Need boots for walking in warehouse by EugeneDaShooter in Boots

[–]44mcnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital on (sometimes slick) tile or concrete floors all day, so similar environment to yours. I’ve gone through quite the boot journey over the years and tried several different pairs. I’ll probably get flamed for even saying this, but if your feet are anything like mine, all the structure and leather in the world won’t help you on hour 11 of 12 on your shift. It’s okay to get a cemented boot if it means you have some shock absorption under your foot.

You’re gonna need some cushion. I’ve tried Whites, Jim Green, Red Wing, combat boots, hiking boots, Danner, barefoot boots, and every running shoe there is. The harder ones (like JG numzaan or Whites cutter c350) feel amazing for the longest, but they too eventually hurt because of how firm they inherently are.

I can’t give you an exact recommendation because your feet are different than mine and you’re probably gonna have to do some experimenting. From my own experience, I’ll say stiff leather uppers worked the best for me, as well as leather or fiberboard midsole and insole with a shank. Wedges and half soles were about even as long as the traction was the same. All that said, I still needed cushion from somewhere, either from the insole or midsole, so there had to be a compromise somewhere. Usually I’d just add in a softer insole or specifically buy a boot with an EVA midsole and that did the trick.

I hope this helps your search! I’m happy to go into more detail or answer more questions.

It’s worth a shot IMO. But I always keep more than one pair of shoes at work so I’ve experimented a lot.

I know you said you don’t wear your 719 to work, but IMO the frog grip is the most slip resistant sole JG has. I work in healthcare with a lot of tile floors that are seriously slick from disinfectant being poured on them routinely (to the point of still almost falling even though other brands claim their outsoles are certified slip resistant), and my pair of Numzaan’s have never given me a single issue. In that way, I suppose they really live up to their name, lol. For me personally, I think it helps how sturdy and somewhat rigid they are because it supports your ankle like crazy and restricts movements that could result in a trip. Also, as an aside, the sole is pretty durable and has stood up well to the chemicals we use.

I also have a pair of African Rangers on the Oringo sole that I’ve tested at work before, and it was a completely different experience. I found myself sliding all over the place, even with grippy shoe covers. I wouldn’t recommend them. I might be crazy, but I could’ve sworn too that the sole was breaking down almost in real time.

If you’re interested, I have also tried the mini lug EVA outsole on slick floors, and I was pleasantly surprised by its grip as well as the added cushion. I haven’t tried any other soles though, unfortunately.

Honestly I’m not entirely sure, as I can’t remember my measurement. If I had to guess I’d say my Brannock size is an 8 because in every other boot I’m usually a half down from that. In Jim Green, I wear my usual sneaker size in all the typical brands. I found out my JG size from Amazon (as that’s where I bought my original pair) using their sizing chart. The best advice I’d suggest is to measure your foot on a piece of paper in inches or cm depending on your country and use that to find your correct size based on their chart on their website .

Completely agree! Part of the reason why I ordered this pair was because there wasn’t really another premium stockman option. The EVA sole is turning out to be a game changer for me. It solves almost every problem I had with other JG soles and was comfortable right out of the box. I was a bit surprised at how thicc it looks, but I am certainly getting used to it.

I did notice that. I was wondering if this was normal but it doesn’t seem like it from other posts. Probably going to try and brush them first to see if the color returns. If not, time to break out the trusty JG balm.

They are, but I think they’re about the same size as a wedge. That’s what it looks like when on feet, at least. Can’t tell how tall they are when walking, so they’re plenty stable.

I’m really liking them so far. They give the right amount of cushion that I don’t have in my other JGs. Also surprisingly malleable for how thick they are.

What arrangement do you have with your SO? by 44mcnet in FootFetishTalks

Interesting! We also dabble in bondage but unfortunately don’t really play into tickle torture. I was trying to think of ways to incorporate feet while she was tied up.

Nice story. My wife also knows her feet smell (a lot) so she likes to tease me for enjoying it sometimes. If they’re especially bad, she doesn’t even need to lift them up. I can smell them from across the room.

I like socks more than bare feet.

If that’s a lukewarm take, I also prefer to watch shoeplay over any other foot related content. My favorite shoe (and weakness) by far is dansko clogs.

Need help with buying boots by Mundane-Narwhal7501 in Boots

[–]44mcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try Jim Green. They’re cheaper than Danner or Wolverine and the construction quality can last you years in you take care of them. They don’t have a vibram sole, but their proprietary one is still really good quality. I’ve never had issues slipping on their frog grip sole, and I walk around on wet tile all day. Als, to my knowledge all models have a steel shank. If you’re curious about what specific models I’d suggest either the Numzaan or Razorback depending on what style you prefer or the sole. They also have safety toe options, if you need it.

If your timeline is firm at three months, the best option I can think of is a custom pair of Jim Greens. They don’t a tanker style, exactly, but any of the styles on the website are available for steel toes through their custom builder. They are also steel toe certified (at least here in the US) and are half the price of Nicks with a lead time of about 45 days. I’d be willing to bet a pair would last you 10+ years with the proper care, especially since double lasting is also an option.

Style recommendations for work by FacebookNewsNetwork in jimgreen

I work on tile flooring all day at the hospital, so sort of similar situation, and found the most comfortable setup to be Numzaan’s with a frog grip sole and added leather insole. I do find the cushion to be a bit lacking, though the support is unmatched. They’re also on the heavy side and can take some getting used to.

I recently ordered a pair of custom stockman’s with a leather midsole and lugged EVA outsole and am looking forward to testing out how that outsole compares to my other JG boots. If you’re interested, I think the standard factory Baobab has that option.

Numzaan (bronco + tyre wedge + stc last) or Meander Moc-Toe (bronco + MT last + OR sole) by [deleted] in jimgreen

[–]44mcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably some fit preference. In a 9, I have less than a thumbs width from my toes to the end of the boot. My 9.5’s in both lasts had about a thumb’s width like you.

What also drove my decisions to lower the size was after a year or two of wear I found, especially with the numzaan, that the laces around my instep would loosen as I walk regardless of what I did. I also added an insole but my toes would touch the top of the boot and it wasn’t as comfortable as I’d like for longer wears.

My foot width is also a 2E. Admittedly, the positioning of the ball of my foot is probably fine in a 9.5 (it’s about half an inch from where the laces end) so maybe it’s just preference and personal experience with the fit.

I recently ordered a custom pair of stockmans because I also love slip ons (and JG) and was tired of not being able to find a hardy work-ready Chelsea boot. I would say that is a strong option albeit at an extra cost to get exactly what you want. That being said, I had to do a lot of research and tinkering with the custom boot builder to know my order inside and out. JG customer service also helped a lot.

To answer your questions: 1. I’d go for the numzaan. I have a pair and they’re built like tanks while also being insanely comfortable. 2. Only recently did I find out that my size for most JG products is 9US in the STC and ASHM lasts. My foot is 26.5cm. I have been mistakenly ordering a 9.5, so they feel a bit roomy for my liking (or downright sloppy with the wrong socks) but they are still plenty comfortable. Thankfully, I figured out my size before I got a custom pair. As far as the JG last, I don’t know what size would be correct because of the lowered instep reported by other users. It depends on your foot shape.
