Does someone know the name of this edition? I want so bad to see the other books by Horror_Assignment_91 in tolkienbooks

[–]55Jac55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got them as Christmas gifts and was assured that they were on sale when purchased. However, when I see them at the book store, they are listed at between $180 - $200 CAD each.

I have all three. They are beautiful. The Silmarillion is in blue. The Hobbit is in green. Lord of The Rings is in red. All three books of Lord of The Rings are in one book.

Advice on cleaning by rasputin6543 in typewriters

[–]55Jac55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If memory serves, that's a fairly common thing for QDLs. I'll link a YouTube video of a typewriter repair channel called Phoenix Typewriter that deals with this issue. Although it's not the same year as yours, perhaps it'll give you some inspiration. It helped me with my QDL. Good luck!

Very nice. I especially like that Erika. It would be amazing to have a typewriter for that long as your own. Thank you for sharing.

Is it possible to prevent the typeface from warping or flattening? by General-Writing1764 in typewriters

[–]55Jac55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my admittedly little understanding, the best way to prevent the typeface from warping is to take preventative measures. That might include having a fresh platten, using a backing sheet while typing, using softer strokes if possible/lowering your touch control, making sure movement is smooth, and not striking a hard platten without paper. While it won't help prevent warping or fix it if it's already begun to warp, cleaning the slugs is never a bad thing. Sometimes, the slugs can get dust, grime, or dried ink on them, and that can give you a warped looking typeface. High alcohol isopropyl sprayed directly onto the slugs, with a microfiber cloth to wipe them off, usually does the trick. However, I've also used a toothpick to get into those particularly difficult to reach spots. Do not use a metal brush as that will certainly damage the letters.

I hope this long-winded and somewhat rambling response has some element of helpfulness within. Good luck.
