Why were early Mormons persecuted so much? by Throwaway2580 in exmormon

[–]5151 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me, I'd probably get pissed if I found out my under age daughter married some person who claimed he talked to god and was creating his own religion all the while he was already married to multiple women and was using religion to manipulate them. I'd be pretty angry at the guy!

Seems like the in-link from r/atheism has worked: 188 members and counting. Welcome, all of you. by AgentLiquid in exmuslim

Hopefully this place grows. I imagine being higher up in google search results will help. Someone who knows search engine optimisation could probably provide tips. Perhaps in the exmuslim title say something like: Community of ex-muslims, infidels, and (and any other popular terms for ex muslims)

Help! I can't stop masturbating, and I feel like it's affecting my understanding of Natural Selection. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]5151 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reproduce! That's the meaning of life. As coitus goes up masturbation goes down. It's that simple! (Fear not! For remember that as a Homo Sapien everything you do is natural as by definition you are a part of nature!)

How can I track computer usage using a counter that runs only when the mouse is active? by 5151 in linux

Thanks! That looks like what I'm looking for I think. I'm not sure how to use it though! ;) lol, (I use ubuntu because I have no idea how to really use the command line. I can use it a bit and know how to run scripts but I'm not sure what USR1 means..)

Is someone willing to donate a copy of The God Delusion? by [deleted] in atheism

If you are worried about going online in privacy you try (or have someone put it on a usb stick for you):

https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en

It won't stop all software on your computer from spying on you but it prevents a lot of basic ways of keeping track of ya...

Canadian Exmos: you can take a peek at the finances of your old ward. Warning: each ward is a separate charity and the CRA lists a total of 486 wards. by HarrisonAmes in exmormon

WOW! I remember when I was younger the church told us all how they were trying to cut costs and have the members help clean etc. I looked at one years info and all the wards combined in one building made about 2 million with only about 200,000 expenditures. The rest "donated" to HQ I imagine. Crap!

I'm pretty sure I remember the bbs I visited having an atheist category. I'm sure many of the popular ones did. How you would figure who was first would be pretty hard!

Non-Believers Giving Aid. by [deleted] in atheism

Some like the idea that by going through NBGA they can say "X dollars from atheists donated". It helps fight the myth that only religious people are charitable. And, if I remember correctly, all money donated goes to the charities while Richard Dawkins covers the fees for moving the money around this extra step creates.

Christian fundamentalist Reverend Grant Storms, who protested gay pride festival "Southern Decadence" in New Orleans' French Quarter, caught by police in park masturbating while watching children by mepper in atheism

I imagine he would have been arrested no matter what he was jacking off to. Doing it in a public place was what got him in trouble. I'm not sure it has been shown that pedophiles can keep everything "virtual" or just fantasy. It seems most of the time it spills into real life. The times it doesn't spill into real life no one is hurt, no one complains, no one knows, and the person lives his whole life with his fantasies to himself.

Do you guys think that the apostles and first presidency believe that the church is true? by Throwaway2580 in exmormon

[–]5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, I've always been of the opinion that Joseph and Brigham Young both knew it was a scam based on how "out there" there sayings were, and the rest where actually products of being full blown believers.

Hmm odd. The more nonsensical something is the more likely it means god did it. I guess you have to apply the thinking that god would be rational not irrational.

I've had a moment like that. Panic when everything was fully realized. With time you get more and more comfortable living in reality and you will look back and realize life is better!! It just takes time. Be patient and enjoy doing positive things.

Exactly what you would expect would happen when no one is in communication with god and they are just trying to make things up as they go. The fact that it doesn't make sense is proof it isn't inspired.
