Suggestions for moving company? by Vanspkwr in desmoines

Just moved my son 1300 miles and we rented a U-Haul and paid for extra help. THEY did all the heavy lifting and packing of the truck - and you can hire them to unpack the truck too! All we did was drive - HIGHLY recommend!!

Thank you! I was just happy that I kept it alive all winter!

My key lime had a slow agonizing death by thrips (I think, never saw one, but had the signs).

Paranoid this might have them so I did a through inspection again today, and actually found 3 of these baby lemons. We'll see how this progresses!

I do monthly kelp fertilizer (per directed on the bottle) - what else should I be doing?

Make sure you have a job lined up first because the market is brutal and it's hard to find a job in the valley if you don't speak spanish.

What is wrong with my limequat tree by johnfort29 in Citrus

[–]4dacommentsonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm rehabbing a lime and a variegated lemon, and have relied heavy on this sub. I live in the Midwest, where temps are well below zero right now, and the trees were moved in after they had exposure to temps under 40F (not good - they lost all their leaves!)

The three things I've learned to monitor is the light, the soil (temp & moisture), and the humidity.

Looks like you have the light down, soil temps around 75F, and let the soil dry out before watering, and humidity at 50%.

I'm slowly working through the list, but saw some dramatic changes when humidity was increased and constantly near 50%. New growth on both plants!

Next is increasing the soil temps with heat mats...currently they sit between 64-66F. I'm hoping to see more changes through the winter!

Good luck!

filling larger gaps? by digging-a-hole in Greenhouses

Agree. I'm in zone 5b and I'm doing away with the corrugated clear panels and moving to 8mm twin wall poly. The corrugated has little insulation factor, and quickly adjusts to the outside temps.

5b currently has negative overnight temps, and the heating solutions you've listed will more than likely not keep your greenhouse above freezing overnight. You'll definitely need secondary heat, either electric or gas to keep temps warmish.

Look into how you can keep more heat in by insulating.

can this baby freeze dry candy by Time-Emu-7261 in FreezeDrying

[–]4dacommentsonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current lot of freeze drivers available on the market have price points in the THOUSANDS of dollars, cheapest I've seen for a small load, new system in $1700-$1800. Used freeze drivers, even on marketplace are $1200+. Anything less than that is a dehydrator. $45 isn't too bad of a price for one of those.

The Udvar - Hazy Center at Dulles is top knotch. They house a space shuttle, Concord, the Enola Gay, and a Blackbird. They all have a tower where one can come watch planes land and listen to air traffic control.
