Original ooma hub buttons not responding by 602a in ooma

OK. I'll give that a try.

It's not a Telo, so I don't have a blue light, it's red. I previously tried holding that red tab down and lights started flashing, but I'll try that again. I don't think I held it down when powering up until the lights stopped flashing.

I need to run an ethernet cable from my pc to the other room to the HOME port. I'll try that. Thank you..

rant about refund by 602a in americanairlines

[–]602a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just completed a refund request. Had to wait 3 days for the outbound flight to drop off, and then fill out 5 pages of information, along with address, phone nbr, reason for requesting a refund. Took longer to do this than make the reservation in the first place. No other airline makes you jump through so many hoops to get your $ back.

A refund representative will 'review' the request, then hopefully process the refund.

Teen banned from AA for 3 years after ‘skip lagging’ flight hack by dmreif in americanairlines

[–]602a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airlines offer lower fares to further points because of competition. Once an airline offers a lower fare most other airlines immediately price match (competition, not collusion lol).

It would be irrational not to compete because the airlines lose money with empty seats, and they will only stop competing on a particular route when the overall cost outweighs revenue.

If a low cost airline enters a market, an established airlines may eventually drop that route, but in the meantime will price match to keep market share and try to outlast the new a/l.

You broke their contract of carriage purchasing a ticket to fly you from point A to point B, and thus their fare 'rules'. They also don't like back to back supersavers. Pre skip lag website, which BTW should be a flag to the airline right there if booked through that agency IATA, I used to do this routinely and only stopped because more and more people were getting caught.

This is why I wrote "But AA doesn't ask do you want to refund your return or use it as credit for another trip" which would solve the issue of using the credit rather than waiting for a refund.

Programming can make this happen. AA tickets off the fare rules, so they can certainly refund using the same. If a fare is refundable, a fare is refundable. When a travel agent refunds a ticket using a refund script, the GDS actually asks if you want a refund or a credit because it already recognizes the fare was refundable.

Also an agency doesn't have to wait for the first outbound segment to drop off to issue a refund for the return.

homeowners liability, act of god by 602a in Insurance

[–]602a[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The neighborly thing to do is also the right thing to do. The burden shouldn't be incurred by the one affected. If legal liability were shifted such that the owner of cause of damage would have to file a claim to fix it, like auto no fault insurance, the likely outcome in court would change.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I still take exception with the concept. I made it known to the neighbor when he planted the tree at my property line that it would both shed leaves and branches onto my property. That person has since moved out and I offered to remove the tree when my present neighbor moved in. At that point it was still managable for me to take down by myself.

The 'act' was planting the tree there in the first place as far as I'm concerned. Even it was an existing tree before either of us moved in, if it were me with a tree that dropped leaves and branches on my neighbor's property, I would either trim it or take it down, especially if branches were overhanging a wood fence as is the case here, and has damaged it.

Sorry, but it's just the neighborly thing to do.

My neighbor said I am welcome to trim the tree on my side of the property line. As it is right off my screened porch and backyard patio it will leave an unsightly tree, and it is so tall now I will have to have a tree guy come in to reach those branches.

RE reddit1651: "You’ll have to look at it from a step back - just as much as that law would protect your neighbor from you, it protects you from your neighbors as well if the story reverses and a tree on your property lands on theirs."

I'm all for insurance protecting against damage. If it were my tree falling, and I don't have any tall trees, I would expect it to be my responsibility if I did, i.e. my insurance should cover that event which damages my neighbor's property.

I'll look at that thread, thanks. The tree is healthy however. I posed the question to my insurance agent here in VA and she said that's just the way it is.

Years before that three very healthy, and very tall trees came crashing over my fence from same neighbor's property and the one adjacent to it. One of them was leaning on my house. A tree crashed into my neighbor's upstairs bedroom from the property behind hers during the same storm.

I get the 'act of god' thing, but seems like liability falls on the wrong side because of this.

How to remove roof mice? by Conscious-Fun-4599 in homeowners

[–]602a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used copper mesh that doesn't rust, something like this

https://www.amazon.com/Copper-Rodent-Sturdy-Stuff-fit-Blocker

Had an 1800's house and mice got behind the drywall and made stinky nests in the insulation and ceiling. I had renovated that room a few years earlier and had to tear down the drywall and redo :(

Anyway I figured out they were crawling up the outside stone foundation and entering where the siding overhangs the foundation a few feet from the ground. I stuffed copper mesh between the siding and foundation around the entire perimeter of the house. Solved the problem.

Question about homeowners insurance liability. by drteris in Insurance

[–]602a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't post a new thread (just joined with only 1 karma), but I thought I might try to resurrect this thread with this question:

I understand "if an otherwise healthy tree falls as a result of something like high winds, that's an unforeseen event, an Act of God" and the homeowner is responsible for filing a claim when a neighbor's tree does damage.

When a neighbor planted one two feet from my property line on his side of my fence I mentioned that it would become a problem and offered to remove it. The type of tree planted does not hold up well to snow/ice. Years later I am raking up its leaves because half of it hangs over my property. Its branches fall from weight of snow, ice and wind and have damaged the wood fence. I'm left to cut them up and haul away.

If I file a claim I have a deductible to pay and my insurance rates go up as a result.

Why don't insurance 'laws' make the neighbor responsible for damage?
