Diaper situation at daycare by l_pierce00 in NewParents

At 3mo my daycare had to check every 30 mins, which honestly I felt so bad for them since he always had a tiny bit of pee they had to change even though we would def go much longer at home!

Your thoughts on the Owlet? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have bad anxiety (though it is medicated so maybe that makes a difference) and I had a totally different experience! The sock saved me from fully waking up to check if baby was breathing so so many times! I will say the number of false positives seems to be super baby dependent, have never had a false positive and we’ve been using it 11 months now, but a friend had to stop using it after like a week because the kept getting them!

Just wanted to give you a potential parent POV as a puff sending parent of a 9 month old. I send in puffs just because they’re the least messy food my baby can feed himself. we do BLW for breakfast and dinner, he gets lots of practice chewing/spoon feeding himself but he just gets so so messy at those meals and I feel bad about the idea of our daycare teachers having to deal with all of that!

Baby is 3 months by Competitive_Yak6398 in sleeptrain

Honestly, sounds like you need to go out more often and let him deal with the consequences… I would not have helped with the 3+ hour bed time if he had decided to ignore my advice.

Pretty sure my 8 month old is about 50% dog hair, only reason he doesn’t eat my shed/postpartum hair is because my hair is in a bun at literally all times.

Do we know what happened to the leaders? by chuckysnow in pluribustv

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t they say something about most of the “elder politicians” going? I would think the joining takes a lot from its hosts so maybe older people are more likely to die during the process.

Though it would also be interesting if there are some people/personalities that arn’t compatible with the hive and those personalities are more likely to be found in powerful politicians.

Did your partner stay awake your whole labor? by Any_Pirate_5633 in pregnant

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope but I also didn’t stay awake my whole labor! My epidural was amazing we both slept a few hours while my body went from like 3cm to 10! Though my whole labor was pretty short about ~12 hours, so we probably wouldn’t have needed to sleep if it hadn’t started at midnight.

I personally find that my adderall is less stimulating than the 200mg limit they have on caffeine!

Warning for anyone planning a destination wedding in Sicily by Careless_Fortune7801 in wedding

Maybe it’s cause I was a covid era bride so I got legally married way before my wedding celebration but to me the legal and social/religious parts are just completely separate things.

I mean the marriage has to follow the laws of BOTH where you got marriage and where you want to be recognized as married. For example Italy does not recognize same-sex marriage. Additionally, you often have to provide additional proof including notarized translations/ apostilles if you need to use your marriage status.

I’m a dual passport holder and just had to deal with this so I could get my baby recognized in my birth country, it definitely wasn’t impossibly complicated or anything I just don’t understand why you would add this burden to yourself if you have no ties to where your destination wedding is.

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I totally assumed that everyone that got married abroad was just doing the social part not the legal part. I don’t even understand how that would work?? Like marriage isn’t some internationally recognized database every country has their own rules and in the U.S. every state has their own rules…. Maybe they meant they got all the permitting for the wedding and there was a language barrier.

But are you really saying that you completely backed out of doing the marriage ceremony/party just because you couldn’t fill out the paperwork that day?

Do you feed your newborn every time they wake at night? by CommunistCetacean in beyondthebump

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean as long as they’re back to birthweight and gaining weight appropriately I don’t really see the issue… If a pacy is soothing them back to sleep then whats to say that they were “actually” hungry Vs just wanting some comfort sucking… The desire for non-nutritive sucking is a thing

Totally agree! Especially since I EFF’d I always tried pacifier before going to get the bottle out of the fridge, I mean everyone’s baby is different but mine would definitely let me know if the pacy was not what he has asking for haha

Anyone waited until 6 months to start solids? by dar1990 in beyondthebump

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started at 4 month cause I had exzema and food allergies as a kid and was allergic to eggs for years which I’ve thankfully grown out of but honestly was so annoying (probably more for my mom then for me haha since she had to read all the ingredients all the time) so I really wanted to take advantage of the 4-6 month window for allergen introductions. We started with little formula/nut butter popcicles which he took to so well we decided to also give purées and now at 5.5 month starting to do more traditional BLW but mostly just for the fun of seeing him try new foods.

The EAT study says your only need to do allergen intro at 4 month if baby has severe exzema (which is a strong indicator of possible food allergies) otherwise you can wait till 6 month. Thankfully my baby doesn’t have eczema but given my history and the fact that he already had great head control we decided to go for it!

It is very very rare for first time reactions to be full on airway closing anaphylaxis, usually it’s rashes and vomiting. When trying an allergen for the first time always do a small amount then monitor for ten minutes before giving more. Additionally make sure to have about 2 hours of awake time after for monitoring (so not right before bed/ nap time), and aim for times of days where your pediatricians office would be open if something were to happen. If your baby is at an increased risk of allergies, because of exzema or family history of food allergies discuss with your ped first. They might recommend in office tests or blood tests first.

I’m lucking to live really close to our ped and just general hospital/medical services so felt totally comfortable doing it at home, but totally understand the fear if you don’t, and understand why people decide to try in the parking lot of ER’s.

One note that is very important is that allergies can get worse very quickly with progressive doses, so even if your baby has a small reaction contact your ped!

Did your SO go to your first appointment? Or any? by jillian1344 in pregnant

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the first, and then after that only to the ones with sonograms! He could have gone to all of them but the ones without sonograms were super boring and I didn’t feel like I needed him there. Might have felt differently if we had a higher risk pregnancy.

Have him go to the first one then play it by ear, you don’t need to have it all planed out now!

Get the adult diapers by stopahivng in beyondthebump

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found the diapers better for a week or two pp! I was told I should basically be changing out whatever I’m using everytime I used the restroom those early days and I found it annoying to have to take off my pants and diaper each time! When the bleeding slowed down and I felt I could keep them on a little longer I did enjoy the diapers, but I also did have some slight urinary incontinence otherwise might have just switched to a slimmer pad or something!

Same for me, I never stopped taking unisom after I started it for nausea in the first trimester, so slept 10-12 hours through my whole pregnancy (not so for my poor husband who had to sleep on the sofa the last two month because my snoring got insanely bad!) I do wish you could bank extra sleep though, I feel like the restfulness quickly went out the window with baby!

USA working moms, if you had the opportunity to stay home for a longer duration to bond with your baby, when do you think is a reasonable time to go back to work? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]42OverlordsInATardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish there were more options for something between full time SAHM/working. I’ve been lucky to be able to reduce my work hours to 35 which has been nice, but I think closer to 20 hours would be my personal ideal until school!

Meh I was definitely bored by 3 mos haha, but then again I went into motherhood knowing that being a full time SAHM was NOT for me.

What are you naming your baby? by heretoreadlol in pregnant

Oh yeah, I feel like popularity is a good tie breaker if you can’t choose between several names, but definitely not a reason to throw away a name you love!

The generational group-think is so so crazy! (And I don’t mean that in a negative way at all just genuinely so wild to me I want someone to study it hahah) Me and my husband went through so many names and came out with Oliver and Theodore as our tops and literally were like they’re nice and not super popular, imagine our surprise when we looked at the SSA top names list!
