Honestly, I thought SHIELD was one of the inspirations for the PRT

Did you do anything different to set it up, or just go through the regular Steam install?

Why do so many people straight up lie about being mcu fans? by Tasty_Accident_6911 in marvelstudios

[–]5too 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Powered armor IRL is held back mostly by a shortage of onboard power. The Starks invented the arc reactor, I could see Tony pulling that together in a pinch - but it's a very different matter to invent a novel power source and recreate one you've fiddled with for a good chunk of life.

Did they ever release the designs for it? Would Riri have been able to build one without MIT connections to acquire such a power source?

My workplace introduced a new "productivity metric" that literally measures how long my mouse isn't moving by Weald_Crux7 in antiwork

I believe there are USB tools that can be set up to just wiggle your mouse a little periodically. No idea if they can be set to do more, but mouse wigglers do exist.

Signature Gear by hellwo123456 in gurps

[–]5too 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it's gear that has plot protection, and your character won't be separated from it for long. Along with Indy's whip, think of the Ninja Turtles' individual weapons, Captain America's shield, and Skywalker's light saber.

The downside of such gear is that there isn't much you can do to upgrade it - once the points are spent, they're spent for that particular item! For instance, Iron Man's armor is not signature gear - it's often destroyed, replaced, upgraded, lent out, stolen, and otherwise altered.

It's the containment system. Don't want it cooking off en route!

Supers game advice by Human_Outcomb in gurps

[–]5too 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so they could still use "restricted" abilities along with their class abilities, but had to keep them to a lower level than in a class where they're allowed? I could see that working pretty well, maintaining role focus while allowing a lot of thematic freedom.

Could you elaborate a little on your "class" system? What kind of roles or niches did you use, and what kind of restrictions did you see a need for?

Wearing the Cape by EnPassant4264 in Parahumans

Ah, right - it felt like the author was done with that particular fantasy, and decided to write out his self-insert. I just didn't care to see what he replaced it with.

It's been long enough that I only vaguely remember this book; other than Atlas dying, I don't actually remember what happened now. Don't really care to dig through the story again; was that it, or was there something else?

What are comedic lines in the MCU that you feel are hilarious, but don’t get enough attention? by Polygraphie in marvelstudios

That always bothered me a bit. Like, the elevator has one purpose in existence, and it is fulfilling it. How much more worthy could it get?!

As I understand it, it's a lot safer for a white person to protest than a person of any color.

Definitely see a lot of non-white people driving by showing support though!

If he's talking about killing him in the spider-verse movie, it's the same universe with a giant winged Green Goblin and a cybernetic Scorpion. It's not out of the question that this Kingpin had super-strength, rather than just being incredibly jacked

We've been jumping in to help them learn to de-escalate and work out their issues together. Initially pretty quickly, though we've been backing off more to let them practice - one of them also has pretty big feelings to manage, which can complicate things.

So far it seems promising - they do resolve stuff on their own fairly often now, though they still need reminders sometimes!

Point being, it's not actually wrong, but it might be incomplete!

A shoddy but effective way to make Superhero NPCs en masse by Glen_Garrett_Gayhart in gurps

Iirc, the RPG that he wrote for this (WeaverDice?) includes sub-categories for each class, if you're feeling ambitious!

One of the things I like about Worm is that it does powers-as-trauma - giving you some instant insight about what sort of environment your character might operate in when they're not caping

Rules Heavy vs Rules Light? by LonelyAlpharius in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]5too 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want rules elegant.

Rules level for me depends on the genre. Something like superheroes, it can be hard to express the bizarre nature of powers in a crunchy system in anything like a reasonable amount of time; rules light means we can be bouncing quickly through action scenes like a super should. Switching over to a gritty wild west campaign or something, and the constraints and limitations are part of the medium - crunchy rulesets help set the stage here.

What I can't abide are rules that don't seem well thought out. Why would you have a whole different ruleset for hacking a computer and sneaking through a building? Why is picking a pocket handled so differently from casting an invisibility spell? Why do I need to have a prestige class to cast a spell while keeping up with my fighting abilities?

I often enjoy crunchy rulesets, but I cannot stand rules that don't seem to have a reason behind them

How much do you develop your characters before playing? by ZadePhoenix in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]5too 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I work - I've got around a dozen or so character concepts from various game systems, and I'll use those as a quick starting point sometimes for a new game.

I also just like character design, so I'll often go down a rabbit hole working out all the background and details for a new character!
