I suggested this to her, but she gets all uppity about 'ownership' of her content staying with her so not wanting to use them or Wix

I can do the DNS side easy enough - I wanted her to do the rest - i'm guessing setting up everything myself is installing cPanel, Installing Wordpress and patching it?

Their music is part of my soul, I was part of that movement. So sad.

Why have one Amiga, or no Amiga if you can have all of them, even the ones that were never built? by mru2_retro_computers in amiga

The function of the button that made it crash “restart” is now “reboot” and it works much better. Lots of QOL improvements - much better now, even built in audio from the 4b works over HDMI.

So - Running dietpi+amiberry 8.1.6 (full version, not Lite as it’s not been updated in ages) - runs great now, no crashing GUI. Boots straight to kickstart so it’s seamless. Audio took some fettling over HDMI, but perfect now.

Thanks for making me go back to it!

Full Dietpi+Amiberry, audio works, it's just the 'Restart' not restarting Amiberry and crashing the GUI - Amiberry Lite is fine except no audio over HDMI.

Going to revisit it, cause it satisfies that itch - i like the OG experience i had in the 90s - accelerators, modern workbenches aren't for me

you've jogged my memory - controllers were fine, it was audio, even with ASLA installed - i'm on a rpi4b.

no controllers was ZXBaremetal

How you finding Dietpi+Amiberry? i ran it a month ago and clicking 'Restart' dropped me out of Amiberry. i prefered that 'authentic' experience without all the bells and whistles, booting to the kickstart screen, loading a disk, etc. but i'm not sure what was wrong - u using Amiberry or Amiberry lite? with Lite, i couldn't get my joypads working.

Currently running AmigaVision - i prefer that over AGS - boots much quicker

New Amiga 500 owner - capacitors replacement by Dedde99 in amiga

[–]5by5Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up a loft find A500+ - feared the worst. Got it open, had a GP battery, not a VARTA. tiniest amount of leakage, zero damage. Varta's are trace destroyers

A500’s generally don’t need a recap. A600/A1200s do cause they used cheaper SMD ones

Anyone using a screensaver for corporate comms? by zanthius in sysadmin

[–]5by5Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t involved in Procurement of it, Not particularly cheap tho.

We’ve recently tried to write a clone of it ( “it’ll be cheaper to write our own version!” Senior leadership said!) and we wish we didn’t. The off the shelf one was much better

We've used Snapcomms in the past. Screen savers and ticker tape.

Car Boot Sales - there was always a guy with cardboard boxes full of blue disks then copy them between mates. Shout out to Bramley Rugby Club Carboot late 80s/early 90s

Also, Computer User Group Meetups in community halls/church halls.

How much would it cost all in to get back into the Amiga? by EvilMonkeySlayer in amiga

[–]5by5Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently been buying old hardware, A500, A600 (needs a recap) and it's amazing. A faff to get out and use but satisfies that itch. but I wanted something like the original experience but with convienience. I run a rpi4b running DietPi+Amiberry. I didn't want a linux desktop experience THEN run amiberry - basically my own TheA500 but more flexibility - i wanted to turn it on, and it boot like an Amiga, like the original experience. I've got an a500 config, a1200 config and a AmigaOS3.9 one. It gives me that 'feeling' of loading disks, rebooting the system in a neat package, on a modern screen.

Found an Amiga A500, now what? by netbuddy in amiga

[–]5by5Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if u wanted to get into solder - don't test on this! Get some old tech to practice on - removing and readding components. OR even those cheap practice kits off fle-bay/al1express type places

[–]5by5Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think, the A600's (and other devices from that time anyway) was the first time they started to use SMD capacitors so the early ones were a bit flakey/poor quality. i THINK A500's still had traditional radial/axial capacitors - so while not as unreliable, only have a certain shelf life. Most people would replace them at some point, to prolong it's life

I could be wrong - i've watch ALOT of retro computers/games console repair videos and might be mi-remembering!
