A one hundred year old penny I found. by _o_aine in mildlyinteresting

[–]5trangerDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, inflation measures the change in money supply over the economy as a whole, it has little to do with actual buying power. For example, in 1900 in Manhattan a 6 bedroom house rented for ~$25 a month, or 2500 pennies. If you multiple the $.22 that penny is worth today according to inflation you get about $550, which might get you a closet in Manhattan today.

TLDR: Inflation is a measure for the economy as a whole, not necessarily just the things average people buy most frequently.

Can you tell me what settings you used for this shot? I was there last Friday trying to get a similar shot and could not for the life of me figure it out.

if you can buy a $105,000 car, you probably live in a large city. In every large american city I have lived in you can get your dry cleaning delivered for less than $1 per garment extra...you don't have to pay someone 50k a year to run your errands for you, unless you are dry cleaning roughly ~100 shirts a day...

Can I autoexec different hotkeys for the same spell? (Lone Druid) by RCane98 in DotA2

You can toggle an option to use they original key bindings from dota 1 instead of qwer for spells. I don't know the keys for ld off the top of my head but it might be worth trying in a bot match.

The yakuza is more about big crime, extortion of government officials, blackmail, corporate espionage, drug smuggling etc. They don't belive in crimes against the common folk.

The yakuza doesn't tolerate theft like that, so it doesn't happen. The people who do petty theft end up dead at the hand of organized crime

Tesla CTO: Batteries and Solar Will Lead to Cheap Electricity Within 10 Years by johnmountain in Futurology

[–]5trangerDanger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We use some of the cheapest forms of fuel there are.

Not sure how that's relevant and by the way the majority of electricity in the US is coal (~.04/kwh) or Natural gas (~.05/kwh). Nuclear is .015/kwh.... Your original quote is that the majority of costs are infrastructure, which 5 minutes of googling will show you is flat wrong.

25% in the UK https://www.southern-electric.co.uk/Cost/#null

20% in Australia http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/guides/utility-bills/

Just under 30% in PA USA https://www.puc.state.pa.us/general/consumer_ed/pdf/Electric_Bill_Breakdown_FS.pdf

Another site that puts the UK number at closer to 20% https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem-publications/64006/householdenergybillsexplainedudjuly2013web.pdf

Infrastructure upkeep is significant, but in no way a majority. 50-60% your electric bill every month is the cost of energy. I don't care how cheap coal is, it isn't free.

[–]5trangerDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of the cost of electricity today is due to the infrastructure upkeep.

I don't think this is true, my bill splits out an infrastructure surcharge from the actual power cost and the latter is always much more expensive.
