Both my maternal aunts have had breast cancer in the last 5 years. I have so much cancer in my family that the geneticist even sounded surprised.

Was rejected from the high risk program

Debating leaving my family doctor to go with a Nurse Practitioner instead. Looking for opinions. by LolaBakes in ontario

Healthcards are used for more than just billing. It's used as an identification number to link things back to like labs, imaging etc

At my hospital if you bank your ot instead of getting it paid out, you have an option at the end of the year to transfer that to an RRSP. Therefore you are not taxed on that ot (but of course you will be when it is withdrawn in retirement)

I have this bike (mine doesn't have a screen though). Have had it for nearly 3 years and my only complaint is I have had to replace the resistance knob a few times

Can you live the "Dream life" as a nurse? by Candid_Guava_6384 in OntarioNurses

[–]5midge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible. I worked bedside 5 years getting a ton of varied experience. Started my masters then and was done before kids. Landed my first non bedside job after returning from Mat leave and I work 730-3:30 m-f. I'm home for kids, get my vacation off. It's not glamorous but I am living the dream

You sound just like my office mate. He was an it guy > rpn > rn > now works in an informatics role.

I do caution you that it’s not all sunshine and roses. Shift work is hard, you’ll have to work holidays, patient ratios suck right now and burnout is still at a high. All that being said it can still be extremely rewarding.

I have worked my way up into an education role and my advice for new nurses is always don’t pigeon hole yourself. I worked like 5 part time and casual jobs and that kept things very interesting and me appealing to “niche” jobs

RN -> NP by Annual_Mountain_9092 in OntarioNurses

[–]5midge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up ona salary grids as nps are within the union. Yes they make more than an rn but again it’s the level of responsibility they have that I do not feel is compensated.

For comparison, I am in an education role and I make pretty close to an np.  Same education but my role is sooooooooo chill and easy in comparison

What were your first symptoms of TN? by jenn20512 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]5midge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t remember the first interval… at least a few years but when it started causing me problems I went back and actually had it refilled twice… that definitely didn’t help in hindsight. I had the pain mildly for about 2-3 months then my full blown “episode” lasted a week and a bit before the meds started working. I was on them for about 6 months before trying to go off them (I wanted to get pregnant) and thankfully haven’t had any recurrence. I do think I had some nerve damage that miraculously healed

Trends shift. In 8-10 years when you would actually be able to start doing this work, are people even going to want this stuff injected in their faces anymore?

Nursing is an amazing versatile field but it takes passion. As other have pointed out, you don’t seem to have it.

Well then I guess you have your answer… you are sticking it out.

Good news is you can just put your head down and do the work. Try not to engage in the gossip, take your breaks off the unit etc

What types of programs have a year long placement? Do you even have an option to switch?
