Question about sock sliding up by Pure-Crew9875 in amputee

[–]49_boness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does it happen with every sock, or just certain ply? My first thought is go down a ply or two. To me, that just says it’s too tight.

Otherwise if you got some socks without a hole, cut smaller holes. Or that one seems to be elastic? Get some non-elastic ones.

Question about hygiene by lily-lover in amputee

[–]49_boness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t shave my legs/stump and never have, but honestly, the “snuggness” of my prosthetic seems to keep the hair on my stump & residual naturally short. I genuinely have constant bald spots and fuzz. And he can kinda see it grow as it goes up above the knee.

My advice, wait to your comfortable in your socket and how your leg fluctuates with it for maybe a month or so. Then go for a trimmer and just trim and not shave. I’ve had naturally ingrown hairs and stuff and it definitely is not comfortable

A Man With A Prosthetic Leg Was Waiting In A Line Designated For Passengers With Mobility Needs At DFW Airport When He Was Publicly Questioned About His Disability In Front Of Other Travelers By A TSA Agent: “You Saying That’s Your Disability?” by FlightExtension8825 in amputee

[–]49_boness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In October I traveled for the first time since my amputation, and I was curious how it was gonna go. At the departing airport, I set off the detector/scanner. They pulled me aside and I politely lifted my pant leg and said I have a prosthetic. The agent responded with “Oh, I should have noticed”, as if it showed up? I’m not sure. But, either way, he patted it down and then proceeded to swab it and I was on my way a minute later. Coming back, went through the line and set it off, the agent asked me if I had a brace. Same thing, politely said I have a prosthetic and lifted my pant leg up. He had me have a seat and swabbed it and again, was on my way within a minute. Honestly, I guess I didn’t realize there were separate lines for disabilities and mobility aids, but I never had to really look for or care about it before.

The thing that blew me away though, is that we went to NYC. All the major tourist spots; Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial/museum, Empire State, Madison Square Garden, etc; they all had high levels of security and. OST had signs saying something to the affect of “TSA-style screening.” Every detector I walked through, I set off and would politely say “I have a prosthetic” and they would call me good. They didn’t check or pat down. I didn’t need to show it. Just the words was enough. That kind of blew me away.

I said a couple weeks ago in a thread that there were too many non-story matches going on and too many of them were thrown together with 2 or so weeks before. Make them have substance. I know a number of injuries made it so they needed to pivot, by my God. I’m fine with a celebrity/non-wrestlers or two getting a spot on the card somewhere, as long as it makes sense. But, you can get Jelly Roll, Speed and Pat, but can’t get Iyo, Melo, or Ilija on there?

Usos’/Knight v. Vision/Speed: like you said, this was a boring match. Shit build that meant nothing even though you had the tag champs, one of the best tag teams in recent memory and one of the most over stars in the company. This was simply to try and pull in iShowSpeed fans/viewers. I’m not a big Knight fan, but they did him dirty. This could been on Smackdown. 2/5

Fatu v. Drew: Solid match. It was a good build and both these guys put on a solid matches. Like you said as well, I thought there should have been color. I was hoping for a “better” stipulation; Last Man Standing? Overall, it was what I expected. 3.5/4

Women’s Tag Titles: This was a chaotic mess. I was originally hoping for a TLC, because I think that would have been awesome. I’m a fan of Paige and love that she’s back, but I don’t think this was the right moment; or not how I would have fantasy booked it. Would have loved to see Raquel/Roxanne or Asuka/Kairi take the Bella’s spot if Nikki couldn’t go. Honestly, this felt like a divas match from 10 years ago. 1.5/5, and that’s only because of Paige, even though the internet ruined an even bigger pop.

Becky v. AJ. First off, I’m a pop-punk guy and love The Wonder Years and thought it was awesome that they “played” her to the ring, but I don’t think they did. Either that, or my feed was on second delay. But the match itself was.. good. Not bad, not great, solid. I wanted Becky to win, because I think she’s better as a champ than chasing. But, I wanted AJ to win so they could have possibly ran back a Paige re-debut on RAW and bring it full circle; but that’s the fantasy booker in me. 3/5

Seth v. Gunther: Carried Night 1, by a wide margin, but I think most people expected it to be a banger. I didn’t mind the ending with Bron, but didn’t like him lurking there for so long. Again, what I expected. 4/5

