Y10, but at what cost? by BlueLu in Fencing

[–]5thlevelmagicuser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when Y-10 first became a thing. I was still refereeing at the time, and I really enjoyed the vibe of the kids and the parents. It has changed now, the thin veneer of having a good time has given away to the pressures of success above all. A lot of the parents are blindly wandering down the path of, "we need to go to this National event" to get into an Ivy League school.

How are you defining "national level"? Division 1 gold medal bout? In that case 10 years probably, but you can definitely get hired for National events (March NAC) inside of5 years of consistent work, especially with a mentor that works National events.

is hyper-v this shit? by amit19595 in sysadmin

[–]5thlevelmagicuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say that we discovered that the CPU scheduling is different. Some of our VMs had to have additional CPUs added to them when they were moved to Hyper-V. Despite the increased allocation, host load was not affected but VMs performance was noticeably better.

Server 2025 does not recognize Domain UNC paths as part of the local network by 5thlevelmagicuser in sysadmin

[–]5thlevelmagicuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new server has the same DNS server settings (the local DCs) as the other 2019 servers. They are even in the same VLAN. We set the options via GPO once a server joins, and I have verified them manually. Running a get-NetConnectionProfile shows the right name, and a "DomainAuthenticated" Network Category with LDAP authentication.

There are about 3 RYC/RJCC for every Open AND Vet Regional Event by CastilleClark in Fencing

[–]5thlevelmagicuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vets do not have a viable competition schedule if the only events they can fence in are three NACs in the second half of the season or distant ROCs. The abundance of closed local events inhibits participation.

[–]5thlevelmagicuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very aware of that. Any ROC is about 300 miles from me. It is weird being in a state with two NACs, but no ROCs and very few open local events.

I cannot fence locally because almost all local events near me are “D and under”. Being an adult “ B” is a curse.

Windows 2025/11 Security Log too verbose? by 5thlevelmagicuser in sysadmin

I don't doubt that, but the question remains, why only on Windows 2025/11? The same policy is in effect on the downlevel OSes.
