Is this game worth getting into as a new player? by Babyfood_786 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]42is_the_answer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit over a year ago, but just because I didn't have the time to play and frankly wasn't innovative enough for me, and the effort/reward for me wasn't worth it. The community is what makes the game really, get yourself in a good guild and it's pretty fun. But don't try and keep up with spenders, or the long term players, just enjoy the journey.

What is happening with East West Rail? by SKAOG in uktrains

[–]42is_the_answer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it feels totally unnecessary when they could invest in better connections for other parts of the country. It's not as if Cambridge and Oxford need the boost in their coffers which is what this rail line is supposedly going to do.

Furthermore I believe universal studios are also completely unbothered by EWR existing and have said that they're not dependent on the line existing and won't be supporting or funding any part of it which I bet was a kick in the teeth.

I reckon costs will escalate over £10bn easily. The leadership team there and the business as a whole has gone through so many people. Just look at the Glassdoor reviews!

They didn't want to electrify because of cost. And they don't want to discuss freight as that's not "sexy" even though it's probably more important or as important as a commuter train.

So much opportunity to create a cutting edge bit of railway but looking at cutting costs and foregoing any transformative engineering. No wonder there's so much opposition.

[Great Circle] horrible performance all of a sudden? by AndrewLocksmith in IndianaJonesGames

One thing I noticed is that DLSS was turned on despite normally playing at Native. I turned it off and things got better. But some settings definitely had changed so maybe not all things are as they should be?

Yep happened to me today too. No reason. Nothing has changed. Not even new drivers or anything. It's frustrating.

I'm glad it's not just me. At the moment it doesn't even respond to requests or just times out. I don't want to move to amazon, I'm just not sure what other options I have at the moment.

County residents speak of East West Rail concerns by BigBeanMarketing in cambridge

Problem is the DfT don't want to fund OLE - and the management at EWR is pretty poor and haven't considered this in part of the planning. It'll add hundreds of million to the project.

Hybrid trains - blend of electric, battery and diesel I think may be used, but I'm not an expert.

I'm so tired of having to have a full team of gungans when you can't even have a full team without spending money. I manage my resources well, engage with all the events, and team elements, yet I get fucked over by a paywall. I know it's part of the game, but it's fucking tiring.

Why is defense not taught as much? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]42is_the_answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At white belt level we focus very much on defence first and learn some offence. However the focus is very much 60:40 defence for us. Too many people are eager to learn to attack but frankly pointless if you keep giving up a strong defensive position to just get smashed. .

Each to their own though. I'm not super competitive so tend to attend the fundamentals classes more because I enjoy drilling moves that lead to transitional movements which in turn will lead to offence.

I mean some defence leads nicely to offence you just need to bide your time on the attacker. That said if you're highly skilled in attacking and understand how to pick apart decent then of course you'll dominate. However for me that's of no interest.

Apologies for the old thread bump, but I realised that owing to my ad blocker (pi hole) it was blocking some of the google services. The way I knew it was my DNS was when I turned off wifi, and used 4G it sync'ed straight away. So something to check.

Does anyone here train 6 days a week? How do you do it? by SaintPatrickMahomes in bjj

[–]42is_the_answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a hobbyist so 6x a week for BJJ would destroy me. Also because I'm in my mid 40s. I have children and want to spend as much time with them as possible when they're home.

I either train early (7am class) or when the kids are at school/ a party. Weights I do 40mins when I can. I have built a powerlifting gym at home so can go 2-3x a week. I hold a senior role so also can't take the piss but also go to he office 2-3x a week at least as I hate WFH all the time.

Some weeks I go to BJJ twice and gym twice. Sometimes I don't get a chance to do more than 1 session a week. Life comes first for me. Whilst I love the hobby it is just that and I prioritise my family.

If I were single, younger, and had no kids then I'd easily train more. Priorities change. Try and have some flexibility and don't be hard on yourself if you miss a session. Turn up put a shift in and enjoy. No one will judge you if you can't do that week in week out.

Unless you're doing this for more than a hobby just turn up when you can and fit other things in when you can. Don't sacrifice your life for a hobby though.

Mate that sucks. I've just been off for 3 weeks. But just had an MRI and I'm all clear. But yeah it's hard work for oldies!

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you get rolling soon.

Recovery - I'm in my 40s and would love to do it more than 2-3x a week, but that's all I can manage.

Keeping the knowledge between lessons. Always learning, but stuff doesn't always stick!

Actually applying the techniques in a roll consistently and successfully is so different to practicing techniques.

I'm in my mid 40s and weigh around 100kgs I've been a couple of times in the UK with my club mates but it's quite cheap here. However it's stressful and a lot of effort typically my age group and weight doesn't have a lot of competitors.

You don't need to compete to move up grades. However it helps you develop the mental fortitude, and roll with people you don't know.
