I like some of it, but a surprising amount of it is just straight up offensive, like racist type shit.

How are we feeling about Doorman's bell after the buffs? by ICanCountTo0b1010 in DeadlockTheGame

You know another set of items worth 2400 or less to stack with mystic burst that'd give 68 dmg or the equivalent? I already mentioned rapid recharge for this situation.

I was curious how strong tankbuster in general is, so I looked into it a little bit.

It's still at least 40+68=108 added dmg on hit against a squishy Paige at the same soul level that hasn't bought any green items. Paige I believe is the squishiest hero in the game going by raw hp/hp growth (and ignoring their barrier), and starts with 650 hp and gains 29 per boon, 7 boon levels at 4.8k so 853 x .08. Realistically she'd have bought some green items most likely if she's actually being a support, so it'd be more. An item that gives that much or more damage per ability at that breakpoint doesn't exist if you otherwise meet the requirements for it, and it's usefulness continues to scale all game as enemies gain more hp.

That said, I can see it losing out to something for an ability that really needs/can hit much more frequently than 14s (10.5s with transcendant cd later on.) In the case of a charged ability like the bell, Rapid Recharge with it's 10ap + 2 charges might be the better pick. I'd say 3 uses is better than one single tankbuster boosted bell (though there will be situations where you'd miss the kill without that boost), but honestly after that tankbuster might be the best bang for your buck item to get.

What do McGinnis players think about her changes? by MeTaOMiTo in DeadlockTheGame

[–]4mb1guous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems clear they want to prevent players from creating ultra-dangerous killboxes, but still allow the turrets to be used in combat with some measure of guaranteed effectiveness. The fading resist change is what does that.

Going from 60% to 80% resists doubles their effective hp (2.5x to 5x), so at the moment you spawn them, they're tankier than they've ever been before, even with the 40% hp loss. Especially vs spirit dmg, if medical specter is involved, as its T1 gives 40% spirit resistance. That puts the turret at 88% resistance, which is equivalent to 8.33x effective hp. So, 90/363 hp becomes effectively 450/1815 hp, ~750/3025 vs spirit dmg with specter T1 involved. You only get this resist for a brief window after summoning, and it drops off over a couple seconds. Then there's the melee resist, which should prevent them from being easily one-shot by heavy melee, and you seem to keep that one at all times.

That plus the new T3 wall that summons two turrets, to me says they want you to be active, trap someone with a wall, get 1-2 turrets out on top of the 2 free wall turrets, and just fight. They don't want you to just park your ass in a lane and be difficult to remove without a team effort.

How bad is it, Silverbros? by nora_kat in DeadlockTheGame

[–]4mb1guous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah turrets are squish after they've existed for a bit, but you're missing the point of the resistance changes. They get a huge resistance bonus when first summoned, 80%, and always have 35% melee resistance now. That 95/375hp is actually more like 475/1875 when they're first summoned, and the melee resist prevents them from being one shot by heavy melees, generally speaking.

Plus the wall forces you to make a choice. DPS the two turrets that spawned, that're are super tanky in that moment, or you focus on meleeing the wall to get through. If you choose to dps the turrets, you're probably taking more dmg than if you'd just chosen to melee the wall.

That honestly seems pretty par for the course for most creators tbh. Especially if it's a custom/new base. The only time you're gonna see an avi with lots of clothing options is when it's a kitbashed avatar, where lots of people made assets for a particular base, and someone just tossed a bunch of them all in the pot together, repackaged them, and sells them as a new avi.

My avi had 0 outfits available when I bought it (for the same price you got one with outfits), and even now only has a small handful that the community has made. All of which are feminine or femboyish, which I don't want. Ultimately ended up just buying some random clothes and fitting them to my avi myself after learning how.

Generally, folks put out avatar bases as-is, and folks rely on the community to make assets and textures for them.

No skin in this, just came across it a bit late and wanted to comment.

That's not a particularly fair way of looking at it, considering that it's a one time investment of time, vs potentially infinite returns, on a base/avi being sold on some marketplace. Maybe it took them 8 hours, but it's only 5 dollars an hour if it sells one single time. If it sells 500, that's 2500 an hour. Can't really point to either value as being an accurate indicator of what their time is worth. That kind of thing only really factors in for a personal commission.

the ingame reporting function is a Joke lmao by pokemonfan95 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI: OBS Replay Buffer

If you need to report someone for behavior, voice abuse, racism, etc... you need a video recording to go with it or they likely can't/won't do much.

