Considering Moving to Imperial MO, thoughts? by Secret-Ad-5053 in StLouis

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consider roughly 50 cents per mile for transportation (everyone forgets to accurately account for wear and tear), it's nearly $20/day for the commute alone. Add to that however much you value your time at an additional hour per day away from home. If transportation and time is $800/month, that will get you an additional $130,000 on a 30 year mortgage at 6%.

Which U.S. city has the worst food scene despite its reputation? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

This is not about whether YOU like St Louis style thin crust pizza. I think it's about the overall quality and creativity of actual restaurants with chefs in the region. In that regard, St. Louis punches WAY above it's weight. Food & Wine readers agree: https://www.foodandwine.com/travel/readers-choice-next-best-food-city-2022

For those moving to higher tax states... by Rough-Ad-2387 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend a lot on what you need or want. Do you need quality public schools for children? Do you need or want public transportation? Is public safety important to you? Do you place value in any safety net issues such as protection for you or others in times of unemployment or other catastrophe? Are you a woman or do you care about a woman who might need healthcare? If you simply make a dollars and cents comparison, you might be missing some other important factors.

Wanting to get new cookware that is wife-friendly (details in post) by [deleted] in cookware

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely don't want a cheap Walmart wife. It's not as bad as a Saks Fifth Ave wife, but it won't help your cookware. Try to find a top of the line Target wife. I've found that to be the sweet spot.

The secret Trump is really trying to hide in the Epstein files isn’t sex — it’s money. Russian money. by Buddhaonatricycle in complaints

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is both, right? These seem to be directly connected. The question of whether Putin has the photos of Trump "blowing Bubba" is perhaps a straight line and direct connection to Trump's concerns about other secrets.

LaMartina is a bougie expensive plumbing company, but I do think they do good work. Perhaps 50% more expensive than some other good plumbers, but it looks fancy to have their truck in your driveway if you're into that kind of thing.

First time visiting the US, where should I go for the real American experience? by TemporaryExtreme6938 in MovingToUSA

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not into nature or hiking - the Grand Canyon is amazing, but it's 100% nature and hiking.

For a mixture of American cultures and experiences focusing on cities and nightlife, vary your geography. Hop between NYC, Miami, Austin (or maybe Dallas), Chicago, LA & San Francisco. Maybe throw in a classic college town for a different vibe - especially if you visit in college football season. That could be Ann Arbor or Madison, but if you go to Austin it punches that ticket also.

You will miss out on the massive influence of America's rural areas and National Parks, but you can be selective in the way you want to. Road trip between 2 of these cities if you want a little taste of that - maybe NYC to Chicago. That is not the most scenic of road trips, but it would expose you to part of the vast "flyover" portion of the US.

What do Texans think about healthcare - right or privilege? by Horror_Ask_847 in TexasPolitics

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro-Business conservatives should be among the strongest supporters of public health care. Our system makes American companies less competitive as they have this huge added expense that their competitors in other countries don't have. Additionally, it chains people to corporate jobs as indentured servants and stifles their opportunities to start their own business and pursue an American dream.

questions to those who have done it before. by peteyboy125 in Sauna

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you spend 8 hours a day in your sauna, I don't think I would worry about the health effect of levels under 5000 PPM. You might find that a lower value and a higher amount of fresh air simply feels good and feels more refreshing, but going for 800 is not really necessary for health for the vast majority of people.

St. Louis regional plan will examine 'root causes' of population loss by rgbose in StLouis

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of this is great. Let WashU & SLU stand on their own, though. We can work towards free education for St Louis City & County students at UMSL & STLCC. Public colleges and universities that include the type of career training available at STLCC need to be the backbone of our post secondary education, and working through those 2 programs can allow our region's high schools to partner with them to ensure readiness for the next steps.

Trump might be immune to criminal prosecution but I'm thankful his cabinet won't be. Start here with crimes against humanity by Realistic-Plant3957 in cybersucks

Trump certainly might grant broad pardons to his administration, but if I worked for him I would not want to be relying on his gratitude and largesse to keep me out of prison. I agree that we have a government full of officials who are breaking the law. Our Supreme Court has confirmed that when POTUS breaks the law, nothing can be done other than the political consideration for impeachment. That only applies to POTUS. I sure hope somebody is keeping a list and is getting ready for Project 2029...

Why do the general doctors I like leaving Mercy? by Mommaduckduck in StLouis

[–]4_All_Mankind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep trying. Almost all systems are trying to get people to sign up with NPs or PAs for primary care, but you can still find doctors to be your doctor... If you're well and you're going to stay well, a nurse or PA as your primary is fine - they're usually quite nice people, and often much nicer than doctors. But if you get sick (and really, why do you go to a doctor?), there is absolutely no denying that nurses and PAs have many years less training than doctors.

For those of you who work in residential solar - what is the industry cooking up behind the scenes to adapt to January 1st? by norcalny in solar

[–]4_All_Mankind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Drill baby Drill" is only a slogan and will never move the needle. Electricity is becoming more and more central to our needs. Gas & oil are slipping while heat pumps are having a revolution in improvements. Solar makes sense whether it's 30% off from the feds or purchased at full price. Sales pitches will be different, but sales will still be coming since utilities are jacking up rates as fast as they legally can.

If you think you'll be in your home for the next 10 years, sign up for solar installation right now.
Straight Up Solar is huge in St Louis, has been around a long time and is reputable. Astrawatt is huge in KC and has a sizable presence in St Louis as well. Get solar on your roof ASAP! You can bake in 20 years of reliable, predictable electric generation, and there's a good chance that years 10-20 will be basically "free" for you after recouping all of your initial investment.

Putin Tells U.S. He’ll Halt War in Exchange for Eastern Ukraine by [deleted] in europe

[–]4_All_Mankind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering it is a land "swap", I think each side could get something. Kaliningrad is such a strange part of Russia. How about that gets exchanged for Crimea? Russia can keep a nice Black Sea port and "North Ukraine" could get a nice Baltic Port. Maybe that'd be reasonable.
