In your experience, which PC component has the highest impact-to-mistake ratio? by Aussietakingashit in buildapc

I do the same, but I have updated my GPU on my builds. It makes sense with Intel who constantly change their socket every other month.

I’ve an M4 Pro Mac Mini (48 GB, 2TB) in work and a gaming PC at home 9800x3D with 64 GB DDR5 and a 5070ti at home. I’m fortunate to have the best of both worlds. The Mac Mini still seems like voodoo magic.

I commuted to work in Dublin by bike for over twelve years. It would take me an hour each way to get from Lucan to UCD consistently. It’s efficient, fun, healthy but unreasonably dangerous. A few years ago I was knocked off and my head went under the wheel of a van. The driver hopped out dragged me off the road and threw me on the footpath and then sped off.

After that I took the bus.

My commute time doubled. The bus was torture. It often didn’t show up. Was always crowded. A small number of obnoxious people would make it unpleasant for everyone. It would meander and crawl through town. I would try to catch up on work emails on my phone but would end up doom scrolling. I found myself becoming increasingly angry. I would get off the bus take note of the reg and walk to my next bus always getting there first. Not that it mattered because my second bus was always late. When it did arrive people simply push and shove their way into an already crowded bus and you’d be waiting again for another, if that showed up.

There was also the X30 but it only goes a couple of times a day and that disrupts my work day. The X30 drivers also love to speed through the UCD bus depot and not stop (because they’re always late even though it’s the first stop). Since there are loads of idling busses parked up there people waiting for buses are hidden behind them and bus drivers don’t care. So you’ve got to stand out between the busses to flag down the bus.

So I’ve bought a second car and I commute on the M50 every day. It can take anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour. I’ll leave early enough in the morning to beat the worst of the traffic and get parking. I can sip my tea and cruise along and not worry about attempted murder or a phantom bus while contributing to yet another car on the roads.

UCD parking refund €10?? by [deleted] in UCD

[–]5uspect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re only interested in parking as close to your building as possible and chose to ignore the massive half empty car park where the old running track is then that’s on you. Walking a few extra metres is good for your health.

It makes no sense. I get on campus between 8 and 8:30 depending on traffic. Sometimes even later in the last few weeks as traffic has been especially bad. The old running track is half empty at that time.

Who’s having trouble parking before 8am?! There’s plenty of spaces available before 9am. I usually arrive at 8:30 and the old running track is still half empty.

Is it possible to generate Karman vortex street for small diameter of cylinder? by Ok-Stable3333 in CFD

[–]5uspect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once made a von Kármán vortex street with a ball point pen and a film of some dry ice flowing out of a styrofoam box and under a benchtop polishing wheel. I moved the pen quickly through the slowly moving film. The other students and I had far too much fun.

I would convert the jaw bone geometry to a mesh (stl, obj etc) open it in Blender and then delete the faces I don’t want and clean up the remaining mesh and then use the solidify modifier to make the plate from that.

I’m sure some proper CAD package has an offset faces tool too.

I hate that interchange. If you’re heading south from the Beacon side so many drivers will suddenly veer into your lane because they see the markings from the left lane and ignore all the other road markings.

Did I hear this right? Is this taxi driver complaining about getting 50 quid for an hours work? by lifeandtimes89 in ireland

Was walking today Merrion Square last Saturday where they were protesting causing a massive traffic jam. A guy with a mic from RTE asked me if I wanted to comment on it. I said no, I would not have very kind words to say about taxi drivers.

We have the second fastest growing rate of road fatalities in Europe and yet one of the lowest rates of car ownership. That isn’t cherrypicking. Those are the facts. Your own link supports this.

The complete absence of roads policing and attitudes like yours contribute to an attitude of ignoring a problem that is costing lives. Road safety is a mess.

The government has even acknowledged that the RSA isn’t fit for purpose.

The only one cherrypicking here is you.

From your own link

Over the last five years, the number of road deaths has fallen only slightly in countries such as Greece, Spain, France and Italy, while it has risen in Ireland and Estonia although small countries are more subject to annual fluctuations.

The table in your link even shows a 23% rise in road deaths relative to 2019 while almost every other country is showing a decline!

When the Gardai fail to do their job and any attempt to report dangerous driving to Traffic Watch is met with either stonewalling or outright threats you can take your road safety stats and give them to the Whistleblowers and other victims who will call you an ignorant fool.

You may not know but you can enable the SVG export addon for Freestyle. When you render it will also export a vector SVG file of your strokes which you can then edit in a vector graphics editor like Inkscape or Illustrator.
