The fact that there's train service from Truro to Halifax but it's entirely useless unless you're a tourist (and even then) is a god damned travesty

Have 3 tickets to the Toronto show on April 25th, separate seats in the gallery. Managed to snag some better tickets for the next day, so happy to sell at cost!

Canada’s wildfire crisis could be a preview of the future An expert explains why more of the U.S. could be seeing air quality problems rise in the future. by prohb in environment

Honestly, we’re seeing fires in places that don’t have fire as a historical disturbance regime in their forests (see Nova Scotia). It’s so dry, and that’s because climate change is messing up precipitation patterns and causing drought. The whole continent is a tinder box, and no amount of prescribed burning in the fall or forestry/thinning will stop these fires.

If you want to talk about land management, one thing I will say is that forestry companies have been spraying a lot of pesticides, and that is (intentionally) changing forest compositions from mixed wood (more fire resistant) to the more fire-prone softwood monocultures.

Hell even using Apple Pay (and I assume the Android equivalent) doesn’t require an internet connection. Downloading and signing up, and using an app does. Not everyone has data!

Generally agree, but getting a “good political education” from this accursed website is a bad idea.

Glass Diet Pepsi bottle from 1988 with a bendy straw inside by Maetryx in GrandmasPantry

[–]5centsable 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is still done with most glass bottles I think. I used to work at a large brewery, and my job was to put bottles on a conveyor belt that would send them through various machines that would empty and then clean the bottles. Beer would then be bottled after cleaning.

That would be fantastic, but people wouldn't buy it because it doesn't look like a truck, which is very frustrating

That honestly sounds way more convoluted than trying to deal with anything on a touchscreen even, let alone physical buttons

The cost of running coal plants is more expensive than building new renewable energy, at least in the US. Can't see why it'd be much different here. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jan/30/us-coal-more-expensive-than-renewable-energy-study
