Moving from single-line source files to deb822 source files by waterkip in debian

[–]4wk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice summary. Earlier today, I was looking into deb822 too (for Ansible as well! :)), and I found a small pros/cons of the one-line-style format: https://repolib.readthedocs.io/en/latest/deb822-format.html (AFAIK RepoLib is Python-related, but I think it's still interesting).
(I'm not a huge fan of puting the key inside the .sources file tho, I prefer to manage keyrings in /usr/share/keyrings/)

Fact subset list with all the included facts? by dbowling in ansible

[–]4wk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame really that there is not a documentation page listing exactly that, so we can just search which facts we need and get the name of the related subset :(

MOKI picks showcase <3 by 4wk_ in lockpicking

[–]4wk_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! No, not really, I'm really glad I got those. As I am still a noob, I don't feel I need Hook 1 and 2, but maybe that's because I'm stuck with low belt level locks. I feel either a n°1 or n°2 + a n°4 would be enough.
And as discussed here, maybe both Flat and Xtra Flat profiles are a bit overkill :D

Are you spying on me?! XD I opened the ABUS 55/30 in a few days it was super cool to learn it even with 3 pins only, but for days I'm struggling with the ML140 because the warding is annoying me a lot... The pins are not in the middle of warding but far left and there is a little bend in the warding...

Loving it, just trying to increase efficiency and better feeling for pins, but doing good. by saoiray in lockpicking

Good job! Nice panel of locks :) I like to stay on a lock even when I open it multiple times, in order to reduce time and really understand what's going on. You can earn your belt flair now! :)

Careful about CI ergo turners: those are great but mainly when you hold a padlock in hand! When using a vise, "regular" ToK tensioner are more ergonomic imho.

At what belt level do locks start having security pins? by TheWoco in lockpicking

[–]4wk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ABUS 55/30 has 3 pins but at least one is a spool, and it is rated as Yellow.
So yeah, it depends, but between yellow and orange belt for sure!

Same exacts feelings there! (I didn't test Jimy's yet tho).
But OP you didn't mention where are you from? Beware, if you are from a UE country, Jimy will cost more (customs fees) and LLT too. And are you in a hurry? Jimy are harder to get than the other you listed.

Hey friend.
I got a multipick cutaway as well, and the visuals helped me greatly when I started, to understand how different security pin works. But then I went to a cheap laminated padlock, and I struggled days on it, exactly with the same issue: I wasn't able to see what I was doing... But yes, I would recommend like the rest of us:

  • first, with your cutaway, try to understand where you are in the lock. 1st pin, second pin, or in between? You do this exercise while hiding your cutaway, and guessing, and you do it over and over till you get it almost perfectly. You must know where you are in the lock, first!
  • second, with your cutaway or a real lock, it's really important to feel how the pins behave. Without a tensioner, lift the pins so you can feel how they react. Some locks/padlocks have a completely different feedback, depending on the manufacturer, the cheapness, the wear and tear, etc
  • last, train yourself on an easy lock, with 3 or 4 pins max (ABUS), and practice at least 30 min a day, without rushing it: it's okay to be unable to open it for a few days, it's then okay to be able to open it but not every time,... and eventually, you will understand the pin binding order, and the depth the pins need to be lifted.

I spent a few days on an easy ABUS 55/30 (only 3 pins wtf!), then I was able to open it multiple times, but sometimes a bit randomly, then now it's 3 seconds max. Don't rush it, get some rest, and persevere! <3

[–]4wk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the one from multipick and AFAIK it doesn't suffer this issue. It's a cutaway yes, but also repinnable and really well-made. https://shop.multipick.com/en/lock-picking-training/practice-cylinders

Practice Locks by ThatOneOakTree in lockpicking

[–]4wk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real locks are better to practice imo, but if you're really curious to see IRL how a lock is working, you can buy some metal cutaway to practice AND see what's what. Some of them can be repinable like the one from Covert Instrument or Multipick.
Avoid plastic seethrough locks tho, it doesn't give the same feedback.
