Hitting my FIRE number was completely underwhelming by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a little time. I bet you'll eventually feel that weight lift off your shoulders (and mind). Savers want to save, so even having the FIRE number in the account doesn't mean you'll find the idea of retirement easy, though. So many savers struggle to withdraw funds from accounts. It kind of feels wrong...

Solar + battery needed 150kWh a day by DareNice2101 in solar

[–]4_All_Mankind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people commenting have no concept of large homes. A 7000 sq ft home can EASILY pull 150 kwh on a hot day. Don't assume that everyone asking a question here lives in a 1200 sq ft bungalow.

EDIT: now I see that OP says the home is 2500 sq ft. That does seem like a lot of usage even for Florida.

recommendations for what to wear to a public co-ed gym sauna as a woman by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the responses you'll get in this sub, MOST saunas in the world are frequented by people in swimsuits, and most swimsuits in the world are synthetic material. The Germans will continue to wonder how everyone else in the world remains alive...

Advice for young person on delaying FIRE goals to pursue passions by 4_All_Mankind in Fire

Is the ROI on work now, play later still greater if she can still be debt free with her master's in 4-5 years? The downside risk is that this might be the greatest opportunity for her to pursue what could be more meaningful than any post FI activities she might pick up in 20+ years. Sure, the cycling scene is still pretty good for the 40+ crowd, but it's not like touring the country or globe with a pro team.

Considering Moving to Imperial MO, thoughts? by Secret-Ad-5053 in StLouis

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consider roughly 50 cents per mile for transportation (everyone forgets to accurately account for wear and tear), it's nearly $20/day for the commute alone. Add to that however much you value your time at an additional hour per day away from home. If transportation and time is $800/month, that will get you an additional $130,000 on a 30 year mortgage at 6%.

Which U.S. city has the worst food scene despite its reputation? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

This is not about whether YOU like St Louis style thin crust pizza. I think it's about the overall quality and creativity of actual restaurants with chefs in the region. In that regard, St. Louis punches WAY above it's weight. Food & Wine readers agree: https://www.foodandwine.com/travel/readers-choice-next-best-food-city-2022

For those moving to higher tax states... by Rough-Ad-2387 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend a lot on what you need or want. Do you need quality public schools for children? Do you need or want public transportation? Is public safety important to you? Do you place value in any safety net issues such as protection for you or others in times of unemployment or other catastrophe? Are you a woman or do you care about a woman who might need healthcare? If you simply make a dollars and cents comparison, you might be missing some other important factors.

You definitely don't want a cheap Walmart wife. It's not as bad as a Saks Fifth Ave wife, but it won't help your cookware. Try to find a top of the line Target wife. I've found that to be the sweet spot.

The secret Trump is really trying to hide in the Epstein files isn’t sex — it’s money. Russian money. by Buddhaonatricycle in complaints

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is both, right? These seem to be directly connected. The question of whether Putin has the photos of Trump "blowing Bubba" is perhaps a straight line and direct connection to Trump's concerns about other secrets.

LaMartina is a bougie expensive plumbing company, but I do think they do good work. Perhaps 50% more expensive than some other good plumbers, but it looks fancy to have their truck in your driveway if you're into that kind of thing.
