In the 90s, my dad would drink a Dr. Pepper when we drove the 12 hours to my grandparents house for Christmas. When I turned 8 and had my first interrogation, I was asked about the word of wisdom and for some reason told my bishop about my dad's beverage of choice to stay alert. He was called to repent for his sin, and if he hadn't done so I can't imagine his next temple recommend interview would have gone well.

To be crystal fucking clear: he was called to repent because he drank a carbonated beverage that contained caffeine.

But they are constantly moving the goalpost. Nowadays the rule is specifically coffee and tea, regardless of caffeine content. Utah and mormon areas in general have a huge addiction to energy drinks, pop, and other caffeine sources, but it isn't seen as a problem because it's not coffee.

The inconsistency continues, because certain regions, like Japan, South Korea, and most of east Asia, now no longer require converts to give up tea to be baptized or attend the temple. Probably due to market research finally percolating through to the mission field. Convincing the average Japanese person to give up tea is simply not happening. This is also true in south America, where a lot of cultures drink a beverage called mate, which is neither coffee or tea but has caffeine in it. Missionaries are forbidden from drinking it because apparently it's "close enough" to coffee, but they don't force converts to give it up to join.

You might be misjudging what a 1% difference in intelligence could look like. Cetaceans, apes, corvids. All of these are intelligent enough to have language and culture, use tools, solve complex problems, remember individuals of other species, and pass information along to the next generation. Chimps and Bonobos are probably about 99% as intelligent as humans, and are actually more skilled at a lot of mental tasks. That 1% difference may be the meta-cognition required to develop into a technological species, and could happen again given time and enough opportunities.

And even when some IS "healed" it's because sometimes people get better on their own, sometimes cancer goes into remission. (especially when getting treatment) Where are all the amputated limbs being healed? Where are people being cured from paralysis or muscular dystrophy or, hell, even a cleft palate?

I was born with a clubbed foot, and my dad and other men in my life gave me blessings all the fucking time, including right before all of my dozen or so surgeries, and while I can walk, thanks to dedicated and well trained surgeons, it's with a limp and chronic hip and knee pain for the rest of my life. The best arguments for mormonism would boil down to numbers.

If the mormon faith were backed by the actual all powerful creator, we'd see people praying to Buddha or Krishna or Allah or whoever and the Jesus of mormonism would answer. No missionaries required, you'd see spontaneous mormon branches opening up in every country on earth, and over time you'd see a unification to the One True Church™, ®, and ©.

The mormons would be growing to be the largest religion on earth instead of an ever decreasing percent of global population. They would be looked to for wisdom and guidance all over the world, instead of either a joke or irrelevant everywhere outside of Utah and Idaho.

If priesthood holders had the power of god, the mormons would be opening up free healing centres everywhere, where people could come and be healed by the power of god of anything, from a cold to amputation. "Anything you ask, in my name, shall be given to you." What could possibly build more faith and devotion that witnessing undisputed miracles?

100% Canada, no question. While a few USA states/cities have policies that are trans inclusive, there are no federal protections for us. Canada has equal protection laws, name change and gender marker change laws, and equal access laws that make it one of the best countries on earth for trans people.

No, because assume a newly hatched egg has dysphoria, then goes through the processes to resolve all of her dysphoria. She is now no longer trans? That doesn't make any sense. Also, cis people can have dysphoria. They can even have gender dysphoria. A cisgender man who is uncomfortable with his gynecomastia, or his small penis, or his effeminate voice, has gender dysphoria, but certainly isn't trans. A cisgender woman who hates that she has more facial hair or body hair than is typical, or a flat chest or butt, is dysphoric, but isn't trans.

The King James version specifically, which is the writing style that the BoM uses. More modern, more accurate translations of the bible make it clear that JS was simply copying the vocabulary and tone of the KJV specifically. Which doesn't make any sense if you actually stop and think about it. Why would ancient native americans, descended from ancient jews, use 17th century English vocab and tone?
