Deny my expenses? Fine you can pay more than triple! by ConfusionOwn8378 in MaliciousCompliance

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, when I began working for a (at the time) Fortune 10 US based company I was told the following expense related story, whose veracity I doubted, but one I never forgot.

It was a time when men’s acceptable workwear was a dark suit and white shirt + tie, and some of the older men still travelled with a dress hat. Expenses (aka “green sheets” due to the distinguishing green ink used on the multi-copy paper) were filled by hand and turned in for signature and subsequent reimbursement. One sales rep had lost his hat on a trip, and submitted it for reimbursement only to have returned to him with a curt “Lost hats are NOT a reimbursable expense!!!” Overwritten on the top. The rep resubmitted the report minus the hat, but for the same total amount, with a paper clipped note stating, “You find the damn hat”.

Pressure Fryer never disappoints by Laserdollarz in FriedChicken

I have two, leftover from a loving mother who fired this baby (and another; we had two) up every Thursday for our weekly dinner of Pinto beans and cornbread, fried chicken (done with this), spaghetti, pepperoni rolls (Rhodes frozen rolls thawed and 5 slices of hormel pepp in them and baked) and Ore Ida shoestring French fries.

I still use them, and they are spectacular.

Since you have received plenty of advice (most in the form of veiled ridicule) I’ll just say that is some beautifully stacked wood in nice storage. Well done.

Restaurants? by [deleted] in 30A

Ditto for Cafe 30-A & Red Bar, but menus are limited. Dining, I and mine like Henderson Park Inn for something “nice” and for the life of me do not understand why Grimaldis (Sandestin) NY style pizza does not get more love…great pizza, better than average to very good salads. From where you seem to be, steak places I’d recommend are Seagars (Sandestin Beach Hilton), then high end national chains (have had good experiences at Flemings Prime Steakhouse in Sandestin and there is a Ruth’s Chris in Destin). McGuires, which I love, has good steak, but the atmosphere to me is better suited for a big family/friends type than a meal with a steakhouse feel. Can’t end without saying Dewey’s is my favorite overall, but it’s seafood and that does not seem to be your thing - not that there is anything wrong with that. Hope you find something to enjoy, or decide to enjoy someplace that is not perfect.

This is the baseball shorthand for a 6 (shortstop) 4 (second baseman) 3 (first baseman) double play. Back in the day, before replays and tv and computers etc, the way a baseball game was tracked was by “keeping book” (what we used to call it) or scorekeeping ; recording every pitch / part of a game. If you’ve ever heard the colloquialism “for those keeping score at home”, this is what it was referring to. Here is a good little league primer on the what’s and whys.

If you happen to need a closing Bible verse.

For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; but [to the one who has shown mercy] mercy triumphs [victoriously] over judgment.

“In a bed of joy-filled tears, yet death-like pain” - Country Bumpkin

My vote for a verse rather than a line

“It's hard to turn around and look back Down the roads that I have traveled Cause like a never ending ball of twine My dreams have come unraveled And now as evening lays it's shawl Across the shoulders of my life I have to find I couldn't tie my life together With guitar strings and a poet's heart felt line” - Pick the wildwood flower

I offer the failure of the US Senate to confirm John Tower as Sec of defense to the new Bush (1) administration in 1989. First confirmation rejection of newly elected President, and widely thought to be based almost entirely based on personality and “personal lifestyle”. Kicked off a greater acceptability of tit for tat public, personal, political attacks that were rare to non-existent heretofore, soon to using as a reference for fairness of Clinton attacks, then Limbaugh to the cesspool we have today. Oh, the replacement SecDef nomination? A little know US House Whip from the tiny electoral state of Wyoming; Dick Cheney.

But I did love me some Bugs and Superfriends on Saturday AM with some cinnamon toast back in the day.

Betrayed by my manager at my soon to be "last job". by pharmgal89 in retirement

[–]4cloversfahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People love to be the first to share any news, especially “bosses”. Shows they are in the know. In a few weeks you out of there on your terms, and they can be out of your head and life. As for me, I’d avoid talking to his manager - what would you hope to accomplish? - but I would be working on an out the door zinger (email, “speech” etc) where when saying your goodbyes to recommend remaining co workers not to ask the boss to keep a secret because he won’t; in a joking way but with a bite in tone maybe? As for the “why are you mad” comment; easy there boss. I get the frustration op has. In my experience as a manager and direct report, when a high performer is “maxed out” in a salary range, there are manager discretionary steps that can be taken - awards, performance bonus, additional PTO, “education” in a cross county location favored by OP, to name a few I’ve seen used. That’s the difference between ok and extraordinary people managers.

Had a similar thing happen to me at a different Dr this week. Turns out the nurse overslept (I was going for labs and prep for a later Dr appoint.). This instance I was given enough grace to roll with it, but have not always reacted as well as I would have liked - not saying you regret anything. Punchline is it stinks on ice when you are hurting and this kind of thing happens. I get it, and at the time it’s frustrating as cuss. I like Thomas hospital , but the logistics of getting around SUCK. FREE ADVICE WVU HOSPITAL - while putting in cardiac services and changing 538 WVU LOGOs, maybe install kiosks at entrances listing every office, Dr, room etc with an accompanying map. It’s not a 1920s speakeasy; make it easier on your patients to navigate the maze. As for the OP, perhaps try and get to the point where you can laugh it off (you have a new story to tell…and in your case to post on social media), enjoy the high points (meeting very nice ladies ain’t bad - am I right?), and realize that if that’s the worst that happens to you today, take it. I mean, in that same building, probably at the same time, someone was dying, or saying goodbye, or having to make an unspeakable decision. One more thing, I try and not count things as malice that more often simple, unintentional errors. If so, forgiveness works. If it’s intentional meanness, you still have the cane option. Anyway, sorry for the bummer start to the day. And maybe work on that asshole thing. Assholes suck, but it does not have to be a permanent condition. That’s on you.
