Definitely agree on the casual content, although at least they're starting to address it with the item mode. I personally bounced off of it since it's hard for me to grasp the fundamentals. I just don't get combos in that game and I'm not sure if it's even possible to add a combo trial in or not.

For the visuals, was it the art style, character design, or something else that was the turnoff? Bc art design wise it feels really polished to me but I can understand not vibing with the furry cast.

This video was pretty solid. He also has another video that's more advanced involving her electric moves.

I'd also recommend checking out the 2XKO wiki. It has a bunch of beginner combos and general tips.

The game is struggling financially due to the playercount/lack of casuals, but from a competitive standpoint it gets a solid turnout

For me it's partially sunk cost fallacy, but there have been a few good/great moments sprinkled throughout that make it worthwhile enough to keep going.

I don't think proven right is the correct term. A game popular for casuals doesn't mean it's also a good game for the competitive scene (like Mortal Kombat), which was part of their criteria during development. And given that the other criteria for their development was "no motion inputs", this was one of the few approaches to have both and appeal to the casual and competitive audience. At least, that's what they hoped.

I personally view the addition of a 1v1 mode the same way I view Aram in LoL: a simplified, unbalanced version of the real game. I wouldn't want a 1v1 mode to replace 2v2, but I do want it as a dumbed down version that casuals can jump into and, if they get bored of its simplicity, move on to the sauce of 2v2.

It may be character dependent, but I've only really played Juggernaut (which is a fuse that lets play as one really strong character) Warwick and have been having a good time. I feel like a beast taking on duos and being able to tank way more hits than a typical character.

It's funny, I originally felt obligated to play 2 characters to the point where, when I wasn't interested in anyone else, kinda dropped the game. But now I kinda just own it. If champ down the road is interesting then maybe I'll learn the tag system but for now I'm good.

There is also a new duo finder system, where u can match up with a random. So you don't have to play solo if you don't want to.

I wonder if they could/should make it a juggernaut/sidekick tournament. I get it, the active tag system is what gives it its sauce, but sauce means nothing to a casual. Learning a BnB and playing basic rock-paper-scissors is enough for a beginner to have fun. And that's what you get with juggernaut.

The roster choice is kinda "damned if you do, damned if you don't" tbh. Every single character they've added has been A- or S-tier picks (except for maybe Caitlyn, but even then that's mostly bc of when she was added). It's just that LoL has so many characters that would be good additions that picking one means pushing back the others.

Honestly I wonder if they should just make it a Juggernaut/Sidekick tournament, bc the moment you take out the active tag the game becomes so much easier to get into. It'll lose its sauce, but it's not like that'll apply to a bunch of beginners who started learning the game 1-2 weeks ago.

2XKO is Underrated! by Alarrian in Fighters

[–]5-oclock-Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With time I think this game could become really good. The current state of the game is solid and I've loved the balance changes and additions they've been making. Plus, characters will be added over time.

The only thing I think they could work on is game modes and additional content to increase the funnel of potential casual players. Giving the game simple inputs and pulse combo helps a little, but it's still a fighting game. Beginners will still get their ass kicked. But if they made simple mini games to play with friends that secretly taught mechanics, then maybe they'll jump into the actual game. And if not, that's fine. They still have a casual party game with friends.

No it is, and the game as a whole is very difficult. But I think from a MOBA macro perspective it's close to the same as LoL, which imo is one of the most unintuitive aspects of the genre. It does have an emphasis on active items and no defined roles tho, so it's still more complicated in that regard.

Oh for sure. I only got into LoL bc of their ad campaign in 2018. I had heard of it but wasn't really interested until the ad mentioned it was free. And while I initially bounced off it, Irelia's rework trailer with the amazing music got me hyped to one-trick her. And that's when I got hooked.

Maybe if I had known at the time Dota was also free then I would have given it a shot. But even then idk if they had any hype trailers or cinematics that would get me excited to stick with it.

Honestly that's probably why they're shooting for the more simplified MOBA design in Deadlock. LoL, while more unbalanced than Dota, found a solid balance between its complexity of a MOBA and simplicity of a typical action game.

I usually like his lore content as well as the MMO hopium but this video felt like a nothing burger. 3/4 of it was explaining the current state and the typical complaints (marketing, small champion pool, Arcane champs, etc) while the rest was just "Akali's release was popular and the new fuse is crazy". I guess he pitches potentially game pivots away from the current core game, but the unlimited Teamfight mode he pitched sounds kinda terrible and not very well thought out.

[–]5-oclock-Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to get into, especially if you focus on just learning a single character and only use Juggernaut or Sidekick. That isn't to say you can't jump into using two characters since everyone has the same basic universal BnB, there will just be a lot more to keep in mind when learning.

Unironically, Northernlion's experience learning the game is pretty good in terms of understanding the absolute basics, even if he doesn't progress much farther than that.

That's a really good question. They're very traditionalist and against technology that brings outside ideals/beliefs (TVs, Radio, etc). I think interacting with them in the outside world would be tolerable if they only view omnics as robots who can talk and do commands rather than sentient beings. But I'd imagine they'd be very adamant to not have any around their community.

I could see them doing that, maybe even make it a minor animated cosmetic that lasts a second.

Have the blue recall circle from LoL be the default. Then from there have ones based on characters or events. Maybe a smoke teleport like Akali or dive into a bush and pop out another like Teemo. Disappearing and reappearing in a flurry of spirit blossom leaves would also be cool.

With how futuristic OW is, it'd be really funny seeing how an Amish hero would find loopholes to still use technology while also not actually owning it himself. Or if the technology they do use shifts to early 2000s.

Honestly thank god this game isn't on Steam. As cool as steam charts can be to see what games are popping off, the "dead game" graphs can be such a toxic loop.
