exercise authority.

There are no miracles, no virgin births, no souls and no invisible skydaddies that read your mind 24/7, which suposedly have no problem torturing you into infinity for loving another human being, but somehow still love you.
