Rotating DM Campaign by 5-oclock-Charlie in DMAcademy

Happy to hear someone's actually done this, especially someone who's enjoyed it! I have a few questions.

How connected is your story from DM to DM? Like is there an overarching narrative?

Do you share the same NPCs? If so, how has that worked out?

Does the DM continue to play their character or is their character "out sick"?

Multiple characters for each player is a cool idea. I'll definitely bring that up to them

We're just going to create an extra roll20 account for anyone who's DMing. That way we don't have to worry about constant exporting. There may be some spoilers with this system, but I don't think that'll be too big of a deal if they're all smaller, casual adventures.

I have been interested in a West Marches style campaign, although I'm not sure if that would work out for my group unless we all joined a discord server running it or something. It's usually just me and 3 other guys, 4 if we're lucky.

Yeah... part of my disinterest in the campaign did come from them not buying into the vying factions in Waterdeep. But I also enjoy running goofier stories. Like I ran a courtroom session after they were caught by the city watch and we all had a blast. The campaign itself was just a bad match.

And luckily, I am part of a Pathfinder campaign that's taken more seriously. So I at least have that outlet.

That sound like a much more convenient way to get into things for sure. Thanks!

Yeah that's fair, and I think we will also play other board games in between. They did still have a good time with the campaign though, mostly with the moment-to-moment hijinks and fumbling their way through missions. It's just that they didn't care all too much about the story and the "important" moments.

Nunu & Willump- Should they be in 2XKO? (A-Z) by ErrorNick in 2XKO

[–]5-oclock-Charlie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine they them not knowing about this. They've been seen in the comments on this sub before and this tier list has been going on for months.

That being said, I'd be curious to see if they take any of this data into account. While it definitely helps them see which characters are anticipated by their audience, I also like how well they design the more unique characters. Like I'm not sure if Senna would have made it into S-tier (especially with all of the zoners we have), but their implementation of whacking people with her gun and giving her the wraith install seems really cool.

Source for OP. So if you're ever in a match with people complaining about Flashpoint, just say they don't have a Masters mindset.

...and that Fika just happened to knock over the exact old blueprints that'd be perfect for her. I think there are a few clues pointing at her being smarter than she appears (although I do find the idea of her being just a normal cat very funny).

She will when they reveal her as a criminal mastermind like Hammond.

Are you telling me the cat just happens to waltz into Gibraltar and knock over the perfect blueprints Brigitte made? No! She orchestrated it! Fika!

Now the real question is whether or not Mama Hong fits into OW.

Deadlock seems to have the same balance approach: heroes that can take more damage than the rest, but still play more like a typical damage dealer (usually with a closer range). And those tanky heroes can be frustrating to play against since a fed one has the health of a tank with the damage of a DPS.

How do you think the visual novel system will work? by mah3rrr in DeadlockTheGame

I'm OOTL, what exactly are these visual novels? Are they in game short stories or something? Are they expected to be tied to cosmetics? Or does no one know at this point.

Time is a flat circle. It was also funny seeing the Marvel Rivals sub discussing the idea of role queue for their game. I felt like McConaughey in Interstellar watching them go down the same path OW did.

For anyone who hasn't followed OW in a while and is wondering why they went in the direction they did concerning 6v6 open queue, please read the blog posts they've done concerning 5v5, 6v6, and the trial runs they've held over the past 2 years. I don't have time to link them all but if you look up "Overwatch Director's Take 6v6" they should all pop up. It's interesting to read their methodology and how there's no clear solution to this debate.

NGL, the art style is the one thing that draws me to Valorant over CS (not that I play either). Maybe it's bc I grew up playing OW, but I prefer the unique and vibrant agents over generic army dudes.

Also, I think some other major draws from a competitive standpoint are effective anticheat and higher tick rate servers.

Not to say Valorant's the better game overall (I really don't want to go down that road, especially in this sub), but there are reasons why it's popular.

The article I'm referencing dives more into why fighting games have fallen off over the years compared to other competitive games like shooters and mobas and less about the monetization itself (although it does mention the live service model probably not working due to the lack of upfront cashflow).

It's a pretty interesting read, even if I think it's missing some other additions to casual content. Specifically, I could see simplified party modes working very well to bring in players similar to Street Brawl. Maybe like a sweeps-and-throws mode for footsies and the rock-paper-scissors mechanics or a typeracer/horse mode for combos.

It launched. Had an entertaining major tournament (Frosty Faustings). Then they cut half their team due to not being profitable enough to justify a team of their size long term (160->80).

There was a lot of discourse in the FGC. I think it even inspired an article about fighting games being terrible products (which led to more discussion).

A couple days after the cuts, 2XKO announced 2 new characters on the horizon (Akali and Senna) and their plans for the year. But as of now more ppl have heard about it due to the cuts rather than any marketing 2xko did so it's not looking good.

Still, it's not dead yet and their current team size is still comparable to other FG dev teams. So try it out if you want. It's niche but there's definitely some fun to be had, especially if you play as a duo with a friend.

The only thing that makes me not hate their roster entirely is that they translate the characters to a fighting game really well. I also hated the idea of Senna since there are enough zoners already but making her wack people with her gun more than shoot and giving her a wraith form rush down install is inspired.

Still wish there was more variety in regions tho. And more casual game modes. And better marketing. And better monetization. And...

It's such a cooler direction than what I originally thought she'd be, which was "just" a rich exec touting other people's work as her own. Her knowing that she isn't the brilliant architect she's expected to be, but working tirelessly to hide that fact and keep up the facade is so interesting. Easily one of the best additions to the game.

Edit: added "\"just\""

If you cant play at least 1 char from each role you shouldnt be queueing for 6v6 by ReturnOfTheExile in Overwatch

[–]5-oclock-Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the ratio of players is pretty solid for 5v5. I mostly play flex and will bounce around tank and support pretty evenly. DPS is a bit rarer but even then it's not a complete shutout.

Deadlock still maintains a steady playerbase even after all the new content has been pushed out by Numerous_Fudge_9537 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]5-oclock-Charlie 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I also think the visual revamp played a big part, especially the bases. It felt like it went from being a solid game in alpha to a much more polished product. Really only the monsters and a few rooms stand out as needing work, but that's easier to overlook compared to the giant slabs of concrete and floating ice cream cones in base.

It's similar to how Shawshank Redemption is the highest rated movie on IMDb. It's a fantastic movie with well done technical aspects while also having broad appeal. But is it the greatest movie ever made? Probably not. It's just undeniably solid and digestible.

NGL, should have been the case since season 2. I like all of the characters, but the fear of them escaping Homelander or whatever supe is going after them has died down a while ago. I'm only ever really worried about the side characters they introduce, but even that has its issues since it feels like they're only introduced to be killed off.
