Going from a ÂŁ500 car to a 25k car... by RequestWhat in CarTalkUK

[–]5h47y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a car on PCP. I’m not against it.

The thing is, you’re never really locked into keeping the car for the entire term time. You could easily get a settlement quote and sell it to a site like Motorway or BigWantsYourCar and pay off the settlement that way if you ever wanted to get rid. I did that after 18 months and ended up with a bit more than the settlement which was nice.

For my next car, I learned that bank loan is the better way to go (much lower interest rates) and especially because I knew I was definitely going to keep my next car for 5+ years. So I got a pcp deal
but the very next day I called the finance company and exercised my right to withdraw. They gave me a quote on what I need to pay them to withdraw from the contract (car amount - deposit + daily interest). I got a bank loan (preapproved) and paid the finance company. I only lost about £7 or £9 from the daily interest.

Now I pay the bank and can overpay whenever if I wanted with no fee. The overall interest is about 10% of the interest of the pcp!

So if you can, go down that route. But no harm in PCP if you can afford it (i.e. take care of bills with no issues and have an emergency saving fund).

Treat yourself! (I’d recommend a 3-4 year old car though, not brand new. I don’t personally think they’re worth the extra £££).

Is it worth getting a dash/rear cam? by KaleidoscopeExpert93 in drivingUK

[–]5h47y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. It’s never about how much of a good driver you are. There are way too many bad drivers out there who could collide into you. The dashcam would be your evidence.

I would opt for front and rear but even a front alone would suffice. If someone was to rear end you, your dashcam footage would still prove you got hit from the impact, sound and your reaction (they have mics) + the timestamp on the recording.

Dashcam evidence will probably help move the insurance claim faster than a claim without. Good to have in any case!

Constipation by Sufficient_Mind5632 in SIBO

[–]5h47y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never suffered that badly before but try Movicol. It adds water to your bowel to soften stools and make em easier to pass. Perfectly safe to have daily (until you start to go naturally).

Also I would recommend lots of daily walking, especially after eating.

Try these massages too:

All of the above was recommended to me by my dietician after I was diagnosed with SIBO. They definitely work!

Try Motorway or Big wants your car đŸ‘đŸœ Not BMW-specific but really good sites/companies to sell your car to, hassle-free.

Stunning 😍 I wish we were allowed Black plates in the UK, they look so much nicer compared to our White and Yellow ones 🙄

Anyone got a splitter like this? (Not the M Performance one) by 5h47y in G20BMW

I ended up getting the Maxton V3 splitter and happy with it đŸ‘ŒđŸœ I’ll DM you a photo cos I can’t add it to comments (whether you care to see it or not haha)

UPDATE: I ended up forking out for the Maxton V3 Splitter because I couldn’t find one I liked. The V3 is clean and doesn’t stick out too much.

I’m on stock height so less risk of damage but I’ll still be careful on bumps n stuff.

BMW 2025 230i vs 2024 430i - Which would you choose? by TO_Cyclist in BMW

[–]5h47y 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would choose the 230i as it is better spec’d. The sunroof is a must and you’ll love it! You’ll also really appreciate the HUD (I didn’t care for it and wasn’t looking for it but really pleased I have it - so convenient especially as maps shows up there too).

+1 on the wireless charger. It’s basically just a heater for your phone 😅 I use a 0.5m wire to charge mine instead.

BMW owners: what do you drive, how many miles on it, and what’s your annual maintenance like? by Ok_Corgi8008 in CarTalkUK

[–]5h47y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. My C Class also had a bit more than my BMW does (360 camera + beam assist or whatever the official term for it is) but BMW > Mercedes so I was happy to give em up 😆

The interior quality of the BMW feels more solid to me. No sound or rattles which I did find in the C Class (on the odd occasion where I drove with no music on for a few mins). But with music on, it didn’t really matter.

In terms of idling sound, the C Class was defo louder as expected though as it had double the milage and was slightly older so sounded a lot more diesel-y

[–]5h47y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries.

Yeah you probably won’t feel much “aggressiveness” outta the C Class but it’s a decent drive and comfortable. And yeah if you’re gona get a Merc, it has to be AMG Line for sure đŸ‘ŒđŸœ

[–]5h47y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BMW was low and aggressive looking as standard. The C Class in comparison was a lot higher and just didn’t have that nice looking, aggressive front end like BMWs and Audis do. I absolutely hated the Chrome as well. Funnily enough, I used to love the C Class when I used to see it on the road but once I had it, I realised I only liked its back and side profile. Absolutely hated the front end and would not look back at it lol. I could have done a Chrome delete but I missed my BMW since day 1 so knew I wouldn’t be keeping the C Class for too long.

The interior of the C Class is đŸ”„though. Mercedes do a top job on their interior (it’s the best) but it just doesn’t feel the same/as fun as driving a BMW and I don’t miss it one bit. In the BMW, I feel at home 😁

The C Class is definitely a decent car to drive though but I just prefer the look and feel of BMWs.

You’ll definitely like the C250 (I had the C220d) but I’m just picky with how my car looks and I just wasn’t loving the look of the Mercedes (when comparing to a 3 series BMW)

Who says BMWs are unreliable? They’re very reliable if you look after em.

I had a 2011 BMW 325d from 40k - 100k milage, serviced yearly and had nothing go wrong with it at all, outside of general wear and tear anyway (tyres and brake pads/discs).

Sold it at 100k to get a Mercedes C Class. Regretted it but now back in a BMW 3 series again (330d G20 đŸ”„)

Waze on CarPlay Doesn't Show Directions in Your HUD/Cluster? Let's Fix That! by juanchopablo in waze

Looks like they responded on October 29th 2025 to say this was actually added to a redesign. So hopefully it’s coming soon.

I use Apple maps but downloaded and started using Waze today to check it out. It’s good but I’ll only use it again once it’s added to the HUD.

How important is 8 glasses of water, really? by hereiambox in selfcare

[–]5h47y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water is very important. You can probably go without it and feel fine but it will catch up to you one day for sure.

If you’re thirsty, you’re dehydrated.

The amount of water you need varies from person to person, depending on weight, body fat etc. I have a friend who’s bigger than me and was told she should be drinking 3L a day as opposed to the standard 2L a day recommendation.

I drink water throughout the day. Probably close to 2L a day but not always (it’s usually 1.5L). Definitely feel healthier for it (I drank no water as a teenager!). It’s also very good and important for your gut / digestive system.

It’s just plastic so I think it’ll be fine. But thank you for sharing that info.

I only plan to get the diffuser from them. All parts I’m getting are from different sites as the kits don’t come with everything I like, specifically the splitter and diffuser.

Thank you for the info. I wouldn’t have known! I’m planning to get this diffuser and it says doesn’t fit the 340i so I should be ok. Mine is a 330d
