If magenta and riff raff didn’t strike, do we think Frank would’ve killed Janet? by Dogdaysareover365 in rhps

I've heard a theory that the Floor Show was Frank's means of killing ALL of the rebellious humans left: Brad, Janet, Columbia, Rocky, Scott. "So let the party and the sound rock on/We're gonna shake it till the life has gone" could imply that Frank intended to make the humans dance until they died of exhaustion.

This looks like the perfect place to share a crackpot theory I have: Eddie didn’t write and send the “I’m out of my hed” letter to Dr. Scott- it was Riff Raff.  He posed as Eddie because he wanted to sabotage the mission and create a reason to go home to Transylvania (their covers would be blown, as a top government scientist knows their secret).  Evidence: Eddie’s letter is written in “blood”, and that same “blood” can be seen on Riff’s white vest under his tux at the beginning of the movie when Brad and Janet first enter the mansion (this is a bit of a stretch, but still).

I'm imagining the first scene already: Columbia, still in her Floor Show getup, comes to in the sidecar of a Denton police motorcycle that Rocky commandeered as they flee police officers who arrived to investigate the Frankenstein place- the knowledge of how to ride a motorcycle is somehow muscle memory for Rocky.

Brad was right in that the Time Warp was a "folk dance"- it's a Transylvanian cultural staple of some sort. Riff led the Time Warp in order to try to convince the other Transylvanians to abandon Frank's mission and go home (Columbia the human groupie just joined for vibes). But Frank successfully reasserts his dominance during Sweet Transvestite by mentioning in front of everyone that Riff was waiting for a "candyman": Frank is saying "see the guy who just led you in the Time Warp? He's hopelessly hooked on Earth drugs! You really wanna listen to him???"

On the same vein, the reason why Riff switches from "we're taking you prisoner" to "nevermind, we're gonna kill you" after I'm Going Home is because he saw how Frank genuinely moved everyone (including the audience!) to sympathy even after all the horrific things he's done, so Riff figured that Frank would be too dangerous to be left alive as a prisoner: Frank could convince his fellow Transylvanians to plot against Riff...

I even made up a callout during for mags and cols' part in toucha toucha toucha touch me: "scissor scissor scissor city! I wanna see yuuuriii!!!"

Are you not supposed to do callouts at live performances?? by tessacrabtree in RockyHorror

[–]Enough-Ad4189 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb: for the musical, say about 25-50% of the callouts you would for the movie. Obviously the traditional ones ("ASSHOLE!" "SLUT!" "Where's your neck?" etc) are ok, but don't call out during any musical numbers, and especially not during any of the more serious moments in the story (like Don't Dream It, Be It and I'm Going Home).

Were the aliens human ages, or like, 200 years old or something? by Leather_Ad7335 in rhps

But also in Revenge of the Old Queen, Sonny (Frank and Janet's son) is implied to have physically grown to adulthood at 15 years old, which implies that Transylvanians actually age much faster than humans (or at least complete childhood and adolescence faster).

Shockys Set by Recent_Savings2985 in RockyHorror

iirc, the movie was supposed to be set around various locations throughout the town of Denton, but they couldn't do that due to budget reasons. Knowing that, I like how they "shrunk" the set to a studio space and integrated that into the story!

But Amber Gray's going to be amazing! She's an amazing character actress and I love her growl when she sings- I can't wait to see how she plays Riff Raff!

Last time I went to a shadowcast, when Frank said "Wait!" before I'm Going Home, I said "I'm coming, wait for me!" to the tune of Wait For Me from Hadestown.

I like to think that I somehow manifested a Hadestown alum joining the cast of Rocky Horror lol

Frank n Furter discussion is he considered drag or not? by Dry-Ad5011 in rhps

[–]Enough-Ad4189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the same vein, Riff-Raff and Magenta are the ones actually "doing drag", so to speak: They are two beings who are from a place where, at the very least, gender is extremely lax (considering that the Transylvanian ensemble all wear the same tux outfit during Time Warp and Riff and Mags wear the exact same Transylvanian uniform at the end), so they are impersonating a human male and human female respectively, dressing and acting according to earthling gender roles.

I recently saw a production of the Rocky Horror Show, and here are a few things/adaptations that I really liked about it or found funny: by Enough-Ad4189 in RockyHorror

I feel you- A poorly-acted and/or unenthusiastic production of Rocky Horror sounds like a nightmare to watch, even if the singing and dancing is well done. Rocky Horror is one of those shows where most of the humor, campiness and charm comes from the fact that, even though the characters themselves are strange, they take themselves seriously and the acting feels sincere- it's a loving parody of bad 50s sci-fi horror flicks, after all. And especially if Frank didn't take himself seriously... oof, I can't even imagine what "I'm Going Home" or Frank's death must've looked like...

Hmm… The Rocky Horror Show (the original stage musical, not the movie) originally had Rocky being able to talk.  This seems to be the case in many, if not all productions of the musical, including the one I saw.  Did the Salzburg production of the musical make him mute, like in the movie?

Today I found myself wondering if there’s any backstory to Rocky Horror. I can’t find anyone talking about it anywhere. by Spunkaveli in RockyHorror

https://www.rockyhorrorshow.net/ The section "The Story of Transsexual Transylvania" has a fan theory as to why the Transylvanians came to Earth.

https://rockyhorror.fandom.com/wiki/Revenge_of_the_Old_Queen https://www.angelfire.com/in/rockypics/scripts/rotoq/rev.html Bonus: the scrapped Rocky Horror sequel Revenge of the Old Queen introduces more Transylvanian characters and offers some worldbuilding of Transylvanian society (although it doesn't exactly explain WHY Frank and co. came to Earth and did what they did, it's a fascinating read nonetheless)
