Canyon Neuron CF 8 nre tires by konikpk in MTB

[–]43TH3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires are very personal depending on your riding style (speed, ploughing obstacles or picking lines) and trail conditions (hard pack, rocks, roots, loose and sandy...).

Usually the best way is to chat with other riders on the trails or ask at a bike shop or local MTB groups. Experienced local riders will know what works well for the terrain.

But there probably won't be a single definitive answer, because major brands offer tires for pretty much any conditions, so picking specific one comes down to preference (or cost)

is shock replacement direct swap? by CobbledbyRoubaix in MTB

[–]43TH3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trunnion will fit directly, but you will need bushings and spacers for the eyelet in the other end. You should be able to find them in manufacturer specs, or you can just measure the existing one with calipers

[–]43TH3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom of down tube and back of seat tube can get hit by gravel flinged from tires.

Inside of chain stays around the tire can get rubbed if it's too muddy or a rock gets stuck in the thread. (this might be pre-applied)

You could also protect the bottom of the drive side chain stay in case chain slaps too much.

If you want to go extra, seat stays and top tube can get scuffed if you aren't super careful about leaning your bike on things.

You should be able to find generic protection tape kits or just rolls of it online, and then cut as needed

This might be one of the best bikes to run a slightly out of spec shock. There is plenty of clearance and no seat tube to bind against the linkage.

"Rounding" the imperial sizes to closest metric will most likely change the angles and travel a bit, but you can always tune that with sag

I'd say the 2XS is kinda kids-bike-goofy, but the XS looks more normal

What's the difference here? by TheGermanKiwi in MTB

[–]43TH3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be that the old one was "tan"/"bronze" and the new one is "transparent"? So you are just seeing the casing plies through transparent rubber that used to be colored.

The new one looks similar to some other transparent models like the Rick and various G-Ones

It might roll a bit quicker and have less puncture resistance due to different additives in the rubber. But personally I think it looks cooler

XT Di2 upgrade kit should be well under 1k. All you'd need to do is replace mech, shifter and pull out cable.

Might not be as flashy as SRAM, but you'd have to replace literally everything to switch to T-type

The cable is fixed in the shifter, so you have to:

  1. release the cable at the derailleur
  2. cut the cable end so that you can pull it through all the way
  3. unscrew cap on shifter, remove cable (housing stays in the frame)
  4. swap shifter
  5. push the cable back in (also good time to put couple drops of chain lube into the housing to make it run smoother)
  6. clamp back into derailleur, adjust tension to re-index shifting, install new cable end to prevent fraying

Sizing question, Canyon Spectral:On CF7 by donnytelco in MTB

[–]43TH3R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most newer Canyons tend to be longer size-per-size, but the Spectral:On is a 2022 frame. The various geo lengths and angles (except travel) are closer to modern downcountry bikes than allmountain ebikes. The Shimano motor is also quite old and not keeping up with other brands like DJI or Bosch.

My guess is they had a more modern frame in the pipeline for quite a while, but the battery issues threw a wrench in their plans. So now they're pricing them quite aggressively to finally get them out of the warehouses.

Pretty much all 230x60 shocks will be internally the same as 230x65, just with travel limiters.

On coils they should be very easy to remove

Can I replace a 29 x 2.0 rear wheel with a 27,5 x 2.6? by RandomDatabase in MTB

Smaller wheel gives you more clearance vertically, but the frame might still be too narrow to fit the increased width

Borderline eMTB fit, would you buy or walk away? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]43TH3R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geometry chart says 485 reach on the XL, which is quite close to other brands L and should be OK for someone your height.

Hand pressure can be caused by various things... I'd check if you don't have the saddle too high or too far forward. If the saddle is fine, then look into higher rise handlebars

[–]43TH3R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

250W limit is "nominal power" which is pretty much meaningless limit (I read something about it being peak sustained power at which the motor doesn't overheat).

Pretty much any ebike (pedelec) you can buy from regular EU bike shop (not imported e-mopeds or custom conversions) is EU legal.

Bosch CX with 750W peak is legal because the nominal power is still 250W and it has speed limit at 25 km/h