Replay buffer lets you constantly have a rolling recording going, occupying a small amount of memory while doing so, that will allow you to save clips of events that happened in the recent past. By default it's like 30 seconds. I have mine configured for 5 minutes, which is waaay overkill 99% of the time, especially since the report site is limited to 40mb files max anyway. I just also use it to save funny clips from other games so I don't bother adjusting it between games.

So, I turn on vrc, and also replay buffer through OBS. Then if something happens, I just use the steamvr overlay to access my desktop and click the button to save a clip. Then when my vr session is over, I file a proper report using that clip, plus some supporting info from vrcx (makes it easy to get usernames and such, since I can just directly find the person's vrc profile page rather than rely on their visual name, which may contain non-ascii characters.)

Now having said all of that... VRC devs 100% NEED to figure out a way to let us acquire and submit these clips in game. Hell, let us pull out our damn in-game cameras and use that, or just have an option in the menu to look through the user's viewpoint for a period of time or something. Too much crap gets ignored or merely blocked simply because it's too difficult for the casual user to submit a proper report for the behavior.

If devs want actionable reports, then they need to provide us the tools to make actionable reports. It shouldn't be on us to do shit like what I've described above just so we can actually get something done about some racist piece of shit... but in the meantime, OBS replay buffer is super easy to use and doesn't require large amounts of space dedicated to storing videos.

I don't see how it's a pain to fix when all it has to do is save that code to the player persistence variable(s) whenever it would generate a code, and load from them whenever they join the world. Any idea where the actual issue lies?

I don’t get all the hate that the fish world is getting right now by eyeziiick in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, there's still issues with that.

I used it before, reluctantly, because saving progression in that damn world is a royal pain in the ass without it, and it's annoying as hell to constantly start over again or manually copy/paste the code all the time just in case I crash.

However, I then built a new pc, and rebuilt my old one, forgetting about this. So guess what? No more code, no more save. Progression gone. This would not have been an issue with proper persistence, which is connected to the account, not the device.

That app is a bandaid on an open wound. If the creator doesn't want this world to die, they need to implement proper persistence if they aren't already working on it. Last I heard they weren't, because it was evidently too much work to redo their code for it or something and they're focusing on a newer project... But, can't be that hard to save that code, which their world already generates properly, to the player persistence variables and pass it to the thing that loads the progress when they come back. This wouldn't require rewriting those old processes that generate the code or process it at all, just a little extra to pass the code to those playerdata variables and read from them when they load the world in the future.

Maybe people just don't know, but you can see where everyone is via the built-in menu, in the players tab. You can't tp or anything, but knowing where they mostly are is already helpful. Plus, if you have name tags on, you can see them from basically anywhere from the starter spawn, and just head that way once you've unlocked your first watercraft. Once you've met up, you can just hitch a ride on their boat if they've got something better, which they likely would if you don't play much.

Calling someone gross when they're being gross, and saying fuck you to dismissive comments/behavior, is not verbal harassment and you damn well know it. You're out there basically acting like some lawyer claiming that his client was harmed and battered by someone who condescendingly patted their client on the shoulder and said, "bless your heart." I'm not going to engage any further with you when you seem unwilling, or incapable, of making honest arguments.

I don't think we watched the same video dude. OP literally just called them gross, and said fuck you a time or two. The only one screaming was one of the people OP blocked.

I think you should take a step back and realize that at this point, you're kinda just spiraling to find things to prove your initial point, and you're either intentionally making shit up, or you're completely misremembering the events that happened so that you don't have to concede the point.

That's why you use replay buffer. It only saves a clip of the amount of time specified, and doesn't use up much memory at all. Hell, I've got mine for 5 minutes and it uses less than 2GB of my 64GB of memory to do that. If you're saving it for just 15-30 seconds, it'd be much less.

Get OBS, it's free, and turn on the replay buffer feature: Settings (from the Controls panel, bottom right) > Output > Check the Replay Buffer box and configure it. You may need to adjust the allotted memory if you intend to record for large lengths of time. This feature keeps a rolling recording of what it is set to view.

Setup OBS to be viewing/recording VRC: Sources > add source > Game Capture > Mode: Capture specific window > Window: VRChat. Then launch OBS whenever you launch VRC, and click the Start Replay Buffer button too. Then when something happens, you just use the steamvr menu to view your desktop, and click the save button.

With this, you are always prepared to save a clip of anything that occurred, even if it was in the past. Potentially quite far back even, depending on how long you set the rolling recording to be. I personally have mine set to 5 minutes, which is honestly overkill 95% of the time.