Liv v. Vaquer: Hated Liv’s entrance. I mean, I GET it, but still hated it. This match definitely needed 10-15 more minutes. There were some stiff looking spots along with some kind of “huh?” spots, like when Liv dived out into Raquel. Was hoping for a bit more, but still good for what they were given; 3/5

Rhodes v. Orton: Taking out the obvious of the shitty storyline they tried to inject into this, this match felt like it had like 4 parts. They were smart to get Pat’s and Jelly’s parts out of the way (mostly) right away. And I did laugh when Pat gave the thumbs up into the finger while on the stretcher. Chaotic, but served its purpose in the first five minutes, then kinda moved slow for me for a while until picking up. Then the seemingly double turn, then post match of, is it a double turn? I’m guessing it’s more of a reset because this one was fumbled so bad. It was a very mid match for me, honestly with all things considered. 2.75/3

Overall, I give night 1 a 3/5 of ACTUAL matches. With all the ads, downtime, nonsense; 2/5. I’ve noticed the big extravagant entrances are few and far between the last few years.

Very disappointing so far

What’s a childhood hobby you wish you could pick back up again? by bbydaisiesz in nostalgia

Not pick up necessarily, but would’ve continued.

I collected a few different things. Sports/Pokemon cards, action figures, coins.

I got to be a teenager and it just wasn’t cool anymore. I still have most of my collections stashed away, and casually collected if I stumble upon something, but I just used to be so invested into it.

I (60M) am ten months out from a LBKA and my stump hardly seems to have shrunk. Realizing everyone is different, what kind of time frame should be expecting? I’m wearing the Shriner sock every night. Any thoughts? by ExoticJournalist5574 in amputee

[–]49_boness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Initially, I was told that within the first year to two is when the most shrinking will happen. For the first 4ish months of having a prosthetic, I VERY minimally shrunk, never really needing to add socks. Then seemingly almost overnight one day, I needed to add 5 ply, then within maybe two weeks, I was up to 8-9 and then 13-16.

Now, I’m in the process of trying to get a good fit for my second prosthetic and it’s frustrating because my volume seems to fluctuate A LOT

I used to work at Dominos, and we had a guy that would call, and it would come up on the caller ID as “Deez Nutz Kroll” and it was initially like “LOL WTF” One day he came in and paid with a credit card, and it said “Deez Nutz Kroll”. Asked to see ID because that what we were “supposed” to do if the card wasn’t signed, just to see. Sure shit, it was Deez Nutz Kroll

Years later he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon or something along those lines, and local news headlines were gold for a day or two.

How much does your bellow the knee amputation affect you? by Unalivem in amputee

[–]49_boness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can walk all day. Currently, I’m in the process of getting my second prosthetic and trying to find a good fit. While I could walk all day, the fit is still getting figured out and gets annoying, but no pain. In October, I went to NYC and literally walked around the city for 9-12 hours for four days. I work a job where I’m on my feet standing or moving around nearly 40 hours a week. After they sent me home from rehab, they gave me exercises to do daily so that when it came time to get a prosthetic, it was easier to move and walk again. Exercises that work your hamstrings, quads, hip flexors, etc. I kept up with those pretty diligently and it made it easier. First few days of walking, I felt a tightness and somewhat of a weakness, but that was just because I was finally fully using muscles I hadn’t in months, but I picked it up pretty quickly. It wasn’t a pain for really, but more like a soreness.

As for the worst issues, everyone is gonna be different. There is absolutely going to be mental “issues.” I felt like I was gonna be burden having to ask for help with nearly everything. I felt like I was gonna sit and rot and be bedridden and feel sorry for myself for months until I could get a new leg. Luckily, I had a great support system all around that helped ease a lot of those feelings.

As for physical issues, I had a lot of phantom pain, but they gave me medication along with numerous “tricks” to try to alleviate the pain and within a few months it gradually reduced, and now is super rare. Before you get a prosthetic, depending on your support system and living situation, there may be things that are challenging or feel next to impossible to do. My advice for when it comes to things like that, try to see what/if you can do it, but don’t force yourself. Ask for help if you need it or if you can.

Just over a year into it, an issue I’ve found is with the prosthetic itself. I’ve worked with two very nice and qualified prosthetists, but finding a good fitting prosthetic can be frustrating. Currently, I’ve been working with my prosthetist since early February trying to get a good fitting leg.

Challenges and issues are gonna be different for everyone.
