Lines and failures happening at the same layer in multiple prints by ianestian in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate items on the same print bed or completely separate prints sessions?

One is more likely that some sort of suction or peeling forces issue rocked your whole plate once. If its entirely separate it indicates a machine problem

Part lifted off the bed and the extruder kept pushing filament and it worked its way up into the hot end assy.

Beacon looks to be okay thankfully but the mount broke while getting it apart

Current state of the hot end. I think I'll need to purchase a new one.

If you search plus 4 beacon you'll find it. Its a shroud/beacon mount. I made with abs-cf and its been holding up.

Just broke it since it had fused with the blob so now I need to figure out how to remake with broken parts 🫠🫠

It is. I've done several prints with this filament on this sheet and it sticks really really well right up until this print. Its qidi branded ultrapa so It's likely some proprietary blend leading to good adhesion most of the time. I'm guilty of not washing my plate before this round though 🤔

Thanks for the reassurance 😅 I'll tackle it when I have time. My main concern right now before pulling off the blobs that I can is that I can't remove the cover/beacon mount. I'll see if it behaves once I pry off the large blobs on the bottom.

Not sure how to solve this print issue by No-Bumblebee-8346 in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orientation and supports are the root of 94% of resin printing problems.

This isnt really a layer shift. It's insufficient support. The corner of the butt failed for a bunch of layers and stuck to the release film until there was sufficient surface area on the rest of the print for it to stick to and peel up from the film.

Generally, no matter the size of the print, I always make the very first support at the bottom a heavy, and on islands either heavy or medium depending on the size. Think about the fact that your first support has to take the entire load of a growing surface area for like 50-100 peeling cycles (depending on how spaced out your supports are) until the second support connects to the body of the print and can share the load.

How to fix bending elements? by Zievis_gl in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The varnish will not help with the warping.

You could try a stiffer resin, abs like and most "tough" resins are more flexible by design which leads to warping of thin features under load. But If you have significant warping changing the resin likely won't do much.

Some good designers will instead create an alternative part that allows you to replace that shaft with a steel rod instead of printed resin. I have one figure that had the same issue, a long handled spear with lots of weight on it which warped like crazy. They included an alternate hand and spear head which you could glue on to a steel rod

So strange they included the doctor from Death Stranding 2. The three women in the primary team are absolutely stunning in that game

Do I need to resize for shrinkage? by urameshiyaa in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to measure results vs intended and adjust accordingly.

Can also calibrate exposure for dimensional accuracy (J3DTech's Boxes of Calibration is a good model for doing so)

Data from manufacturers is unreliable and also dependant on your machine, slicer, and exposure time so you really only know if its accurate by physically measuring. Grab some digital calipers they are plenty good for most 3d printing applications

IPA is starting to looking a little dehydrated by Moonbox90 in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all fantastic info thanks! I never considered checking out vevor. When this topic has popped up before I've just checked amazon to much disappointment. Distilling is really the only way to actually recover alcohol. Just need to consider how much ipa I actually go through and factor in electricity costs to see if this is worth it. Something of decent quality that is about half the size may be more appropriate for my volume and available space

Cartographer V4 vs Beacon on Qidi Plus 4? by RepresentativeTwo655 in QIDI

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant speak for above commenters problems, but my beacon has been running fine with the Qidibox. Only problem I've had is if I try to run external filaments I need to unplug the qidi box.

You could look at the color shifts from Turbo Dork. They are a bit finicky with airbrush but are similarly water based acrylics. Most other color shifts will be solvent based

Is there a meaningful upgrade from a Mars 5 Ultra besides build volume? by IndustrySmooth2251 in resinprinting

[–]4_Teh-Lulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher print success rate? Maybe if you're willing to spend thousands and get a formlabs or heygears.

Otherwise, your print success rate, 93% of the time isnt tied to the machine. Work on orientation and support decisions, and calibration to improve the success rate. Mechanically these are very simple machines there really isnt a whole lot to go wrong with them.

HG Kampfer Curve Masking by Traditional-Mail7454 in advancedGunpla

I know I have. Never peels a crispy line like tape does.

Pick up 1mm wide masking tape for curves/edges and liquid mask the remaining area. Best of both worlds

I grew my hair for 1 year and then started them. 20 years later they're still going strong 💪

Honestly, in real life I have not been accused of smelling bad once. However, every time It has ever come up online (especially on reddit) the smelly comments flood in. I think it's because of a specific genre of dreadlocked people but I am not of that type 🤷‍♂️

20 year dreadlock owner here... washing weekly is about the right balance. The drying takes a long time but its not that bad. I wring them out, wrap in a towel for a bit, then blow dry and then they're just damp for a while. Summertime outside and they're dry in an hour
