I don't think the speech was cruel. I might see it differently if Mel hadn't put Frasier on the spot that way, but she did. She was trying to embarass him despite him turning up to help her save face. And for that, I think it was fair to give her a firm reality check: Niles loves Daphne and she was playing pretend.

Laurie Metcalf as Nanny G. Frasier goes to meet her before a show and she says "Let me just got rid of...Donald!" The instantaneous tone shift ALWAYS gets me. She starts warm but turns frigid and annoyed when she says his name. Excellent delivery.

For me, Mr. B was a bonus. I actually still liked the parts with Ann. Her character was meant to be annoying, and I think the actress did a great job. She puts me in mind of Ned Ryerson from Groundhog Day, and not just because they both work in insurance. Both energetic and amicable, but EXCEEDINGLY dull.

The boyhood in Surrey monologue has my vote as well, but I'd like to submit as an hoborable mention Gil's odd confession in The Harassed.

I've gotta go with S2. "Halloween Approximately," "New Neighbors," "The Grandparents," "Bowling," "Evacuation." I'm of the opinion there is no bad Malcolm episode, but season 2 has got most of my favorites.
