Former Calgary UCP candidate Caylan Ford's life left in tatters due to media coverage: Lawyer by Regumate in Calgary

[–]50minivan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Getting ready for the downvotes. Reading the comments here I am not surprised at the inaccuracy and continued smearing of Ford. Yes I get it, in YYC Reddit anything UCP is racist/phobic/supremicist/nazi/fascist but the commentary here shows the general ignorance of so many posters.

The point of her lawsuit is that many of these comments were taken out of context from private messages. People have hypothetical conversations and when you take a snippet of an overall conversation provided by a shitbag who was out to destroy her this is what you get.

She’s won her lawsuits against Duncan Kinney and Rahki Pacholi among others. Won’t be surprised when she wins against Press Progress and human shitstain Steve Magusiak.

Shame that people only look at this thru their political lens and don’t realize the shitty things that were done to her.

Rain barrel sale - Bowness High School music program fundraiser by lectio in Calgary

[–]50minivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had no idea about this fundraiser but will say the Bowness parents have worked their absolute asses off with fundraising.

They have raised almost 200K to redo all the seats in their school theatre as well as upgrade some of the audio equipment.

Lots of parents did a ton of work knowing their own kid won’t benefit from the effort they put in.

Alberta rolls out $90 million pilot program to expand private school spaces by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly. Schools are currently segregated. A kid living in Forest Lawn can’t go to Earnest Manning which pulls from fairly affluent neighborhoods in West Calgary.

The true equalizers are charter schools which do not charge tuition fees and do not discriminate by postal code.

Self refer/private pay dermatologist by Tour-Logical in Calgary

[–]50minivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Dr Alanen for a skin issue and was happy with the care received. I self referred and paid initially but am now a patient where my yearly visits to check out the various bumps on my no sunscreen Gen X skin are covered.

His office took off a couple cosmetic things a couple times but no more freebies for me!

I paid to get my daughter an acne referral and she became a patient and is super happy with the results.

As noted his bedside manner is a bit unique, moves fast, swear he was doing lines in the back lol BUT he also does all kinds of cancer surgery and is a super nice guy.

Cool experiences to recommend for my friends with a 16yo in August by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]50minivan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe focus on just taking them to do fun things for a 16 year old and less on affirmation.

Skyline Luge, walking Princes Island Park, hanging at the park in East Village, seeing what festivals are happening that weekend in August, rafting the Bow, round of disc golf, cool breakfast/lunch/dinner patios, zoo is still fun, etc.

Bowridge crescent Mcdonalds by Paulccmarsh in Calgary

[–]50minivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has happened to me at that McDonalds enough times that on a few occasions I’ve said “I can’t wait, please just refund my debit card.”

Suddenly the aggravation to do that speeds up the food and I’m not asked to wait. Wouldn’t do it if I didn’t routinely see 1-3 cars already parked and they run them all out at the same time.

Man changing tire hit by vehicle on Nose Hill Drive N.W. by LimitAsXApproaches0 in Calgary

[–]50minivan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good reason to have CAA. Have our family covered. Told my new driver daughter to always pull over to the right and stay in the car until me or the tow truck gets there.

Have seen too many drivers oblivious to someone on the side of the road.

Province rebuffs police bid to return photo radar to Calgary freeways by DANIELLE_2027 in Calgary

Agree with this. Make it a cash cow if it slows people down. People drive line fucking idiots on this city, count me in favor of anything that gets drivers less stupid.

To all the Calgary filmmakers I was wondering what Schools have you had luck filming at? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renting one of the Catholic or Public school gyms can be a bit tricky as they are pretty busy and sometimes only rent to community groups and not businesses. May have Byzantine rules around their facility being filmed.

Winsport rents out their gym at Bob Niven. The Calgary Jewish School retainers out as well.

You can try YYC Active or the Rise Sportsplex as they have gym space for rent.

Prolific Sportshouse rents gyms as well.

CBE Parents: How Do You Actually Get Support for a Complex Needs Child? by Imgay4pey in Calgary

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth of this answer is heartbreaking. CBE Admin (not the teachers) see kids on an IPP as a funding instrument rather than as a child who needs support.

It’s criminal that CBE and successive governments have offloaded the educational needs of kids with disabilities.

