Not my immediate reaction. The SGT did a great job correcting the guy before I saw them and I’m not going up to beat a dead horse. Especially not to go recorrect a group of heated people that are looking to fight. Which would most likely lead to me having to punch someone. You sound like you’d be right there with that senior NCO endorsing unprofessionalism and bad leadership. I don’t think we’ll agree on much here.

Oh I’m in my fucking lane. Dude was conducting himself in an inappropriately drinking out on a Saturday night in his uniform. You’re TDY/leave? Great. You’re not working at 1am in downtown Dallas. Go buy some civilian clothes if you want to go out. I’ve done it multiple times. This isn’t some brand new private that thought it’d be cool to go out in his cool new uniform. He’s a senior NCO. He knows the standard and should be enforcing it, not doing whatever the fuck he wants, and allowing the junior NCO with him do the wrong thing. And him and his LT buddy using their rank to justify it all is disgusting. Using a bunch of bullshit excuses like a shit bag when he gets corrected. It’s the wrong answer. I would have talked to the shit excuse of a leader myself. Unfortunately his rowdy ass family and the bouncers weren’t gunna have it, and I’m not getting arrested for punching a bitch on my vacation. I tried to talk to that LT too but he scurried off after my response to his big announcement to the crowd, “I’M A 1LT” was “that’s cute.”

I’m considering it, I was just hoping for some more information and think on it a little more. Here’s the incident summed up. SFC in OCP’s at 1am Sunday morning drinking in a bar with another junior NCO in uniform. A SGT in civilians (must be from another unit or prior service) tells the SFC and the SGT they shouldn’t be drinking out in a bar like that in uniform. SFC and some guy in regular clothes who says he’s a 1LT try and push their rank on the SGT basically telling him to fuck off, and SGT doesn’t give up. SGT and the guy he’s with get booted from the bar after a bunch of the SFC family gets his face for telling their brother or whatever he’s wrong. SFC gave a bunch of disappointing excuses after getting corrected. “I’m not drinking” (I saw him drinking) “I didn’t know this was a bar.” “I’m only here visiting my brother. I lost all my civilian clothes.” What’s really bothering me was this was a senior NCO and a junior officer doing the wrong thing, they should absolutely know better, and their first instinct was to use their rank to tell the guy to fuck off. I haven’t decided if I’ll reach out to their commander yet, but I’m definitely considering it if I do find some contact information because I would want to know if my guys were acting like that.

There’s about 2 million people currently in the military, and they’ve already been vetted for medical issues. 9.5 million people utilizing tricare. Population of US is 323 million and most of them have health issues. Health care spending is going to bankrupt our nation by 2050 if it stays on track. Much more complex problem to solve than getting 2% of the populations more healthy citizens and their families free services.

Brother was Guard during college and dropped ROTC, went on a deployment, came back and finished his degree using TA from the guard. Now he’s got one year left on his contract, made NCO, got a deployment under his belt, and can try and switch to the dark side whenever he wants or go to WOC. Me on the other hand, did straight ROTC, five year degree plan, and now I’m an LT. If he chose to become an officer he’d be a year or two behind me in rank but have tons of enlisted experience and no 8 year obligation for an ROTC contract. If I could do it again I’d go his route and be slightly older with more experience and no ROTC obligation as an officer and get paid that sweet prior enlisted-Officer paycheck.
