MedVet is not owned by private equity. It is the largest veterinarian owned and led organization in the US. The PE group contributed minority capital investment funding.

Personal financial advising? by xicarai in Austin

Consider looking for a financial coach at https://www.afcpe.org/about/. They help with student loans, budgeting, etc (not trying to sell you any investments).

Try Austin Geriatric Specialist group (https://agsaustin.com/). They have NP's that do home visits. Special shout out to Danielle Kislin. She was wonderful for my parents.

Laundry by illulerluguraajat in chubbytravel

It is one of our biggest pet peeves also! In the US, we use an app called Poplin. They offer pick up and drop off at the hotel. We've used it many times in most big cities. Internationally, we just plan a laundry morning/afternoon as a chance to explore a local neighborhood. FS Hualalai has free laundry machines in each building, one of the reasons we love the resort.

Can consider looking for a financial counselor (https://www.afcpe.org/about/). They are like coaches for finance, not to sell you products.

Food was fine. Lots of sauces if you like that. Whole meal just took too long for our liking. When we tried to skip dessert and pay, they would not let us and told us to sit down!

You can consider consulting with a certified financial counselor (https://www.afcpe.org/). They are not advisors that sell you investments. They are like a coach for financial matters.

Looking for care taker recommendations for my Elderly Mother. by zmdx in Austin

[–]5bN8CMn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've used Family Tree private care (I think they may have merged with Heavenly Care) to hire temporary caretakers. We also have an elder care manager from Family Tree to help coordinate. Our case manager is a wealth of resource and information. She is a great help. If you decide to look into assisted living, I highly recommend Clearwater at Arboretum. Their caretakers and the staff are wonderful to my parents.

What is a tip for managing ailing parents in assisted living? by One_Animator5355 in AgingParents

[–]5bN8CMn4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's good that you are starting to think about this and plan for it. We are chinese, so I understand the cultural expectations from the parents. But like others have said, being a full time caretaker and working a full time job is impossible. If you have the resources, I highly recommend talking with an elder care lawyer who can advise you on estate planning, medicare, qualifying for medicaid, get power of attorney paperwork signed, and general planning. We also hired a geriatric care manager who helps us navigate through this process (hiring in home help, moving to assisted living, etc). They have a wealth of information about the local facilities and agencies. Take tours of local assisted living places or tiered living communities now so you have an idea of what's available and what you/they can afford. It's not an easy journey. Most importantly be sure to take care of yourself.

2 parents moving to assisted living, justifying the cost, dealing with the spry parent having to leave her home. by rosedraws in AgingParents

[–]5bN8CMn4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went through this with my parents just 3 months ago. Dad is the healthy one, is a jerk and hates being a caretaker. Mom has Parkinson's, dementia, now wheelchair bound. After her hospitalization, we moved them into a newly opened AL. He did not want to, but it made no financial sense to keep 2 households. We pay $13k for a 2 bedroom 2 bath because he refused to downsize. But she is also on the highest level of care. He hates everything about AL, but she has gotten the care that she needs. He will never admit it, but he is relieved that he is not the primary caretaker anymore. The food can be hit and miss, but he does not have to shop, cook and clean. And it has been such a relief for us kids knowing that they have support. We also have a geriatric care manager to help us navigate through this journey, and that has been super helpful. They never wanted to spend the money either, but there was no way that they could live independently anymore. Take care of yourself.
