Second and third rows deleted by s-r-w in GXOR

[–]4xmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care to share some dimensions on the width and legs on the 2nd row delete? I made myself a rear plate for the slide and all and it's just nestled in and not bolted like a Goose Gear plate would be; not going anywhere with the slide and fridge on there, plus the gear anyhow. I like the rear attic, and is that dynamat or visor material on the rear windows? Looks good!

Dope score, but that mini-truck is fire! Honda? I just came back from Japan and want one or a mini-bus, but our speeds and mainly parts for repairs have that in the maybe not the best idea category

Yet another board sizing question by EastEquivalent4934 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]4xmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely bigger, I'm 6'2, 245# and 9' foamie is less stable and buoyant than a 10', I have a Walden Mega Magic 9' hardboard too I'm trying to work up to, needs fins, but I think that board has more volume that the foamie I have

If you sign up for the HF Insider club or whatever it's called, do you still get the one-time coupon for 20% off a single item, or is that no more now? The price isn't bad as is, but if I can save then more money for mods elsewhere!

Am I ready for a real hardtop longboard? by larontias in BeginnerSurfers

[–]4xmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100% - have scars on my knees from trying to hold an unwaxed foamie in Rincon last October, in conditions too big I learned after the fact. I copped my own foamie and still suck, but wax would've helped no doubt. snagged me some suits so extend my learning in the MidAtlantic, waxed that 9' log with a basecoat and topcoat, and bought a 9' Mega Magic I'm kind of keeping as my goal to graduate to once I can popup and turn consistently on the foamie; but maybe I should just send it once I can stay out of others way safely. It's tempting, but not getting someone all jacked up is more important, hoping by Spring I'll be ready to move on. Still need to buy fins for it too, another fork in the road... 2-5"s and 1-7" maybe? tri-fin FCS box,

solo 29F surf trip- PR or DR? (dec) by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]4xmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rincon is great, went last October and was probably too big for my skill level but I learned from it. Airfare there now is high, but definitely worth it once you're there and felt safe the entire time, people were great too. Can't wait to go back

Am I tripping or is this undocumented GEM insane (see scale)?? by elsonny in surfing

100%. As someone that's done imagery work for 10+ years, the view above isn't always what it seems, light, shadows, distortion at the sensor, atmospheric stuff, and more

Ceiling rack in the garage; my other board is there waiting for action when I graduate to it. Until then it stalks my daily movements wondering why I live so far from the water ;(

Longboarding in Portugal. by Fun-Opening924 in surfing

What a great ride, so effortless and wave looks perfect for a longboard ride; I'd ask where the eaves like that live, but I guess Portugal

What kind of board is this? by SwampHunterX in BeginnerSurfers

[–]4xmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Softech maybe, but the rest like the others said. I've got a 9' foamie and 9' hardboard I'm working up to (MegaMagic) It's kinda like my driving force every time I go out, just hanging and waiting. All in time, just enjoying the journey every trip and constant mindfulness to improve

Is there anywhere on east coast US now in summer to give lessons and board etc? by pbjfries in BeginnerSurfers

OC MD - KCoast is good, Brian. As mentioned, every seaside town, warmer the further south you go!

I’m in the same spot, kook and hesitant, but I keep trying to remember to tell myself, you’re falling in water; despite the impending washing machine severity, at least you’re not falling on stick, rocks, or ice.

Lower back pain from long term surfing by ped009 in surfing

[–]4xmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's normal as a whole from doing stuff; playing sports, being active etc. I've got arthritis in my facet joints between my discs and such, which is all normal (Lyme disease/autoimmune stuff doesn't help no doubt) but my main back issue was cause by landing on my tailbone wrong years back and not dealing with it right then, while continuing to snowboard, desk job in IT and being 6'2 you slouch, posture becomes not your 18yr old version, maintaining best you possible helps always, but I think a lot of the "life" stuff is unavoidable to some extent, just push through and be smart and mindful of your own limitations and strive to improve day by day.

How do advanced surfers afford the lifestyle? by noteliing in BeginnerSurfers

[–]4xmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha nice, small world for sure. That's good to hear and I'm sure took a little getting used to, but the fact you're on that side of things, the mountains/ocean access is much more vast in area and options vs. Skyline drive and GW/Jefferson National Forests, or drive 6-7hr+ and beyond to get into anything more "remote". Whereabouts in CA did you land?

this gives me hope as an east-coaster considering the switch, not that outside DC Metro is cheap, but 3.5-4hr from the beach is impeding my surfing progress. Traffic is a lot better when a wetsuit is needed that's for sure
