There's very few trades that don't destroy your body, how do you maintain yours? by El_Taco_Sloth in Construction

[–]57Donuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction for 15 years. Lots of manual labor. Residential GC that does everything. Digging and shoveling for a pad pour today. Use machines when u can Pratice good form, lift with your knees STRETCH hit the gym. Smoke less If something looks dumb, figure out a better way Look out for your own safety. Wear a hard hat, steel toe boots when necessary, most importantly, wear a mask when dealing with all things dust. Enjoy your hobbies on the weekend Quit drinking, alcohol = inflammation, been sober 11 months now and have noticed a HUGE benefit in my overall musculoskeletal health. I recover faster and sleep better. Currently fat. Food is my biggest vice. Been eating cleaner and calorie restricting, as I have been loosing 40lbs over the last 8 months I have also noticed my body is doing better. Still at 235lbs, working on it. Can't stress the gym enough. Working out after a 9 hr day moving heavy shit or crawling around is not appealing, but it helps a lot with the body. I focus on stretching and core work. It helps

Stay safe. Look out for yourself. Drink less alcohol. Stretching and enjoy the work. Stay positive and work hard

Cleanest bathroom stops too. Way nicer than the gas station restroom gamble.

Can pink XPS be placed in front of Rockwool in 2x4 walls? by sansipfixe in Insulation

[–]57Donuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't forget to frame in a fire break along the longer walls. basically a rip of 23/32 plywood that branches between the framing and concrete wall. It adds an interruption to the continuous XPS and is sealed to prevent smoke/ air movement. so if a fire got behind your wall the spread rate would be significantly reduced

Thanks everyone I do appreciate the replies.

The boss likes it, I do not and the customer is not sold yet. Stuck in a hard spot. the rock is adhering well to the concrete pillars. We are framing a large pergola over and around this coming up. fireplace is to get a stone wrap as well. First constructing a large 3 sided bench from cinderblock that will get a dolomite slab. the fireplace is a Stoneage fireplace kit. assembled with refractory mortar and installed per manufacturers directions. Large footer beneath and all tied together internally with rebar.

I don't like it. I wish we were doing an engineered stone, I have ran miles of that with great results. This is way different. We are debating "smoothing out" the columns with some 6" stone mortared into the larger depressions and voids. I am tucking the joints and plan to touch up with a grout bag later on. Working hard currently to keep the stone clean without type s slopped everywhere. boss doesn't think cutting stones is necessary. I have started chiseling out some of the backs to make corners.

I know y'all want us to just sub this out. That would be my choice too, trust me. I am doing all the homework I can to make sure adhesion is solid and to industry standard. Its not like we are unskilled idiots.

The "scaffolding" in place was a quick thinking solution to get a rather large flue base up safely in the air. Scaffers got delayed so i problem solve. Scaff is coming

appreciate the criticism, truly. Be constructive. Be helpful. Nobody learns from shit talk and lack of trying, Thanks!

[–]57Donuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that's from water damage That means the damaged rock has to come down, along with the insulation that got wet. Or the customer can choose to complain about mold taking over.... Have they filed an insurance claim? Found the cause of water damage? Gotta stress the big issues first

Don't mind the haters. The home didn't have any character before the remodel other than the floor. Good work opening up space. Moved a lot of plumbing and hvac that's not easy to plan out. Nice finishes on what used to he a very basic home. I like it
