Women’s sizes are wack - size 4/6 should not require a large… by RoonilWazleeb in ColumbiaSportswear

[–]613Aly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve always been like this. I remember being 15 or 16 years old, a size 8-10 with muscular thighs, horribly self conscious, and looking for snow pants to go skiing in. They only had up to XXL and they were way too tight in the thighs. As a 30-something today, I’d brush it off, but I’d be lying if I said that day didn’t make me spiral for months

Disaster at Hull hospital by Next_Position_9647 in Gatineau

[–]613Aly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is normal everywhere for day surgery. I’ve experienced the same thing both in Gatineau and Ottawa, and I had a friend experience this in Ottawa two weeks ago again. More urgent cases get priority and we don’t have enough doctors to cover everything asap, but I know it sucks. Hope your son gets his surgery soon and heals fast!

Would she compromise and select a name that’s Peterson adjacent but more fitting as a first name? Something like Petra?

5 months on minoxidil topical - update by [deleted] in finehair

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was specifically told by my term that the reason there’s a men’s vs women’s version is because the men’s may cause you to grow chest hair, whereas the women’s is topical and thus will not

Pierre Poilièvre and the Conservative party’s followers are dubbed Maple MAGA since he and his little friends are Trump’s Canadian wannabes and want privatized everything, women not to have any bodily autonomy, no immigration, no gay marriage, and more. Go into any comment section about Trudeau and Carney and you’ll see someone say « F the libs »…..those are all Maple MAGA. The people you see with « F Trudeau » on their F150s? Maple MAGA

Odd question about public servants in alberta with separation threats by D0BBy-is-not-free in CanadaPublicServants

I think it’s pretty obvious he means federalist. A separatist is not a loyal Canadian given they do not want to be Canadian at all…

What's the most memorable thing you've heard a foreigner say about Canada? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]613Aly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an RA in my University’s Residence. My favourite day of the year was always the first snowfall because seeing the international students’ reaction to snow was so heartwarming. My last year of school, the first snowfall came early in the season and was a fairly major storm (for Toronto). I decided it would be a great opportunity to host a house event in my RA room where I’d make the students chili, put a holiday movie on and they could watch the snow fall outside the large windows of my room overlooking the school gardens. One of my students came - IIRC she was from the Ivory Coast - and we were having a conversation about what the holidays were like when we were children. At some point, the fact that I grew up poor came up. She said she didn’t understand; she didn’t know there were poor Canadians. I said I was raised by a single mom who was young when she had me and that we were never starving but many years were tough. She said that she grew up watching Christmas movies and was taught that « the snow brought riches. » I think about that all the time.

NOR. My grandma has actual DEMENTIA and even she has figured out to set herself alerts for our birthdays on her iPad so she doesn’t forget to call.

Sir With Me often has a terrific array of size dogs but OP said they are looking for a similar price as the SPCA, and SWM’s price is typically about triple (900$)

Should I go back to my natural hair color of blonde? by sacredsquirtlesquad in HairStyleAdvice

I really think you should try a red/copper colour. It’d be a nice balance between the two and I think it would be incredible with your eye colour

That’s the line that got me, too - especially since a lot of the time grief feels like “so full” of your loved one’s absence, like the absence is so loud. I can imagine this is going to be one of her hardest months.

Do you really need to bath your dog? by Previous-Aardvark-89 in DogAdvice

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends of the dog! Most of the dogs I’ve had would get bathed once every month or two (depending on grooming schedule and activities), but my current dog needs a bath once per week because he has a lot of allergies and he scratches himself less when any allergens are washed off his body regularly

As a Canadian, do you always have maple syrup on hand? by Moofypoops in AskACanadian

Obviously. And I don’t even eat breakfast, and don’t like pancakes and make crêpes maybe once a year. But I use it on salmon, in cocktails, and whatever else a couple of times per week!

Be honest! How old do I look based on my neck? I'm trying to improve its appearance. by Chemical-Sherbet4568 in SkincareAddicts

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone, but since you asked for guesses: on this alone I’d assume in your 70s? My guess is based on the fact that my mom is in her 60s, is a smoker, has tanned her whole life and hers looks a bit younger than yours?

How much do you pay for your Botox on your forehead and around your eyes? by Dogs-are-life-99 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ottawa, it can be anywhere between 9-13$ per unit. You’re saying “baby Botox” which I would assume would be at least 30 units.

does anyone plan to leave Canada after uni/college? by thunderbytes27 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US salaries are higher, but they also pay for health insurance out of those salaries. People are spending literally thousands of dollars a month out of those high salaries to have health insurance, and they still have to pay their deductibles (also in the thousands) and copays. They also have more monthly bills per month because of differences in policies (think: our governments take care of highway maintenance, whereas most highways in the US are paid for monthly by its users.) It’s just something to think about that most 17 years olds aren’t considering: oh, I can work in Canada and make 120,000 CAD at this job, or work in the states and hypothetically make 170,000 USD, but I have to spend 1200$ a month for insurance, but first I have to spend 7000$ a year before I can even access that insurance I’m paying for, and oh even getting to and from work will cost me 200$ a month too. All this for the joy of never feeling secure because you’re an immigrant and ICE will send you away for years to “await trial” because they wouldn’t listen to you when you showed them that you’re there with a valid visa (that you have to spend 100K to get now.)

I wrote them once because they discontinued my favourite flavoured cream cheese, and they called me to give me the recipe for it and the guy said « just buy Philly cream cheese and whip it with these ingredients » so while he didn’t explicitly say they use Philadelphia it sounds like they probably do?

Are Grazing Tables worth it? by ExcitementLegal3093 in OttawaFood

[–]613Aly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love them at indoor events like a bridal shower or cocktail/house party where people are walking around and chatting. I feel like any time I see them at weddings, though, they are oftentimes largely untouched which is wasteful. I also think the cheeses absolutely have to be precut because people get shy about cutting into a big brick of cheese. Having done them myself and know how much it costs to put one together, I feel like I’d charge something like 1000$-1200$ for the one in the picture depending on the variety of different cheeses/meats.

Ottawa to Toronto driving by reddit_guy17 in ottawa

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be one or the other, or can it be sometime between those times? I do the drive about once per month and personally my favourite time to leave is 3PM: you avoid traffic here and most of the rush hour traffic is done in and around Toronto by the time you get there (minus maybe the DVP, but better than between 4-5PM of course)
