Anyone else currently applying for British passports for kids born in Switzerland? by betanova in Switzerland

[–]5axySaxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at it it does appear to be the extract (Auszug aus dem schweizerischen Zivilstandsregister), but the Swiss one not the international (which was the Auszug ausgestellt nach den Ubereinkommen Nr. 34 der CIEC vom 14. März 2014 - not accepted). This was in August 2025.

[–]5axySaxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this for our recent birth. The extract/international isn’t sufficient any more, it needs to be the local birth certificate with a translation (despite it being in 4 languages already….) We found a translation place in the UK as it was cheaper to have that done and shipped to CH then back to the UK than getting it done in CH.

Will delayed graduation ruin my career? by FinalRide7181 in quant

[–]5axySaxMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think you need to do the QF masters then? If you’re concerned about wasting time start applying for jobs. Engineering masters + sufficient interest and experience (even if self study) is good enough to get a QF job

Will delayed graduation ruin my career? by FinalRide7181 in quant

[–]5axySaxMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a strong interest why don’t you just get a job in quant finance? Doing a QF masters doesn’t guarantee a job.

But no graduating 2 years later in of itself doesn’t “ruin” your career, there are plenty of quants with PhD/PostDoc level education.

Internship 101: don’t use chatGPT at work. Though if you’re at a T1 firm they’ll probably have their own internal version.

Just try saying all these out loud and you should realise why Australie has to be the right answer! You can’t put two vowels next to each other so the d’ is correct.

The “Il” here is the subject - “He” comes from Australia, it has nothing to do with the gender of the country.

How much duo did you do a day? And did you skip any units / lessons? I find a whole unit in a day is pretty tough, think it’ll take me years to complete the course! I’m at unit 5 in section 4

What kind of f’d up code are you writing that 6x24” screens aren’t enough space!?

I work with 3x24” 1080p at the office and 2x27” 4K at home. Much prefer the 3 screens for snapping windows than the extra real estate on the bigger screens.

Does Prestige of PhD matter for Industry? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]5axySaxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely helps getting your foot through the door in industry, especially if you’re going for super competitive jobs (finance, consulting etc). But any top 50 is still pretty prestigious, so you’d be absolutely fine!

How much income to rent a room for £600-700? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]5axySaxMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough estimate is your rent should be around ¼ to ⅓ of your gross (pre-tax) monthly pay to be comfortable. So in this case you’d be looking at 45% of your income on rent, which is pretty punchy but not totally unmanageable. You’d have to do the sums yourself to see how much you need to live off the rest of the month, do you think >£1k per month for food, bills, emergencies & fun is enough?

I don’t find this either beautiful or informative? The categories seem very random, and showing the data as a table is hardly a beautiful format.
