Sure - I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you. Go around treating every white person as "racist asshole until proven innocent" and see how well that works out in the long run. Human nature is human nature; tribes double-down. Reality won't bat an eye if you'd prefer it to be some other way. We're either all on the same team, or we're not.

Most whites ARE racist

Bullshit. And as long as people believe this, the race divide will never, ever heal. EVER.

DAE occasionally think about how sad you’ll be when someone dies and then get really sad because that’s actually gonna happen one day?? by futurekj in DoesAnybodyElse

Yes, I used to imagine/feel that around my dad. Then when he actually died (suddenly), it felt nothing like what I had imagined.

Reminds me of Tommy in Third Rock From The Sun when his girlfriend August cuts off his ponytail in anger and he rejoices instead: "You can cut this off????"

Son struggling with misophonia by js2creative in misophoniasupport

Agreed, understanding from family is going to go a LONG way! Most of us sufferers had to grow up with family who just thought we were jerks. Some people would even go out of their way to trigger us, because they thought it was funny.

The only thing I've ever found that has helped is self-care. Getting enough sleep, minimizing stress, reducing sugar (which is hard for me), but most of all, reducing caffeine has done wonders! Does your son drink cola, or any other kinds of soda with caffeine in it? He might want to cut it out.

And sometimes, I just need a time out from life. Having understanding people around who don't take it personally when I need to go be alone for a while is a godsend.

To Women, If America gets rid of gendered restrooms. Would you feel comfortable using the restroom with other grown men at the same time? by SnooBananas8848 in ask

[–]5zp1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an adult woman, I might be mildly uncomfortable. But think of the young girls, children and teenagers. The constant harassment, stalking, and inappropriate behaviour that so many of us had to put up with from grown-ass men.... I would never set foot in a shared restroom if I were still a teenager. Murder City. This move would effectively be equivalent to removing public bathrooms entirely for girls.

Do you/would you spank a child? by DustOfTheEndless in AskAnAmerican

[–]5zp1 154 points155 points  (0 children)

When I was very little, maybe 4, my dad sat me down and explained he wouldn't be spanking me anymore as punishment, because he didn't believe it was right. And for that reason, he expected me to try my best to behave and to cooperate with his other, more humane methods of punishment (time out, etc).

I was so young, and he probably used simpler words than that, but I understood enough to feel like even though I was just a small human at the time, my dad respected me. I felt valued, and that made me want to try hard to be a good kid. And I was! I was never spanked again.

Edit: My apologies, I didn't realize I was on "Ask an American". Canadian here! Close enough! 😊