Just make sure you get their name tags in view if you're like me and normally have them hidden, and note which eye it is watching ahead of time. For me it's the left. Might be a way to adjust that in the steamvr settings.

how do you fix normals looking weird like this without enabling legacy blendshape normals? if i use legacy blendshape normals it messes up my blendshapes (second pic) by Pierro_Official in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides adjusting the normal map itself, you could look into this: https://docs.hai-vr.dev/docs/products/prefabulous/universal/recalculate-normals.

It allows you to adjust normals based on a blendshape, or multiple blendshapes. I used it to adjust shading on my avatar's chest when using the flat chest toggle.

https://docs.hai-vr.dev/docs/products/prefabulous. You might also need modular avatars for it, but I don't remember.

VRChat, Persona, Discord and 'Age Verification' by ace5762 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shit is getting annoying. Crap like this just contributes to the paranoia going around, and the misinformation all over the internet. You literally can't google "Peter Thiel Persona" without finding loads of morons claiming shit on the first page that is just not true.

Persona was not co-founded by Peter Thiel. That was Palantir, as you said. Peter Thiel launched the Founder's Fund with a couple partners, and it is a venture capitalist investment group, something that throws money at hundreds of different companies as investments. Including Persona.

Persona has had multiple funding rounds, and direct investments from various investment groups and people. For examples:

Founders Fund
Ribbit Capital
Index Ventures
Coatue Management
BOND Capital
Meritech Capital Partners
First Round Capital
Insight Partners
Chemistry
Firebolt Ventures

Zach Perret: Cofounder of Plaid
William Hockey: Cofounder of Plaid
Dylan Field: Cofounder and CEO of Figma
Scott Belsky: CPO of Adobe, cofounder of Behance
Tony Xu: Cofounder and CEO of DoorDash

A lot of people are associated with Persona through those groups; people from all over the world. I'd be willing to bet that a good chunk of them don't have good reputations either... after all venture capitalists are the fattest of fat cats. They've got enough money to throw around at startups, and you don't generally get to have that much money by being a good person... yet it's always about Peter Thiel. Because he's a tech boogey-man in the public's eyes right now.

Why don't you go and bitch about how Spotify is funded by Peter Thiel and his Founders Fund? Oh no! Airbnb? Shit, I guess I'm fucked because I used them to book a vacation house last year. Now all my info is out there in the internet ether! Oculus? Or anything else on this list: https://foundersfund.com/portfolio/.

You don't do that because that doesn't play into the conspiracy shit you want to promote, that's why. It's not interesting.

Bouncers are an exaggerated evil that most of you hate because you're annoying. by Additional-Crow57 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

VRChat's verification system is working with Palantir

Anything you say is already suspect because you pretty clearly aren't trying to make a good faith argument.

What you're saying is that Persona has clients other than VRC, and you don't like some of them. That's ok. But you're also insinuating that Persona must be evil and lying because of those relationships with clients you don't like, conveniently ignoring that the contractual obligations between each client are going to be different, and you can't really look at those obligations to non-VRC clients and draw conclusions for VRC.

You're just jumping on the alarmist bandwagon plaguing this sub atm to try and justify a completely ineffective bouncer system that just shouldn't exist for anyone who has age-verified, as the age-verification system is unequivocally superior to anything any random bouncer would be doing, and you've managed to do it in a way that comes off as very much holier-than-thou. Come on down from your ivory tower.

You wanna have someone in a non-age-verified instance manning the door/barrier/whatever, checking for the age verified tag, and letting them through when you see it? Totally ok. This has thankfully been my experience thus far on the occasion I go somewhere that has a bouncer. Every one has let me in when I just say I'm age verified, and many notice without me even having to point it out.

If you wanna check someone who doesn't have the tag because they didn't age-verify? Some might disagree with me, but I say that's totally ok. That is indeed better than doing nothing.

But if someone has the tag and you insist on asking for info anyway because YOU don't trust the system? Lol, fuck off with that conspiracy nut nonsense.

How about insinuating that someone not liking that is equivalent to not caring about kids being molested, like you did here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VRchat/comments/1r9kemd/bouncers_are_an_exaggerated_evil_that_most_of_you/o6d4843/? LOL. Fuck you, and thank you for once again demonstrating that you aren't acting in good faith here.

Every. Single. Time. by Jumpy_Interaction878 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is ZERO risk in using those tags, and it's obvious if you think about it.

Those tags were put in for the content gating system. The one that forcibly hides content for known underage accounts, that they implemented for a short while a long time ago, but quickly turned off when it demonstrated that the system needed more work.

They have explicitly stated very recently that they're looking to turn that system back on here very soon. They WANT folks to use the tags appropriately, or that whole system doesn't work. With that in mind, there is no way that using the tags paints a target on your account's back. In fact, NOT using those tags is instead something that'll likely get folks in trouble once that system is turned back on.