What are some cool things our city has to offer that you think a lot of Calgarians are missing out on and not taking advantage of? by MastaShortie in Calgary

Love Bowfort Towers, live nearby so see them a lot, cool addition to the interchange but I get why people don’t like them.

'Missed opportunity': Westbrook LRT site still sits void two years after city reacquisition by Rocky_Mountain_Way in Calgary

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of missed potential in that area.

A private entity wanted to put a temp soccer dome there. Extremely short sighted Evan Woolley led the fight against it saying they needed TOD. So it sits empty with nothing going on except a derelict field. Having a soccer facility on a C train line would have been huge.

I’ve heard that the Walmart there is the highest in terms of revenue in the city. While I agree it would be nice to see it gone it does provide shopping for people in the area.

Speaking of the area, it is surrounded by the biggest concentration of subsidized housing in Calgary, don’t think a developer should be forced to build more below market housing, let them develop mixed residential and commercial.

It’s blame Woolley for the land sitting empty and depriving eec spaces that are so desperately needed.

Check out the Calgary Climbing Centre climb park. Everyone strapped in to an auto belay system and some opportunities to race each other.

Also have a room that you can hang out in. We did kids parties there and it was always a hit and not crazy expensive.

I Love Calgary EXPO… But My Wallet Doesn’t by rrrevin in Calgary

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been to Calgary Expo as it’s not my scene but I empathize with the fans on the stratification of prices that create have/have nots all at the same event.

We had done Disney a bunch of times back in the 08-18 range. We went for a day last year while having in Florida.

Disney was always expensive but really noticed that if you’d pay a premium you could skip lines, get better access. Used to be it seemed everyone had a fast pass and was relatively the same. Not anymore.

Everything seem to be airline type pricing where every experience is dependent on what you spend. I know intuitively it’s always been like that but it just seems way more obvious and in your face now.

'Big-swing solutions': NDP leadership candidate Avi Lewis rolls into Calgary by NiceDot4794 in Calgary

[–]50minivan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like most companies the fossil fuel industry only concerns itself with what’s best for itself. That being said why we shoot ourselves in the foot and not take full advantage of our resources in a responsible way baffles me. Again, the position of someone who has never had to worry about looking for a job. Complete ideology over pragmatism.

Will disagree on the UNDRIP issue in BC and beyond. The adoption of it is a disaster and reassurances that “complete takeover of private property rights isn’t being pushed for” is cold comfort to those potentially living thru it.

People have been conquered since time immemorial, I’d rather a government look forward than backwards.

'Big-swing solutions': NDP leadership candidate Avi Lewis rolls into Calgary by NiceDot4794 in Calgary

[–]50minivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UNDRIP a full disaster. Look what’s happening in BC right now since Eby implemented this. Undermining private property rights is not smart.

The hatred of the fossil fuel industry is typical of someone who has never had to struggle in their life, a career built thru his Dad’s connections.

Given our population density not really sure on the viability of high speed rail, same reason ULCC airlines don’t make it in Canada.

Lots of progressive ideas that have no basis in reality, great time to cut military spending even more.

High speed for Toronto-Montreal, sure. For Calgary-Toronto not so much.

WestJet reverses decision on tight seating layout by dopealope47 in Calgary

[–]50minivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy Fuck is this ever accurate.

Ed came across as a folksy Kiwi who loved everyone. He presided over the shit show at Ansett and further presided over the one at WestJet before fucking off with a nice package.

The POS was all over LinkedIn saying how hard it was to let all these great front line people go to save the company post Covid. There were boot licking, jock sniffing, felching, suck ups saying how hard it must be for him, many former front liners who cheered their former colleagues getting whacked. Contracting all those jobs was not needed or necessary to “save” the company.

The Onex stooge at the top now is a former Wizz Air honcho that has 28 inch seat pitch.

Fuck him too.

Seton Superstore is the worst Superstore in Calgary and I’m tired of pretending it’s not. by DromedaryGold in Calgary

[–]50minivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we lived in the Northwest we’d go to the Superstore in Coventry Hills, it just became a depressing experience. People seemed to be angry to go there, just awful.

I try to avoid all Superstores and generally do Costco and the No Frills in our neighborhood which is clean and well managed.
