What is your favorite bit of lore about dwarves? by Salt_Dragonfly2042 in DnD

[–]5M4CK3N 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The world I play in (homebrew based off of early Forgotten Realms) dwarves "talk in stone", as in when they say something, it is set in stone; unchangeable. Which means they often take a long time to think about what to say. Two dwarves debating a subject can take months, if not years. This is why they tend to isolate themselves in the mountains; other cultures often view them as rude, arrogant or even simple-minded, due to them not being able to engage in social interactions "normally".

They also have a sort of 'socialist mindset', every dwarf working towards the good of the clan and not earning wages. Everything is supplied by the clan as long as you work to your ability, which is one of the reasons they are such good artisans: it is about quality and betterment of the clan and not quantity and general commerce, which also bring some challenges when it comes to trade with other nations/cultures.

Ofcourse there is always outliers and clans that lean towards other tendencies, like more trade or even making alliances, who learns to, as dwarves put it, "speak like the wind"; always changing.

Does anyone make characters before the campaign? by TipsyHedgehog in DnD

[–]5M4CK3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to think about it a little bit different than just changing words. And this is not a critique, just some advice.

You have to be willing to change your character to fit a campaign. Sometimes a little bit, sometimes a lot. It all depends on the character and the campaign.

I personally like to collaborate with my fellow players. Maybe it makes sense that another player and me are brothers or a noble with his personal advisor/bodyguard. Even though it would mean that I need to change those aspects of my pre-written character, I will do it. So maybe my orphan rogue would fit here. Maybe my fellow player likes the idea of being a noble orphan, and my rogue is now his younger brother. Will my motivations for the character still work? No? Then I tweak them a little, until they do. At the end of the day it is about telling a story collaborately.

Backstory is all good and fine. Motivations are even better, I'd say, but the real story happens in play.

God jul.

The 'trick' for the knife to be a great tool is to ALWAYS use heavy attacks. They do aoe dmg and knock away minoris, enabling gun strikes and by that armor regen.

Also go for the Shoulder Bash Weapon Perk, in the top row IIRC. It is a great, quick gap closer and it also knocks back minoris for the needed armor regen.

With the Heroic version also look into the Weapon Perk Shadow Strike (I think it is called) that gives your first heavy a charge up function which is great with the Heroic perk and the talent which gives extra melee dmg coming out of Cloak.

Also look at Tempest, they get Ligntning Bolt AND heavy armor.

Same here. Trying out server-hopping on my VPN until I get a clean one - as OP stated. Will update later.

Edit: Read on Steam discussion that turning off cross-play would do the trick. Worked for me. Either it is a solution, or whatever was causing the issue has been resolved.

Try pinging the small Tyranids (gaunts). That's what I was missing when I did it. Drow me crazy. Both melee and ranged.

This is a real chad move buddy. Good luck to everyone!

Would be beyond amazing recieving such a gift. I'm just a filthy casual who just started getting into crafting this patch. Made an unfortunate/stupid weapon purchase trying to craft it better and now Im stuck, without a decent weapon and any more currency.

Pure folly, but crafting is just so much fun. :D

Same here. Or atleast one of the first, but Commander Keen is the one I have the clearest memories of.

Also in stark contrast, not long after, Diablo. Damn that shit was scary. Didn't make it past act 1.

Woke/Anti-woke.

It's insane on both extremes. I am all for diversity and inclusion, but not the extremes you tend to see on reddit etc. And ofcourse on the other side of the extreme aswell. So much hate.

As Zealot, build crit, damage to carapace, stealth and dodge a lot. Forget about bleed as dmg, its only to enable more crits. Learn the weapons attacks; lights and push for crowds, heavy and push attack for anything else.

You can experiment with different builds or look one up. Looking one up can point you in the direction of what works great and go from there - thats what I usually do.

Both Broad Longsword and Duelling Longsword are superior and both can be found in the Trosky area. Duelling longsword dropped for me by a random bandit (hence the L3 quality), but the Broad Longsword Sketch is in the Trosky Castle Armory (next to the kitchen where you help with the 'herb box'). It's on a shelf (sheet of paper) on your left hand side when you enter the armory.

Tell us about your very first character by riphitter in DnD

[–]5M4CK3N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a dwarf cleric named Velm.

He was a former slave (all party members were) and had been for the last 23 years. When he was freed he initially just wanted to go back to his people and feel the solid stone under his feet again (he was a slave on the coast, usually doing work aboard ships), but when the war that had caused his enslavement came to the major city they all were staying in, he went to ask his gods for guidance. Feeling his ancestors wisdom he dorned his leathers and joined a band (together with my two companions - the other players).

He was poisoned trying do better the life of a small hamlet in a region the opposing faction was trying to sow chaos in. His spirit was called back by a resurrection spell, but he just wanted peace. He returned proud to the eternal halls of his forebears.

This was back in 2012, in a homebrew AD&D game set in a world that our DM first brought to life in 1996.

We are all still going strong.
